  1. With so many kharkoo singhs attending the Sikh Fed Convention, I hope someone addressed the situation there and then. Apparently, it seems a common behaviour of the Sikh Channel staff to smoke around the sneaky corner of a Gurdwara, this seems to be witnessed everytime, yet no one seems to say anything at the time. Next time the backside of a Sikh Channel member of staff is visible, instead of all gauping at it, maybe we should ask them to leave and wear something appropriate for the Guru Ghar there and then! We do have the right to refuse them entry!
  2. Why not just call the new channel Gupt TV!
  3. Thank you Khalsa Aid for highlighting this. I remember hearing about these Singh's when I was little, but no one seemed to know anymore about them. Please sangat ji, we should be setting up standing orders with Khalsa Aid, so that these projects can be funded.
  4. http://www.ctvbc.ctv.ca/servlet/an/local/CTVNews/20100904/bc_sikh_modernize_100904/20100904?hub=BritishColumbiaHome Sikhs must modernize to prevent youth from joining gangs: group By: The Canadian Press Date: Saturday Sep. 4, 2010 12:44 PM PT North America's oldest Sikh temple society needs to modernize century-old traditions before more youth are lost to gang violence, says a spokesman for a group that has sued the society over its membership process. Jatinder Singh of Sikh Youth Vancouver said Friday that the Khalsa Diwan Society is stuck in old-school thinking that's keeping young people out of its temple. Singh, 42, said parents and grandparents of young Sikhs also want the temple, called the Ross Street Gurdwara, to change with the times. "They want modernization," he said. "They're tired of their children no longer knowing the Punjabi language, they're tired of their grandchildren falling into cycles of violence and gangs and drugs. And they're tired of their children and grandchildren being disengaged from Canadian society and the Sikh community." Singh said his group has unsuccessfully tried to meet with the society to suggest outreach programs and an Internet site to engage young people. "I don't think we're advocating that they should have their religious services by Twitter," he said. "We're just talking about how do we engage an entirely disconnected era of people," he said. "When you lack a sense of community, you lack a sense of responsibility and when you lack that you become engaged in things that are tainting our community." Kesar Bhatti, the society's senior vice-president, said earlier this week that Singh's group consists of so-called fundamentalists who are only interested in controlling the temple now run by moderates. But Singh, who said he began attending the temple as a child in 1973 and recently returned there, called Bhatti's assertions "nonsense," saying such labels have nothing to do with his concerns. "We are, in a word, modernists, and they're traditionalists," he said. Sikh Youth Vancouver recently filed a lawsuit against the society after questioning the transparency of its membership process. Singh said both sides have now complied with a B.C. Supreme Court judge's order to agree on a third-party administrator who would oversee memberships before an election at the temple. Last week, a judge invalidated the memberships of thousands of people, saying the process was flawed. But Bhatti, 79, said a count of 5,000 membership cards showed that five of them were not signed and about 30 were duplicates, although that error would have later been picked up. The election, held every three years, was scheduled for Nov. 6, but has now been put into limbo before Justice Paul Walker approves the administrator and a new membership procedure is finalized. Singh said his group is "very aggressively" trying to recruit members for the next election, after the legal issues have been settled. "We've knocked on hundreds of doors over the last few months," he said, adding the group is using social networking sites to draw people. "The membership drive is purely the mechanism by which we're looking to bring a progressive, next-generation, modern leadership to the institution," Singh said. For example, he said his group proposed online membership applications but the society wasn't interested, even after an offer to pay for someone to make that happen. "It doesn't make sense that in almost 2011 to have an institution of this size, with the largest Sikh temple society outside of India, to be unable to communicate with you by email." He said anyone can watch online services and events held at the Golden Temple, Sikh's holiest shrine, in India. "We're talking about a developing nation with sporadic Internet connections and electricity that you have approximately one third of the day."
  5. Many of the self made clever clogs who like to panic/confuse Sikhs use the Muslim hysteria on colours very often for blue too. Blue has also been slated by many wearers of white by labeling it a muslim colour. Ironically, I see most muslims going to mosque in white more than any other colours.
  6. Baba Ranjit Singh Dadriawale, Baba Baljit Singh DaduSahibwale often wear black. I have seen pictures of Baba Isher Singh Kaleran Wale, Baba Isher Singh Rarewala in black, as well as other respected Mahapursh of the last century.
  7. Perhaps it would be of greater benefit if the nominated UK group could focus on the local UK beadbi/issues taking place in the Gurdwaras, such as the party hall in Guru ghars, abuse of langar maryada, freelance Granthis, problamatic committees etc...
  8. I must have missed Jathedar Ji, I went to some of the Gurdwara Karamsar amritvela diwans this week but did not find him. Are there any recordings of his current vichaars or kathas? What are his views on the current situations in the Kaum and what sewa will Budha Dal be doing to help alleviate current problems? Will there be any video statements released from the current Jathedar of Budha Dal?
  9. The Government needs to create some hysteria in India. Why are the Sikh leaders in India still not counter attacking any of these claims, why are the influential Sikhs in the UK not doing anything to counter attack the media assassination of Sikhs? We're not far from the creation of some kind of "communal" hatred towards SIkhs being moulded in India and the international community. Sikh media needs to act fast otherwise our own community will start believing this mass hysteria.
  10. By Joggers, I take it you mean Joga Singh. I noticed how uncomfortable he got everytime Badal's name was dropped in the discussion on the Sunday evening programme. It amazes me how much fear Badal generates even to Sikhs thousands of miles away in another country.
