Jathedar Sukhdev Singh Ji Babbar was a very special Gursikh with many admirable qualities. During Vaisakhi 1978, when the Indian Government sponsored "Nirankaris" were parading around Amritsar, hurling abuse at our Gurus, Sahibzaadai and Panj Pyarai, Bhai Fauja Singh collated together a group of Gursikhs to protest at the insults. At the same time, Bhai Sukhdev Singh Ji was getting married. When Bhai Sukhdev Singh Ji heard about the martyrdom of his close friend Bhai Fauja Singh Ji, he called a meeting of Gursikhs who decided that they had no alternative but to defend the Khalsa Panth against these increasing attacks by using arms. Jathedar Sukhdev Singh Babbar was a…

Evolving trends in pre-nineteenth century Sikh Historiography. The primary sphere of reverence, in Sikh academia, is the Adi Guru Granth Sahib Ji with second and tertiary accompaniments being the Dasam Granth and the compositions of Bhai Nand Lal. The latter are noteworthy in many respects. They establish a timeless connection between the reader and writer across several milieus, yet offer only tantalizing glimpses into the lives of the Gurus.' Fluidly focusing upon the Gurus' message, the aforementioned texts lack a cohesive narrative detailing who they where. To ameliorate just such a situation the Sikhs, as a whole, had to parent several distinct genres of literature…

WAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA WAHEGURU JI KI FATEH A banker taking large offerings went to visit Sri Guru Amar Das Ji Maharaj. The offerings included a necklace of pearls and precious stones. He wanted to put it on Sri Guru Amar Das Ji Maharaj, but Guru Ji said he was too old for such ornaments. The banker might put it on him who was the Guru's image, and who was dearer to him than life, and then the banker's wishes would be gratified. The banker replied that Guru Ji might put it on whomsoever he pleased. The Sikhs began to conjecture whom the Guru could have meant. Some said Mohri, others Mohan—sons of the Guru— and others again thought of other faithful and obedient Sikhs. The…

Vaahiguroo Jee Kaa Khaalsa! Vaahiguroo Jee Kee Fathe!! Sangat Jee, With the current situation in Punjab, I think its essential for our youth to read and have an insight into the written words of our older Veers who fought and continue to fight against Indian hegemony in Punjab. These Soormey enshrined Gurmat in their hearts and lived on principles of sacrifice, dhrirrtha, ankh and piaar. We, as the youth, must learn from them and their endeavors to continue on the struggle. So a benti to all Sangat to share the written works (letters, poems etc) of our Soormey. Babbar Jagtar Singh Hawara poem: http://www.unp.co.in/attachments/f46/2481d1186034564-hawara-te-balwant-sin…

I found this on a Christian website. Waheguru waheguru waheguru waheguru waheguru waheguru waheguru. It's cool "I will wish that when I die, I take with me the love of my friends; The respect of my enemies; The smile of the man I could have beaten down, but chose not to; And the gratitude of he who I helped back upon his feet. May my life have caused more smiles then tears; More assurances then fears. Give me the strength to be graceful, and the grace to be strong. Grant me the sense to know when to hold my ground, and when to realize the battle is not mine. Please keep my actions more Godlike then manlike. Please forgive me when I fail, and remind me to forgive the fai…

Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh In his next audience with Aurangzeb, Raja Jai Singh again explained in a very polite and diplomatic language the inability of the Guru to come to the court. Aurangzeb, however, asked one of the Princes, said to be Prince Azam, to meet the Guru and report to him the real reason of the inability of Bala Pir (Guru Har Krishan) to present himself in the court. He asked the Prince to take a basket full of gifts for the Child prophet. Aurangzeb placed a rosary, an emblem of poverty and holiness, beneath all articles. If the Bala-Pir picked up the rosary, he should be considered a gifted saint. If he failed to do so then he was without…
