  1. Kalyug Brother, I think only a Nihang like Baba Nihal Singh will be able to give you satisfactory answers to some of your questions.
  2. I was lucky to spend some time with Babaji yesterday in Toronto, he spoke alot about keeping rehit and eating meat, about rehit he said that it is a worrying trend that many young Sikhs keep a turban but trim their beards, and they keep 4 kakkars but forget the fifth; he also said it is worrying that there are families where one brother may be into Sikhi and the rest of the family goes their own way into sansar. About meat/fish/eggs, Babaji said that they are a huge cause for many illnesses and physical, endocrine system ailments because animal blood does not mix with human blood and over time this can cause a number of health problems, Babaji further said that to walk on the spiritual path it is essential to give up meat/fish/eggs, alcohol and going to parties and clubs etc.
  3. Babaji will be at Malton Gurdwara Thursday April 9th doing katha at 7:00pm, call Gurdwara for details of other programs.
  4. What's more, It is sad how 'Brahminism' has become such a readily applied slur-like watch-word used by people with certain agendas to smear other groups. I mean if there are no pandits or brahmins at a function reciting vedic mantras and worshipping idols--how can anyone say that the group is Brahminized? This has become such a dangerous trend that we even have people from the anti-panthic singh sabha international calling Damdami Taksal and Nihangs 'brahminized' with no evidence, this word is just used to defame people and organizations because of the strong anti-Hindu sentiments in our community--which is wrong and decietful.
  5. Brother, Nanaksar has a beautiful maryada given by Baba Nand Singh ji himself who was a paragon of devotion unto Guru Nanak Dev ji and Sri Guru Granth Sahibji that is simply unrivalled; who is anyone here to question what is in or lacking from the maryada made by such a high soul? The Nanaksar maryada is the same as in the Nirmala Sampardai which goes back to Bhai Daya Singh and Bhai Dharam Singh ji, the keeping of jyot and jal is purataan maryada, and will be seen in any Nirmal kuttia.
  6. Thank You Brother, I however am of the opinion that people already have their minds made up about Babaji before they read his jivan sakhi--which is perfectly fine as he was a polarizing figure due to many political/media machinations, but as this site is free from any such slants or negativity I think that all is fine as it now stands.
  7. And also just to add to that, it was and is well known amongst Singhs in Hazur Sahib especially around Gurdwara Mata Sahib Devi, Baba Mitt Singh Boonga etc, that Baba Santa Singh would be Jathedar eventually as since he was a mere youth, Mahapurukhs like Baba Mitt Singh ji and Baba Dharam Singh ji had said that he would be leader and chief pacharak of the Panth in due time, so from that time he had an almost legendary status and was greatly respected, and when he met Baba Chet Singh ji he was all the more respected and it was inferred many a time that he would succeed him as Jathedar, The row over his jathedhari was started by rival camps and their proponents, but similar rows occured even over the succession of Baba Sahib Singh Kaladhari--which again Baba Mitt Singh ji all-knowingly resolved based on Sri Akal Purukh's hukam and so the tradition of reffering to older mahapurukhs is then well established by Babaji's time. And as I said, we would be hard pressed in any jathebandi to point to a calm, unrivalled succession do to the ankhar of dusshts as can be evidenced by Balbir Singh's sham succession, but then again, there is a clearcut difference between someone standing on a rooftop and proclaiming themself jathedar as Balbir has done, and having all the misals, jathas, etc formally ratify someone as chief as has now been done with Jathedar Baba Surjit Singh ji and Jathedar Baba Joginder Singh ji.
  8. Yes Veerji, The Nihangs have preserved many of these banis such as Uggardanti since the late 1800's to this day, but as they didn't have printing presses and as the Comittee and the Establishment went along with this decree to exclude banis--they have been printing the Dasam Granth Sahib in this same manner since then and it has become standard now.
  9. Yes Veerji, You are right, it was a contested succession in which other proponents opposed Babaji's succession, we however have chosen to focus on the spiritual aspects of his life for inspirational and celebratory reasons and have therefore excluded such controversies that others have already elucidated upon elsewhere (whether rightly or wrongly).
  10. Look for Baba Dharam Singh ji's jeevan sakhi in a few weeks it's quite long and informative.
  11. Laadli Fauj ji is right, Misals were units or regiments of military might who occupied certain territories of Khalsa Raj, there were many Misals named for their locality i.e Singhpuria Misal, or for the name of their founder, the Bhangi Misal was so named for their consumption of bhang, as an earlier poster wrote, Shaheedi Misal Tarna Dal is so named because of Baba Deep Singh ji's famed shaheedi, so they are a regiment of martyrs you could say.
  12. 'grassing' is slang for snitching or 'ratting' on somebody, turning them over to the police.
