  1. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh One soldier in every six in the British Army was Indian, with Sikhs comprising one-fifth of the Indian contingent when the war began. As we approach the centenary of the beginning of World War I, on July 28, revisionist histories are beginning to examine the role of non-white and non-European people in the war effort. From the Indian sub-continent, around 1.5 million soldiers volunteered to fight in places from Belgium to West Asia. Many of them were Sikhs. http://scroll.in/article/671238/Rare-images-of-Sikh-soldiers-who-fought-in-World-War-I

  2. You claim you are a sikh girl but do you know what it means to be a sikh whether you live in Europe or some pind in Punjab in India? You are not a sikh girl but totally and altogether an ignorant and confused girl! A sikh girl or boy does not have to be an amritdhari to behave decently first of all. Decent behaviour is mandatory upon all sikh girls and boys, all grown men and women amritdhari or not!!! You claim you are a sikh. Tell the sangat here when did any of the Sikh Gurus tell their followers to cut their hair? Which Guru was it, we would all like to know. Again which Sikh Guru and when did they say consuming meat is fine. Go ahead and devour it? Which Sikh Guru and when did they say partial nudity, even if it is only your shoulders and legs and strutting around in bikinies is all fine with us? You are not a sikh girl. You are a girl who does not know who she is. You are a wannabe sikh girl and there are plenty more like you in this world. You are basically a girl who wishes she were a sikh without the responsibilities that come along with it. Don't tell me about the boys that are doing what you intend to do as well. These boys are not sikhs, they are just like you. They are also lost and confused just like yourself. If you asked these very boys what it meant to be seen as a sikh you will find no joy in their answers! I hope you are already aware of many muslim boys impersonating sikh boys these days with karra on, a sikh name and even a khanda bandana on their heads to lure lost souls like you into their clutches. So be aware of them! The sikh Guru Ji gave to sikh girls/boys/men/women a dastaar upon their heads. We were given this with their blessings and that is the reason a sikh dastaar is not like any other dastaar around the world. They donot have the halo of our Gurus ji's blessings upon them. When someone asks a sikh man/women about their dastaar the immediate answer is it is 'our Guru's nishaani.' A sikh dastaar is a sign of our Guru jis' BLESSINGS for which many precious lives have been sacrificed and we should feel totally indebted to these great Souls. We are the envy of the muslim world. We are the envy of the whole world! Why would any sikh girl or boy want to wear a dastar and behave the way you are planning to do is beyond me? Find out what it means to wear a sikh dastar and its SIGNIFICANCE before you even let your head touch it. God help and save us all!! If other sikhs are doing bad things and you believe deep down in your heart that you are the daughter of the bestowers of the sikh dastar then set an example for these idiots. Tell them they look and behave more like sullahs than sikhs! THEY HAVE NO RESEMBLANCE TO OUR GURUS IN ANY SHAPE OR FORM!

