this is a very different post and many of you may thinks its cheeky Basically i'm applying for primary teaching at uni and have recieved two interviews. Just reading through the posts on this board, watching the sikh TV channels and reading what is happening in punjab, leads me to the conclusion that at a higher level, our community is set for destruction, largely through our own stupidity. Sikhs are our own worst enemies. If you look at other communities, people are getting on to progress themselves. Ours? Becoming more intolerant, militant, discriminatory even with each other. It is ironic that a lot of our community believe that demonstrating in gurdwaras, whipping out kirpans at any opportunity, enjoying any excuse to rebel, is something positive. Its not. WJKK WJKF Sangat ji, I need your help. It been eight months since I have been blessed with amrit. Everything was going just great until a few months ago. For some reason my Sikhi has started to go down and I don't know why. I still do simran, go to the gurdwara daily, listen to kirtan regularly, and do my nitnem but I just can't concentrate. WJKK WJKF I have been wondering lately that there are millions of people on this earth that don't follow Sikhism and many people don't know a thing about sikhism. My question is what does sikhi say about people who don't follow sikhism? I know we believe all religions are equal and we should respect each others religions. But in Sikhi, we try to be one with vahiguru and jap his name and gain mukti and "chutkara" from reincarnation, so what happens to the other millions of people on the earth, none of them get mukti? What does SGGS and the Guru's say about them and this? Bhul Chuk Maaf.

Leaving aside Guru ji, the general question of taking afeem (opium) in limited quantities for war/medical wounds is simply unproblematic. When you go to the hospital, they give you morphine. What do you think morphine is? It's an opiate. Even codeine (cough syrup) is an opiate! Ever had a cough? Granted, it is against Gurmat to take opium or other drugs for the fun of it. -
Yeah, that's one possibility. Another I initially thought is that it's a Muslim trying to gather info. But then, you might ask, how does he know about Sikh textual sources. Well, you'd be surprised at their resourcefulness. A final possibility is he's a weak Sikh who was asked a question by a non-Sikh and now he's suddenly feverishly wondering where it's "written" that you can't marry a young child. To the latter, I would say, you're looking in the wrong spot. Gurbani isn't a 1428 page rulebook, like Leviticus or the Vedas: ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਪੁੰਨ ਪਾਪ ਬੀਚਾਰਦੇ ਤਤੈ ਸਾਰ ਨ ਜਾਣੀ ॥ ਤਤੈ ਸਾਰ ਨ ਜਾਣੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਬਾਝਹੁ ਤਤੈ ਸਾਰ ਨ ਜਾਣੀ ॥ The Simritis and Shastras discriminate between charity and sin, but know not the essence of the Real Thing. back then was waaaay different. ppl didn’t attend higher education or have much to do after the age of like… 13, lol. you’d have 13 year olds boys and girls that know how to do kethi, cook entire meals, etc nowadays even 22 year olds are extremely immature and can be sheltered. the average person doesn’t know how to do anything except their 9-5 which they are probably half arsing as well.
