  1. All please remember that in the recent Sikh lobby at the British Parliment we communicated out that any Sikhi related issues now needs to go through the Sikh Council UK (as they are an umbrella organisation which represents over 100 Gurdwaras & Sikh Organisations) and that includes public relations. I had previously been in touch with the Sikh Council and they advised that they were working on a long term media stratedgy. I have emailed them again for an update and will keep you all posted. In the meantime please tell the individuals who are willing to undertake the seva of publically speaking to get in touch with the Sikh Council directly and let themselves be known.
  2. Can any of our Canadian Sikh brothers/siters give the rest of the international Sikh community a brief update on the results of the Canadian elections from a Sikh perspective.
  3. There was no gatka, thanks for the rubbish info....
  4. These guys were given time on the Sikh Channel to promote their campaigns for election. So if what you are saying is true, please gather all the evidence together and discusss this with Sikh Channel representatives. Because if what you are saying is true, the Sikh Channel have unknowingly supported Anti panthic individulas who they know must hold to account.
  5. Anybody actually call Sikh TV and speak to them?

  10. The Magistrate has ordered the Police to submit a report on the incident on 16th April 2011. Writes to Chief Justice of India and the Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, and the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) to take suo moto action against the errant police officers and to order a reform of the Punjab Police Rules to protect religious freedom. Writes to the Indian Prime Minister, Home Minister and the Panjab Chief Minister and Home Minister seeking a public statement, condemning this egregious police action and to ensure that those responsible for such actions are held accountable both on a local and national level and seeking a reform of the Punjab Police Rules to protect religious freedom. Organises a petition ( http://unitedsikhs.o...ition.php?id=16 ) urging the Global Sikh Community and members of society who uphold the values of freedom of religion, thought, and belief to condemn the action of the errant police officers in Mohali, Panjab, by signing a petition seeking judicial and governmental intervention to end institutional bigotry in the Punjab Police. Petition may be signed here Errant police officers suspended yesterday but Sikhs demand a full inquiry to establish how institutional bigotry in the Punjab Police can be eliminated Mohali, Panjab, India: UNITED SIKHS has filed today a criminal complaint with the Mohali Judicial Magistrate First Class about the willful public removal of a Sikh's Turban by a Punjab Police officer, who said he was acting on the instructions of a police superintendent. The Magistrate has ordered the Police to respond with a report on the next hearing date, 16th April 2011. This incident that has hurt the religious sentiments of the global Sikh Community, is an affront to a community that considers Panjab as its homeland and the birthplace of its religion. The incident in question took place on March 28, 2011 near the PCA stadium, Mohali, Panjab. A Sikh youth, participating in a peaceful sit-in staged by retrenched rural veterinary pharmacists and employees, was pulled aside by police officials and his Turban was forcibly removed without cause. The police official responsible for the act is a Mohali Phase VIII Station House Officer (SHO), Sub-Inspector Kulbhushan, and he said he acted on orders from Mohali Superintendent of Police (SP)- Pritam Singh to remove the turban of the Sikh individual who had requested that his turban not be touched. A video of the incident may be watched at The Sikh youth requesting the SP not to touch his Turban. The SHO of Mohali Phase VIII Police Station, Sub Inspector Kulbhushan, removes and holds the Turban of the Sikh individual UNITED SIKHS' Chandigarh based lawyer, Sukhwinder Singh, filed the complaint with Judicial Magistrates First Class, Mohali, Panjab, under Section 295 A of the Indian Penal Code on grounds that the Punjab Police officer's removal of the Sikh's turban was a deliberate and malicious act, intended to outrage religious feelings of Sikhs by insulting their religious beliefs. "The Sikh Community is fighting for justice and recognition as a distinct entity globally amidst challenges to the wearing of the turban post 9/11. However, it least expects disrespect to its articles of faith in Panjab, where most Sikhs originate from," said Mejindarpal Kaur, UNITED SIKHS Legal Director. In response to mounting pressure, the Panjab Home Minister, Sukhbir Singh Badal, has announced suspension of the two officers and a magisterial inquiry into the incident. The action is however not enough to redress the issue of protecting the Sikh identity in Punjab. Earlier this year, the Chandigarh Police removed the turban of another Sikh who was a pillion rider in order to prove his Sikh identity, as evidenced in the video from a newschannel at: . "The Punjab Police officers cannot be allowed to get off lightly with a suspension. This incident is not isolated and there is a need for a root and branch reform of the Punjab Police Rules with respect to protecting religious freedom, " Mejindarpal added. UNITED SIKHS urges you to sign the petition for religious freedom in Panjab here You may read a previous press release on our advocacy actions for religious freedom at http://www.unitedsikhs.org/PressReleases/PRSRLS-27-02-2011-00.html Issued by Sundeep Kaur UNITED SIKHS law-global@unitedsikhs.org, +91 9560645010; +91 9779957973
  11. Im sure your a nice enough guy, but I just couldnt fathom your reply, the excuse just beggers belief. I mean, have you not heard of taking a holiday from work or god forbid maybe miss a uni lesson. Or better still maybe the British Parliment should start functioning on weekends so that apathetic UK Sikh Youth could attend. I hope members of Shera's family or anybody related to the Haryana mass graves dont use Sikh Sangat as this excuse would probably be quite offensive.
