  1. Khalsa needs to do dund and bethak to get the pentra and footwork right... Hmm bhangra is a good exercise, who agrees? lol
  2. I will be using bikrami because I'm desi and not a confused coconut with lack of satkaar for traditions/reet/rawaz/parampara! Would be interesting, do any of the puraatan sampradaiye follow nanakshahi calendar? I don't understand this? In shastar vidiya guns can be easily integrated with the fighting, so are you saying that gatka is different?
  3. Well if they are using drugs like steroids, they might as well start drinking bhang and shaheedi degh and alcohol. What do you think?
  4. No it doesn't, that is bull. lol Dharam doesn't mean "hinduism", and adding the term sanatan to dharam doesn't make it "hinduism" either. Sanatan means everlasting and dharma means dharma, so sanatan dharma means everlasting dharma. Of course, some hindu sects do use the term "sanatan dharma" there is no denying that! Hindus, sikhs, Buddha - followers and jains follow dharma, as opposed to perhaps goras/christians who follow religion and their own cultures. That is why some people just clump together everyone who follows dharm as practising of sanatan dharma. Of course some people agree, others disagree.
  5. Which of the calendars follow the desi bikrami dates and which ones follow Nanakshahi dates for Gurpurbs? I was so so confused during Guru Gobind Singhs gurpurb this time.
  6. Lohri is culture, so it depends how traditional the individual is in order to celebrate it, how much satkaar the individual gives to traditions. A dharmik person normally gives satkaar. Also if you want be modern, then why not celebrate Lohri for girls? Guru deh sikh are not against traditions. However Mughal invaders might be against Lohri, but sikhs, why would they be against a tradition?
  7. Hmm do amrit dharis wear sheeps wool? I have another question, can we use tablas made from lambskin/goatskin? Another question, do amrit dharis follow kshatri dharam or Brahmin dharam?
  8. Most sikhs in fact do not cling onto THE caste system of the 4 varnas. The punjabi caste system the sikhs follow now is in fact different from the caste system Guru ji describes in bani. Guru ji made Khalsa warriors; for hindu society the use of the name Singh and being a warrior is seen as being in a kshatriya caste/varna!! Similarly a sant/sadhu, for a hindu, would be seen as being in Brahmin varna/caste or even casteless.
  9. There are definetly Nanakshahis, but I don't know if there are any arab Nanakshahi muslim-sikhs. (Yes I said muslim-sikh, some people are not confined to boundaries lol)
  10. hmm but havan is from the native culture right? I would have to question one's understanding of kshatri dharam to consider this part as being a mistake? Of course, but how do non-puraatan jathebandis have a more perfect maryada than Guru's puraatan sampradaiey? Just a question!?!
  11. Can you please send me a private message with this question? I guarantee I will blow your mind, as I have views that are not acceptable in this forum just like yours! I cannot write anymore, so please message me!
  12. Oh what a conundrum. Hmm it wouldn;t be very cultural or dharmik marrying outside of culture and tradition. However, I find modern UK jatt sikh girls a hassle and perhaps a gori is not a bad option. Although, I think I will go to India and find a bride there instead! lol
  13. What the heck is sanatanism, is that a term some extremists made up to scare people? I thought sanatan means everlasting, so sanatan sikhi means everlasting sikhi or something? An overall hateful article!
  14. they are doing yoga or something? Did you know you can also recite bani and Jaap Sahib while practising shastars!!! Also, doing other things as well! There is your fact for the day!
  15. hmm, I have to explain, the "shastar vidiya" describes the science of warfare, and is indeed made up of different ancient martiial arts from around the subcontinent. So its more arts than just one art. So it cannot be the same as gatka, which is more of a fencing art which recently is associated with sikhs, but may have other origins comparable with fencing and khutka.
  16. IF someone wants to tie a thread, its upto that person. It may or may not have meaning for that person, tie it or don't, is there any significant harm in doing or not doing it? What is harmful is if people get wound up over others tying it, that is something significantly which Guru ji did not teach to us, a rather unacceptable behaviour seen by some sangat!
  17. I believe tying patka too tight can limit blood circulation to hair, hmm wait I am not sure how that works?! Erm nevermind, but I am sure there is some connection with tying too tight and losing hair, or something...
  18. oh hey, well in sikh panth the Singhs are seen as superheroes, I think most sangat on this forum shall agree. I don't think the 2 anglo sikh wars paint the whole picture. Please point me to some history books. The point and thrust technique leaves a lot of body open for attack, including the arms, that is where the ancient techniques take advantage. And also the swinging cutting techniques also follow patterns that can be seen in an opponent. I'm afraid neither the forward thrust nor the swinging techniques are compatible with the ancient arts. The western arts are more to do with power, and less to do with technique, whilst the ancient arts are more technique followed by power. If shastar vidiya was ineffective then why would the british require to ban these arts, and replace them with fencing style arts?
  19. I have seen people doing bhangra whil sitting down and on stage in Guru Granth Sahib dee hazoori wich, and even doing keertan to bhangra and bollywood saaj. lol? I have seen people doing ardaas praising chandi and bhagauti, and reading paat praising ram, gobind and har har har!!!!
  20. the problem is, the gurdwara is not promoting enough respect or duty towards turban. Also there is not enough parchar and awareness about the lack of respect toward turban WITHIN the gurdwara and gurdwara matrimonials, and that the people who join and promote this anti - turban sentiment aren't made aware of what they are doing! They are coming to gurdwara to ask for marriage, yet aren't showing respect to guru or community! And this is not on high alert either, the sikh channels and radio stations barely touch on this subject. The problem is increasing but why are the gurdwaras involved in increasing this?
  21. yes and yes to music india ptc as well! also the punjabi and sikh radio stations as well sangat jee!!
  22. very basic, I don't think so. the very basic technqiues came from the british army, from an art of the persians or turks (one of the 2) called kuthka. fencing in war? are you kidding me? oh they did, that is why the Singhs live in DALS, and veteran skilled nihangs were called Akalis. in the ancient arts even the distaar and beard are weapons. distaar with a sharp point to stab the enemy. And beard pulling can be manipulated to pull yourself into the enemy, ie use their energy against them. The ancient arts include dumalla as protection. To wear the right thickness of dumalla. What does MMA or gatka or even phillopino arts have to do with dumalla and beard?
  23. Well I culturally prefer a long kesh girl, and that is before involving sikhi whatsoever. That is because long kesh girl has traditional understanding. But its difficult and so sometimes I have to look at girls that trim their hair as well but still respect Singhs. There are also long kesh girls that don't respect turban either. Also long kesh girls come from Singh as well as non-Singh families. But ones from non-Singh families are more likely to be traditional than not, but again respecting turban is a tradition the families forget to include.