  11. A fairly decent safe diplomatic discussion handled by the prabhandak panel. I suppose it's better handled in the "nice guy" way on TV rather than an aggressive name and shame. Thankyou to the Sikh Channel for finally airing a discussion show on the issue. Perhaps it can be followed up again in a few months.
  12. As per the text messages just received and the SKY TV Planner, Sikh Channel will be airing a live discussion programme on the Gurdwara Pary Halls at 8pm tonight (in 15 minutes).
  13. The head of Bhai Jaspal Singh from Peshawar It's still disheartening to know that Bhai Jaspal Singh not been declared a Shaheed by the Kaum yet? Just 6 months ago he was beheaded and his head was sent back by the taliban in full sabat soorat, a few weeks later the other captive Sikhs were released and came back as monay who accepted the forced conversion to Islam. If this was 100 years ago, we would have no issues remembering him as a Shaheed. So what's wrong with us today? Whilst we run around paying for plane tickets for our Jathedars/Mukhis and wearing Guru Ji's Bana as if we are part of some ancient costume drama, there are real Gursikhs in other countries who still have the anak of Sikhi in them. If anyone is thinking about cutting their Kes, then take a look at the above picture and be inspired that even today there are GurSikhs who will give up their head rather than give up their Sikhi. Parnaam Shaheeda Nu. http://panthic.org/articles/5218 http://www.pakspectator.com/jaspal-singh%E2%80%99s-death-a-perspective-on-sikh-persecution/ http://www.unitedsikhs.org/PressReleases/PRSRLS-23-02-2010-00.html
  14. Looks like Sikh Channel have now spotted the image on the advert. The picture had been blacked out and they have zoomed in on the shot. Too be honest, I don't think my mum and her friends will ever be ordering from the Sofa Company after the discussion I heard this afternoon, the Sofa Company's been branded as a bunch of perverts. Perhaps they can drop the "Satnam Waheguru" jingle too and stop abusing our Guru's Mantar as a marketing tool.
  15. At the moment the Kaum is a collection of very small voices with minimal impact. The Sikh Channel aired a discussion programme last night regarding these tortures, which was informative. The panel included Professor Davinderpal Singhs wife. Unfortunately, the best we are able to do is a safe tv discussion programme which only shows how we still have no collective global impact despite being so affluent. In the last decade just in the UK we have built multi-million pound Gurdwaras (Havelock Rd and Gravesend together came to over £40 million) collectively spending approx £100 million of the sangat's money on building alterations. We all know the root cause and the source of the problems but we currently lack the passion and commitment to our Kaum to do anything about it. Feel free to classify this as nindya, but high profile Jathedars/Mukhis/Sants are travelling around the globe, not as ambassadors of Sikhs but for their own self-promotion. They can claim direct lineages and authenticities to Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj but are they really representing the kaum or just themselves? Why have they not challenged the system in India which has blantantly been flushing out young Sikhs through drug addiction or police harrasment? Is it because their own "sewdars" are now hooked on those very drugs?
  16. This is the most bizzare incident of beadbi. If Proud Khalsa Network can write a brief account in English it will help us "westerners" understand whats going on. How did Chela Ram end up with these 2500 Saroops?
  17. Some good and some bad experiences. I was talking to some kids who attended the SMS camp. Fortunately, despite the likes of Bahadur Singh and others, these kids actually enjoyed the camp. Most of the clever ones switched off when Bahadur rattled on about himself and his amazing view on the world. It's funny how all the kid mention the "weird" Bahadur Singh before anything else. There is a problem though and that is no other group or Gurdwara in the UK is doing a 7 day sleep over Sikh Camp for children for that age group. So by default, SMS camp will be the first option of parents who are looking for that kind of camp regardless of the poor quality of the parchaar, living conditions and the bad attitudes.
  18. I noticed that too. Couldn't a panthic related business sponsor the Sahibzada baba Ajit Singh Akhara's one day camp. Are you promoting the right thing to the kids, a kebab house sponsoring a Sikh Camp is not a good example to set.
  19. Any comments yet from Akal Takht Sahib, any of the other takhts, SGPC, Damdami Taksaal, Sant Samaj, AKJ, Budha Dal, Dal Khalsa, AISSF, Anyone?
  20. Let this video stay on. It serves as a reality check to the kaum that dushts like this exist wearing and abusing the roop of the Khalsa. The whole of Punjab needs to see this video so that this person has no place to hide when he re-enters Punjab. Send the youtube link by sms text to all the sangat local to the Edmonton and even Canada.
  21. We are too distant or have no relationship with some of our local Gurdwaras. This is where the danger lies and where the probablity that some kind of manmat activity could be taking place. It's important that we know about all the Gurdwara's in our locality. I would seriously suggest that you visit these other Gurdwaras and see what happens there. It is because we isolate ourselves to specific Gurdwaras that some committees are able to get away with the abuse of the Guru Ghars which many of us don't attend.
  22. The title of this post is so relevant, "SIkh Channel, No Voice"
  23. Like the hundreds of Sikhs still sitting in Indian prison system on false terrorist charges, all the main Sikh leadership will distance themselves from those individuals. Sikh Channel are highly unlikely to express an interest in any Sikh issue unless it benefits their (or rather Mr Bal's) personal egos. The danger is that before we know it, Bhai Pal Singh will be another Paramjit Singh Dhadi or Professor Bhullar, just forgotten by the Sikhs.