  12. I just really got into Sikhi about 4-5 months ago. Within this period there have been a number of very high profile and hugely tragic events/discoveries that have taken place. These include:- · Torture & and murder of Shaminder Singh (Shera) along with Sohanjit Singh. · Mass graves found in Haryana & continued human rights violations in India. · Sikh turban searches and removal in European airports. All this happened in 2011! I felt pretty impotent in terms of what I could really do in relation to the issues detailed above. Then my prayers were answered when I learnt that there was a UK Parliament Sikh Lobby initiated by the Sikh Federation and Sikh Council UK, which was going to discuss all the topics mentioned above. Finally we were going to discuss the issues that we cared about with government MP’s and ministers. Finally a chance to show that the Sikhs are not completely politically impotent at a grass roots level. I therefore decided to attend the event. There was a coach going to the event from my hometown of Leicester. On the coach there was roughly 30 people. Out of the 30 I would say that 75% of the individuals could not even speak the English language and were over the age of 65. The others could speak English to varying degrees but were all generally older gentleman. I was the only youth on that coach (and by youth I mean under the age of 35). I’m not knocking the older generation in any way, shape or form, because unlike the youth at least they attended. But I just assumed that individuals who attend lobbies will generally be the brightest and best from a certain community, or at very least be able to speak the English language and know about the issues in question. When we got to the Attlee Suite, the same trends continued. Out of all the attendees, I would say that there was not more than a handful of youth. It was like sitting in an old peoples home. The vast majority of the people who attended could probably not even speak English. So my question is, after the atrocities which occurred or were discovered in 2011 and all the media coverage of these events in Sikh Media, why can’t the UK Sikh youth be bothered to turn up to a very important government level communication event? Is no one bothered? I see thousands and thousands of very passionate and heartfelt words written about these atrocities on Sikh Sangat, but yet no troops on the ground willing to do anything about it.
  13. 4 out of 4000 victims recieve justice. Impressive figures by the Indian Judiciary, NOT!
  14. Ramdev is a nice enough guy and is educating the masses about useful yoga techniques and good luck to him. But end of the day the fact is that he believes Sikhism is not a religion and is a military sect of Hinduism. He will therefore use the great gem which is 'Sikh History' for his own purposes. To be honest, he cant use any relevant Hindu history as its primarily from thousands of years ago and mostly sounds mythical in nature, therefore nobody can relate to it. Its just clever poltricks.
  15. Free transport (coach) to Parliment from Leicester:- Venue: Guru Tegh Bahadhur Gurdwara 23 East Park Road Leicester LE5 4QD Time: 6:30 am Date: Tuesday 22nd March
  16. The lobby will cover the following issues:- 1) Respect of the Sikh identity (Sikh turban within airports and right to Kirpan issues) 2) Continued human rights violations in India (Haryana mass grave, Shaminder Singh Shera etc) 3) Uk governments engagement with British Sikhs. If you are concerned about the issues listed above, then here is your opportunity to discuss these issues with memebers of the UK parliment. Please attend the lobby to show your soladarity with your fellow Sikhs. We need to ensure that we can get a large number of youth to this event to show we mean business and to be taken seriously.
  17. Get It Done - Can you please also provide the links and the email addresses of the companies you want us to email.
  18. When Jarnail Singh was dismissed from his job he had many job offers from various panthic channels, he however dismissed them all as he did not want to become a pawn. Lets hope Manvinder Singh can get some assistance. Is this not the kind of news that the Sikh Channel should be reporting???
  19. Sikhs For Justice are doing an amazing job in trying to obtain justice for the victims of 1984, but the plain and simple fact is that you cannot obtain justice from the very people who perpetrated the crime. We have begged at the door of India for over a quarter of a century for justice for the victims of 1984. We can beg for another 25 years and nothing will happen. The simple fact is that if Kamal Nath et al get sent down, they will take all the others within government down with them i.e. most of the senior officials within the Indian congress party today. Most of whom are not even on the SFJ radar. So they are protected by this very fact, it is their get out of jail free card. Solution: Only a Sikh state run by Sikhs will safeguard the interests of Sikhs, nobody else will. And that’s just a plain and simple fact. The White Americans never safeguarded the indigenous American Indians, the white Australians never safeguarded the indigenous Aboriginal population etc etc. Hindu Brahims (high caste) make up 3% of the Indian population, yet they occupy 75% of all the senior government posts. Hindu Brahimns safe guard the interests of the high caste Hindu’s. They are so ruthless that they don’t even spare a thought for their Hindu brethren, the much suffering low caste Hindus (untouchables) who starve and die in their thousands. Conclusion Spend our time on more and more Sikhi parchar, Sikh Schools etc. Create millions of Singhs and singhnia throughout the world and try and obtain Khalsa Raaj.
  20. Sikhchic.com have now publicised a number of articles on their website. Good work! http://www.sikhchic.com/index.php
  21. FYI - Pyara Bhogul from Birmingham was on last weeks episode (Big Question Episode 8 - no longer available to view online) where they were discussing Karma and Reincarnation from a Hindu & Sikh perspective. Dont get me wrong he is a nice enough guy, but he made such a mess of explaining it. Most of the audience were actually giggling and laughing, it was such a Joke. Why do these individuals go onto national television when they are simply not articulate enough too debate under scrutiny. The Sikh Council need to own public relations. All this needs to go through them. C'mon Sikh Council step up!
  22. Isnt the Sikh Council meant to be dealing with the Media?? Also I would say its very different giving an inspirational speech to fellow Sikhs, as opposed being able to cope with the relentless scrutiny of a room full of educated, articulate, non believers who have no understanding of Sikhi. The guys who represents the Sikhs will need to be very sharp and also understand the mindeset of the people he is speaking to.
  23. What absolute nonsense! There is no evidence to suggest that there was ever or ever will be any major terrorism outbreak within the Sikh community, ts very easy to call people terrorists without providing evidence and actual numbers. However on the other side, Rahul Ghandi the Hindu prime minister in waiting admits that the major terrorism epedemic actually exists within the Hindu community and its the biggest threat that India faces.