  4. ~~Deep Gnosis behind Mahavak in Gurbani~ Source: Taken from commentary of japji sahib teeka by sant gyani gurbachan singh bhindranwale We all heard about term 'mahavaak' during katha discourses of gurbani in sikh tradition many times. But ever wondered deep gnosis meaning behind the term mahavaak? This small write up is invitation for sikhs (spiritual seekers/learner) to explore deep meanings of mahavak in gurbani so gnosis of mahavak in gurbani be understood and contemplated upon and applied in sikh spiritual quest. In traditional gurmat, mahavaak in gurbani in form of verse, term, mantra or couplet within gurbani means - 'direct knowledge about unity between soul and supreme soul-vahiguru'. Satguru has given apar kirpa(grace) to whole humanity by providing such direct knowledge about unity between soul and supreme soul which meant to be contemplated by seeker who wishes to know truth or their real self.. Sant gyani gurbachan singh khalsa bhindranwale writes in japji sahib teek (pdf page-510) to reiterate importance of gurbani revelation and mahavaks-direct knowledge of unity of soul and supreme soul-vahiguru. Whilst vedas have four main mahavak (direct knowledge of unity between soul and supreme soul). Revelation of gurbani/Gurbani provides countless mahavaks. Sant ji provides examples from gurbani. 1. Satguru nanak dev ji gave updesh to advance seeker/learner(sikh). Here satguru gives direct knowledge of unity between soul and supreme soul in this mahavak- Tu sada salamat nirankar. Satguru repeats this mahavak four times in Panch parvan, Asankh jaap, Asankh Morakh, Asankh Nav couplets in japji sahib. Commentary of tu sada salamat nirankar(japji sahib teek pdf page- 483): Question was asked by spiritual seeker (sikh) to satguru nanak dev ji what is my saroop? or my identity? Satguru nanak dev ji responds: Tu (Individual real self-soul) Sada Salamat (Supreme soul-Vahiguroo) Nirankar: Both are nirankar. 2. Nirgun sargun apaie Soi (Ang- 129) 3. Nirgun Aaap Sargun Bhi Ohi (Ang- 297) Sant ji further explains bachans which has sargun and nirgun knowledge of vahiguroo or unity shabads, those are all mahavaks and should be perceived it as such by advance seeker. Advance seeker and seeker who posses such estoeric attributes- requires only small indication (dristan-example). --- Unity of individual soul and supreme soul also written in rest of gurbani. Āṯmā parāṯamā eko karai. His soul and the Supreme Soul become one. Anṯar kī ḏubiḏẖā anṯar marai. ||1|| The duality of the inner mind is overcome. Āṯme no āṯme ḏī parṯīṯ ho▫e ṯā gẖar hī parcẖā pā▫e. If the individual soul has faith in the Supreme Soul, then it shall obtain realization within its own home. Also bachan by sri guru gobind singh ji in sri dasam granth sahib- gyan parbodh: ਚਰਿਓ ਆਤਮਾ ਪਰਾਤਮਾ ਸੰਗ ॥ ਉਤਭੁਜ ਸਰੂਪ ਅਬਿਗਤ ਅਭੰਗ ॥ उचरिओ आतमा परातमा संग ॥ उतभुज सरूप अबिगत अभंग ॥ The soul said to the Higher Soul; the Germinating Entity, Unmanifested and Invincible; What is this Soul Entity? Which hath indelible glory and which is of queer substance."2.127. ਪਰਾਤਮਾ ਬਾਚ ॥ परातमा बाच ॥ The Higher Soul said: ਯਹਿ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਆਹਿ ਆਤਮਾ ਰਾਮ ॥ ਜਿਹ ਅਮਿਤ ਤੇਜਿ ਅਬਿਗਤ ਅਕਾਮ ॥ यहि ब्रहम आहि आतमा राम ॥ जिह अमित तेजि अबिगत अकाम ॥ This Soul is itself Brahman;" Who is of Everlasting Glory and is Unmanisfested and Desireless. Who is indiscriminate, actionless and deathless; Who hath no enemy and friend and is Merciful towards all.3.1228. ---- Above discourse is dedicated to sant gyani gurbachan singh bhindranwale on their barsi, sant ji japji sahib teeka and above gurbani katha in japji sahib steek is gift to sikh world on their barsi. This is meant to be understood and contemplated on and applied by sikhs from all walks of life.

