  1. By Jagjit Singh Nov 12, 2003 My turban has saved me so many times that I cannot even begin to explain. Like most, I am also filled with greed. I even thought about conning or tricking others in order to accumulate wealth. However, every time I think about doing such actions, I think about my turban. A thought comes in my mind, how will my Guru feel if I do such a thing. I am a Sikh and a Sikh must walk on the path of humility and live happily in whatever God has given me. If I have not had a turban on my head, I probably would have become a thief or a con man. My turban saves me. My turban saves me from bad company as well. When I was in high school, I saw a person who was talking to high school kids about drugs. He would approach the kids and show them a small packet containing the drug and would ask them to try it. But he did not talk to me, he did not come near me, he saw my turban and kept his distance. I sometimes think how my life would have been if I have not had a turban. It would be very easy to talk to be in contact with druggies and thieves. Having such a company, I probably would have become a drunkard and/or a drug addict. The symbol Guru Ji gave me actually saves me. Now I know the importance of turban and its purpose. It is not just an identity of a Sikh but also keeps a Sikh away from bad company and keeps a Sikh focused in life.

  2. You all know the edl doesn't really care for Sikhs they will do anything just to split up groups for their own agenda and what are the English most known for .... Divide and conquer and a lot of these edl members think they are some sort of crusader type group ... I can't understand why some of our people support the relations between us n them it's a joke wake up !

  4. The best movies are rarely one dimensional. They may appear to be about a gangster or gangsters, but if you look deeper - and what makes some of these movies great - is they are much more than that. For youngsters the initial draw may be the violence, etc., but if the film has been written well enough, the characters seem like people we can identify with. Maybe they have flaws like we do, maybe they make mistakes that we've made. If you can connect with a character on an emotional level (even someone like a drug dealer) you can surely appreciate not to make the same or similar poor decisions. Other times you just want to switch-off and enjoy. Also, clearly it's not best to take moral cues from characters in movies, but sometimes we get help or inspiration from the most unlikeliest sources.

  5. There seems to be an confusion...Gurmat supports existence of chakras and using them for shabad surat marg which utilize kant, nabhi, trikurti and dasam dvaur chakar. However, gurmat discourages yogi way of meditating on chakras using pranas. Yogis use pranas on chakras to open them. Gurmat use "Shabad Surat" on chakras to open them and listen to anhad shabad. Yogis have to sit in smadhi in order for pran(Vital force) to enter through via chakras and get anand. If he is not in smadhi, his surti goes down to normal level and he is affected by panj chor just like everyone else. However, in gurmat does not have sit in smadhi after some time because with surti he/she can listen to dhuni (resosance) all the time. He can stay in "sehaj samadhi". Actually since we are talking about it, main aim for sikh is to one with vahiguroo/ bhramgyan -gyan of atma-paratma. All the things like dasam dvar, listening to anhad shabad using shabad surat stays much below than bhramgyan. In fact, this is consider by some as - shukhsam maya as person can easily get stuck in- listening to anhad shabad at dasam dvaur, seein future/past, having all ridhya sidhya...they think at dasam dvar its ultimate reality that they don't move further towards their main aim. At that point, its only through kirpa of guru maharaj can get them out from the shuksham maya trap. Shabad Surat Marg is parvan in Gurmat, is in fact encouraged but with keeping in mind that dasam dvar or listen to anhad shabad its not the final destination for sikh..real moksh is - bhramgyan- gyan of bhram/atma-paratma.

  6. Imagine an atheist. Not just an atheist but a smart atheist. An atheist who could do all the bad things in the world by justifying them with every kind of explanation. Would he even be helped by anything? What would it take for him to be turned into a believer? For me it was an event where I was saved from the worst possible place on earth. I wont disclose much but Shaheed Singhs do exist. I have seen them. I have felt the energy around them. Its undescribable. The difference is believing in something that you have no reason to. Young Singhs with a neela bana. I dont know what I can do to return the favor. But ever since I've felt the blow of the kirpaan I've leaned towards Guru ghar and came into Sikhi saroop.

I came to visit southall once and I went to Gurdwara Singh Sabha but I want to clarify because I don't know the area at all but is it that big gurdwara on the corner it's massive inside huge langer hall, tv screens I have never seen such a big gurdwara is that the gurdwara doing these matrimonials? It shouldn't happen in sacred places it sounds like blind date or something, it's wrong on so many levels. We go gurdwara to listen to gurbani not to search for partners!

  9. I can't believe people have made this an issue!!! Nothing in Sikhi I have ever come across says periods are evil, bad, unclean etc. etc. There is no reason why ladies shouldn't attend Gurdwaras because of them or do seva. Can we just nip this one in the bud, Sikhs are facing really serious issues and we don't need non-issues to waste our time.

  10. Vaheguru ji ka khalsa Vaheguru ji ki fateh, As princess has replied; yes, you can go like anything other day because maharaj's darbar is open to everyone at all times. However, I personally would not do maharaj di seva on those particular days because you need complete sucham. Some bibiya like to cause uproar about this issue and claim that they are being prevented from doing seva and there is lack of equality between genders but I think it is a matter of common sense. There is not sexism going on, only respect for Guru Granth Sahib Jee, do you really want to do seva of maharaj knowing there could be a breach in sucham? Although I have mentioned that you shouldnt really do maharaj di seva (out of respect) this does not mean we are prevented from going to the gurdwara and getting darsan of our father. Many people think that they dont have to do their nitnem etc if they are menstruating. This is not the case. Menstruation is a natural element of the female reproductive system which has been installed into us bibiya for a reason by maharaj... we get the gift of giving birth and a maternal bond with creation for 9 months which singhs arent physically capable of doing, so please bibiya do not feel inferior to singhs - menstruation is not a burden on us. IT IS A GIFT. Sincere apologies to anyone I may have offended. Vaheguru ji ka khalsa Vaheguru ji ki fateh.
