Sangat ji,

I need your help. It been eight months since I have been blessed with amrit. Everything was going just great until a few months ago. For some reason my Sikhi has started to go down and I don't know why. I still do simran, go to the gurdwara daily, listen to kirtan regularly, and do my nitnem but I just can't concentrate. It's like my mind just doesn't want me to concentrate on SIkhi. Maybe my Sikhi's going down because I'm with sangat less these days because of school and work. Also, I have started to get angry very easily these days and I'm having a really hard time controlling it. I have done ardas many times but it has not gotten any better. I'm just wondering if anyone has gone through the same thing that I'm going through and if so, what did you do to fix it.

singh...it happens to the best of us..

the important thing is to keep plugging away..keep doing ardaas.. you're nothing! you aren't going to accomplish anything in life unless you ask Guruji to help you.. so ask him to help you.

i've been there... heck, maybe i'm still there i can't entirely tell... but as long as you learn from it, then these "down times" can be very beneficial too....to help us learn about things from a bit of a different perspective.

if any one baani really catches your mind...jus keep doing it over again..like for me, for example, i love love love love anand sahib... some of the poetry and the meanings are jus beautiful to me.....sometimes i'll do anand sahib 5 times in a day, jus cuz... it's the one paath i can kinda connect with when i'm down... and it helps... it's all about rebuilding the connection, and trying to keep it strong...

some people will offer advice on jus doing as much paath as you possibly can... and that's excellent advice for alot of people..but i know for me..sometimes just "doing as much" as i can doesn't help me feel the building of a connection, as when i concentrate on one particular baani, and take as much outta that as i possibly can and then work from there.....

but that's just my input singh.. don't get TOO down about it..it does happen to almost all of us, where we get into a sikhi rut..sometimes it's hard to get outta it... but no matter how many times you've done ardaas, it's not enough, clearly! so keep doing! and keep putting faith in guruji!

you'll be fine :)

Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa!

Waheguroo jee kee Fateh!

I totally agree with Japman, it does happen to all of us at one time or another, I find in addition to ardaas, sometimes go back and reflect on the reason you took amrit in the first place, like your favorite bani and look a little bit deeper to rekindle the light.

I know that it might be difficult, but Waheguroo will help you in the end.

    • yeh it's true, we shouldn't be lazy and need to learn jhatka shikaar. It doesn't help some of grew up in surrounding areas like Slough and Southall where everyone thought it was super bad for amrit dharis to eat meat, and they were following Sant babas and jathas, and instead the Singhs should have been normalising jhatka just like the recent world war soldiers did. We are trying to rectifiy this and khalsa should learn jhatka.  But I am just writing about bhog for those that are still learning rehit. As I explained, there are all these negative influences in the panth that talk against rehit, but this shouldn't deter us from taking khanda pahul, no matter what level of rehit we are!
    • How is it going to help? The link is of a Sikh hunter. Fine, but what good does that do the lazy Sikh who ate khulla maas in a restaurant? By the way, for the OP, yes, it's against rehit to eat khulla maas.
    • Yeah, Sikhs should do bhog of food they eat. But the point of bhog is to only do bhog of food which is fit to be presented to Maharaj. It's not maryada to do bhog of khulla maas and pretend it's OK to eat. It's not. Come on, bro, you should know better than to bring this Sakhi into it. Is this Sikh in the restaurant accompanied by Guru Gobind Singh ji? Is he fighting a dharam yudh? Or is he merely filling his belly with the nearest restaurant?  Please don't make a mockery of our puratan Singhs' sacrifices by comparing them to lazy Sikhs who eat khulla maas.
    • Seriously?? The Dhadi is trying to be cute. For those who didn't get it, he said: "Some say Maharaj killed bakras (goats). Some say he cut the heads of the Panj Piyaras. The truth is that they weren't goats. It was she-goats (ਬਕਰੀਆਂ). He jhatka'd she-goats. Not he-goats." Wow. This is possibly the stupidest thing I've ever heard in relation to Sikhi.
    • Instead of a 9 inch or larger kirpan, take a smaller kirpan and put it (without gatra) inside your smaller turban and tie the turban tightly. This keeps a kirpan on your person without interfering with the massage or alarming the masseuse. I'm not talking about a trinket but rather an actual small kirpan that fits in a sheath (you'll have to search to find one). As for ahem, "problems", you could get a male masseuse. I don't know where you are, but in most places there are professional masseuses who actually know what they are doing and can really relieve your muscle pains.