  5. I think we should encourage sikh girls to wear a turban from a young age. Sikh girls grow up watching their younger or older brothers wearing a turban thinking it is only meant for boys and not for girls. Our parents are suppose to teach us the sikh values from the very start of our young lives regardless of which gender we belong to because this helps us to put our lives into perspective as we grow older. What is the point in telling our children they are sikhs when we don't even teach them what it means to be one? Our parents don't teach us the underlying message contained in the teachings? Why should the teachings of all our Gurus be passed on differently to different genders? We are suppose to receive them equally aren't we? Why are our parents not teaching us the values, norms and customs that are entrenched within the these teachings. Sikh Gurus banned koori mar, jaat paat, earning your livelihood through dishonest means. They also banned use of tobacco and alcohol. They also said that a sikh should only marry a sikh and so on. So why are parents not teaching their children the reasoning behind these teachings? Rather than becoming too smug because they have too much money now and are free of Punjab and the inujustices of the Indian government they should take their parental responsibilities extremely seriously. The policy of the Indian government to destroy sikhism by dislocating or displacing the sikh populations and demoralizing them in a manner which is so cruel and vindictive is succeeding as I type. This should not discourage the sikhs abroad from keeping sikhism alive for their future generations. In fact this should force them to become even more vigilant and determined. They need to do this because they owe it to their future pirri. Why are they losing their children to muslims by allowing them to marry them? Is this why our Gurus sacrificed their lives and families for us? Was it ever their wish for us or our children to convert to muslim religion? NEVER! So why are our children converting to the most hated and destructive religion in the world? Have the sikhs forgotton their sikh history so soon? I totally abhor those idiots that wear a dastar, a karra and trim their beards. May they burn in hell. In fact they do look exactly like sullah men with turbans when you inspect or study them closely! If they are not then I suggest that they should be tied up like a bundle of sticks and thrown at the doorsteps of a mosque for kalamas! We should really concentrate on the genuine ones that hope to follow the path someday genuinely! We should openly commend and honour the champions of the sikh faith. These champions should be extoled to such an extent that they bcome role models for our children. No one should be allowed to disrespect sikhi and its teachings. We are each responsible for our behavior and how it is construed by others. If our conduct with a dastar on is not decent than we should hold ourselves responsible. The way we conduct ourselves as sikhs or not tells a lot about ourselves to others. The sikh dastaar and bad conduct does not mix and should be avoided at all times for it can be very harmful. It affects the whole sikh panth/ community/Family all over the world.

  6. GURDASPUR, Punjab (July 25, 2014)—In a press statement, the SGPC President Avtar Makkar has condemned the incident at Gurdwara Miri Piri Patshahi Chhevin, located on the Sri Hargobindpur Talwara road. His statement came after a volume of Siri Guru Granth Sahib was severely damaged after a fire incident at the Gurdwara which was caused by a short circuit. The incident took place at 10 AM, shortly after the Sikh Sangat had left the morning services. Makkar alleged that from time to time, the SGPC publishes notifications in the newspapers, asking Gurdwara sevadars to ensure proper electric wiring in Gurdwaras, to ensure there are no incidents of short-circuits. Sikh24 has reported multiple such incidents, in which Siri Guru Granth Sahib ji’s volumes have been left with severe damage. The local Sikh Sangat is however suspicious over the incident, and have asked for an in-depth inquiry. It has been alleged that there was no electricity in the Gurdwara when the incident took place, further, only the bed in the sukhasan room was left burnt. Source:Sikh24.Com

  10. InderRS, I do not have any desire to attack and throw cheap insults on Hinduism or you. My simple contention is that Gurmat is revealed way of life and it's founders were not influenced by any preexisting philosophy. Gurmat is unique and independent. If you want to discuss purusha and prakriti then pick a system and we can discuss how Gurmat is unique. Having some similarities doesnt show one to be an offshoot of another. If you are looking for a debate then you will have to find another forum. Guru Rakha

  11. Lets be fair here. The young lady has gone through what none of us would ever like to go through ourselves! The non sikh practice of honour killings. Can anyone say that they wouldnt have some jaded view of a faith BASED on the knowladge and background. So she married a Muslim. She wasnt/isnt a Sikh. You are not born a Sikh but become a Sikh through your actions and yes a family with strong education can help. Instead of pointing out her faults decide to take action against the crippling castist culture that is excused in our community. Campaign for an end to female abortions, educate yourselves so our children have the knowladge and the tools to become great Sikhs. Leave this lady alone.

  12. Turban symbolizes total surrender/commitment to Akal Purukh(God) and Sikhi, so if ur not willing to give up some things, then i would not recommend wearing the turban. As for the boys u mentioned.....two wrongs don't make a right.