  13. Beautiful, beautiful post Kam Veerji, what could anyone possibly add to that symphony? Baba Laxman Das ji was not an Udasi but the Bedis of today proudly descend from him, his lineage went on until the great Baba Sahib Singh Bedi and further until holy Baba Madhusudhan Singh ji in the present day Baba Sarbjot Singh ji is the head of the Bedi Family at Una Sahib and has successfully ventured into the political spectrum, while there is also a little-known spiritual lineage called the Sahib Singh Bedi Sampardai which came from Baba Madhusudhan Singh ji through Baba Natha Singh ji of Ropar and continues today under Baba Karam Singh ji (Banur Sahib), the Sampardai is also more historically called the Laxman Das Sampardai, I have even read some old Asiatic Journals from the 1800's that mention this Sampardai as existing in Una Sahib and being descended from Sri Guru Nanak Sahib.
  14. Baba Biram Das Udasi is one of the mahan sants of Sikhi, he was a maste fakir who was related to Guru Gobind Singh, and he got his inner darshan. Udasis are not 'sad', they are sadhus who renounce the world and spread respect for Guru Granth Sahib amongst Hindus at the kumbh mela and at Hardwar, they also do seva of giving Aryuvedic remedies to the poor, Dasmesh Pita greatly respected the true Udasi holy men and they fought alongside him and even accompanied him to Hazur Sahib, he gave Anandpur to an Udasi Sant when he left, their dress allows them to freely mingle amongst Hindus and especially yogis etc, they hold many debates on Vedant and such with them to show the supremacy of Guru Nanak's way and in so doing bring many into Sikhi, they are really Sikh ascetics and were sanctioned by Guru Nanak Sahib to carry out this parchar,
  15. Gurmat says that everything is based on the karmas from past jeevans, whatever the situation it is a circling effect from past misdeeds and wrongs against others which were the cause of this. Also 'informing' on someone is a very, very low thing in Sikhi, You should be content to let future karma take care of these people, hear or in the afterworld or in a future birth they will be rightly punished, 'telling on them' only satisfy's ones ego and need for revenge which will only lead to future repercussions to you, also do you really think that you could live with being considered an 'informer', in Guruji's time these were considered the lowest people, and if you read Bhai Sahib Randhir Singh ji's biography you will find that he hated informers deeply and when the authorities pressed and punished and imprisoned him to coerce him to do so, he always refused.
  16. Thank You Brothers, Lost Veerji here is the link again:Baba Nihal Singh ji New Katha Some new articles and biographies are soon to be added, will let you know when.

  18. Viro or Veero, a beautiful name I believe it was Guru Hargobind's daughter's name
  19. Jathedar Baba Nihal Singh ji Harianbelan has alot of knowledge of shastar vidiya especially it's historical developments and it's application of different pentras to different chands of Dasam Bani, Singhs from Harianbelan have alot of knowledge on these matters and could definately direct you to a knowledgeable teacher.
  20. The Guru hunted to liberate souls as per God's Hukam period. The Akali Nihang Singh Khalsa was instructed to hunt to maintain bir ras, learn how to handle weapons in the field practically as is written in Prachin Panth Prakash in the section regarding Baisakhi and in other pertinent passages of Suraj Prakash Granth and Prem Sumarag Granth.
  21. Malton has one too, not nearly as good though; Dunwin supposedly has one though I've never seen it.
  22. The Nihangs did not ever create their own Rehit, it was given to them in 1699 by Guru Gobind Singh himself when it was officially formailized and it has been kept by them unchanged since that time. The same maryada has been practised at Hazur Sahib since 1708--unchanged even now. This SGPC rehit was initiated only in the 1920's and was not officialized until the 1940's and at best it is an arbitrarily editied version of the original rehit expounded above and from the very rehitnamas it critiques, and thus it has no binding on anyone, would you care to explain why the Nihang Rehit was practised at Akal Takht and Darbar Sahib from the times of the Gurus until the 1900's? Read Suraj Prakash Granth, Prachin Panth Prakash and Navleen Panth Prakash--they clearly state that Nihang Singhs are the original form of the Khalsa. The Akali Nihang Singh Khalsa Panth gave the Gurugaddi to Sri Sarbloh Granth ji and Sri Dasam Guru Darbar ji in 1708--as was their right and obligation being that they are the highest authority in Sikhism vested by the Guru himself as upholders of his divine seat. Suraj Prakash Granth clearly states that Sukhnidhaan was bestowed on the Khalsa Panth by Guruji himself, all of our great historical leaders that we love to praise like Nawab Kapur Singh Virk etc, partook of it, and as I said the SGPC rehit has no binding on the Sikh community except those who choose to follow it, the Guru never created any Commitees to handle Sikh Leadership affairs, though the British did.
