  1. The potential for life is still there. In the wild, all those eggs would be fertilized. And the reason we Indian's believe that milk is okay, is because people raised the Indians raised the cows themselves, so there was no animal cruelty. So now, we should make sure to get milk from organic, free range, places. Or otherwise if we stop milk usage, there will be no prasaad, as it is made from butter............. Eggs unfertilized or not, contain animal proteins, which are sort of like cannibalism.
  2. I think it is okay to keep the gutka sahib if it is not in good condition as long as it was not damaged with water or major beadbi. I think the only reason people do aghan bhet is because they cannot keep the birad saroop either because of lack of space/funds. So i think its okay to keep an old saroop, but this is just my opinion. Should check with others to make sure.
  3. How about the Hindi movie OMG or Oh My God....i heard its good.
  4. I wish ppl would realize building buildings and bigger and more expensive ones is not the answer. Wasn't there recently a $5 million annex just opened as well, in the UK? Instead the money should be used for parchaar, camps, scholarships, and donations.
  5. AMfj jyrj syqj kInI ]auqBuj Kwin bhur ric dInI ]8] a(n)ddaj jaeraj saethaj keenee ||outhabhuj khaan bahur rach dheenee ||8|| God has created life from eggs, wombs and perspiration. God has created mines of vegetables.
  6. We always ask the organizers of camps to call Bhai Sukha Singh, but it hasn't happened so far.........
  7. Recent lectures of Bhai Sukha Singh, How would you classify this (and other lectures he's done recently in August/September of 2012 in Australia, N3OSingh, I think you'll like this one )Also http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OF7CwRX9Jqo
  8. there are different alcohols. The one people use to get drunk is ethanol. There is methanol, which can kill and blind you. Then it''s ethanol. Then propanol, butanol, pentanol, hexanol, heptanol, octanol, etc. In organic chemistry, any compound with a oxygen and hydrogen functional group to it, is referred to as an alcohol.
  9. Turban symbolizes total surrender/commitment to Akal Purukh(God) and Sikhi, so if ur not willing to give up some things, then i would not recommend wearing the turban. As for the boys u mentioned.....two wrongs don't make a right.
  10. If anyone tries to do more tricks on you. Do mool mantar, Religion is true and it is beyond these minimal powers. It is about finding the real absolute truth.
  11. Pimsleur, the one that uses 'advanced technology' or something launched a learn punjabi language series: http://www.mrsikhnet.com/2012/08/02/pimsleur-launches-a-punjabi-learning-program/ You can listen to a sample free lesson (the link is at the bottom of the webpage i posted above). You can also try to only speak Punjabi with parents/friends and tell them to speak only punjabi with you. Also you should go to India and stay in a pind/village where noone speaks english. Or you should try to read Punjabi books/stories, so you can pick up grammar that way. Try reading them out loud with expression and slowly to understand what you're saying.
  12. A different perspective by IJSingh from his article Readers know well that I am not fond of government connected spokesmen from India. Why then did I remain silent and why do I raise this matter now? Because while these Indian government bureaucrats were present there were always movies or presentations on the injustice of 1984 that these people got to see. And that they need to do so. No compromise was ever made on that. I recall when Amu, a classic film on the injustice of 1984 was screened and its maker, Shonali Bose, honored with a standing ovation, the whole assembly of several hundred stood up – except the 3 or 4 Indian government people. If they felt embarrassed that is good; if they learned something that’s even better. But don’t hold your breath for it to happen. I remember when soon after 1984, a Sikh who was serving as a high ranking member of the Indian government wrote me a scolding letter. His theme was that by writing about the anti-Sikh pogroms of 1984 I was making life difficult for Sikhs in India. I reminded him that living in the United states I was expected to -- and free to – have an opinion about Vietnam, Rwanda, Apartheid in South Africa, race and gender issues, why then should I hold my tongue on issues in India – because I was born there? He did not answer but then he sought me out on his next trip to America to reassure me to keep writing as I was doing. Said he, “Keep doing it. We can’t and we need it.” I am reminded of Diwan Kaura Mull, a legendary Hindu or a Sehajdhari Sikh of the 18th century, who is even today remembered for his kindness and help to Sikhs during their worst times when their survival hung in the balance. But he served the Mughal government all his life, even in those difficult times. Someone like a mole he was but critically important to us, and we know it. A fundamental of a conversation or a civilized exchange is to listen some and speak some as the Guru Granth recommends (p. 661): “Jab lug duniya raheeyae Nanak, kitchh suniyae kitchh kaheeyae. The idea is not to rush to judgment. It isn’t always easy. But when the mind is made up one has effectively closed off any and all discussion. The mouth is then open in speech, the ears are sealed shut. Judgment should come after the evidence is in and some attentive listening has been done, otherwise it is Alice in Wonderland we are living in – sentence first and trial afterwards, if at all. Life isn’t all black or white; there is a lot of gray to it. I would let people do what they do. If what they do meets my approval I would celebrate it; if not, I would calmly explain why I disagree. But I would not undermine the good that they might attempt or attain. From disagreements, sometimes passionate, arise ideas and progress. But nothing remains written in stone and new generations of Sikhs who will lead these institutions in time will find different ways to express their passion of Sikhi. I close with an Americanism that I like very much and sums up my attitude precisely: Keep your friends close and your enemies closer .from Ij Singh's article:http://www.sikhnet.com/news/bafflement-our-many-splendored-reality
  13. You can buy some custom made straight kirpans from http://www.khalsakirpans.com/collections/straight-knives They also make the curved type, swords, daggers, switchblades. Kind of too focused on the art, but they take custom orders
  14. can u do something practical, like start a wake up call service via phone or start a network where ppl from certain areas call each other or get together for sangat........ or appoint a sevadaar for every area and gave them the seva for wakin up...... maybe after your series regarding the importance of amrit vela, you can offer these options, for those who wish they could
  15. You can sing in raag, but i don't know how you can read in raag. so i would assume if you're reading, it's not in raag. There is santhiya available for kuchaji, suchaji, and gunvanti banis, it's on the first page of this thread or find at gurmatbibek.com . No, Lavaan is not only for weddings. It is really about how to milap(unite) with the lord, so it's great to read this bani. And I heard that you will never reincarnate as a bhooth, no matter your karam, if you read Lavaan. (was told this when doing santhiya)
  16. matrimonial sites on akj.org and tapoban.org and also sikhnet matrimonials. Also attend smagams, there are a lot of amritdhari's there. imo, don't worry about it, ur only 22 that is so young........and just do ardaas/paath and let guru ji take care of it. If u let the guru do the karaj, it will be done best. I heard a story, that this girl would do ardaas and paath everyday to find a good husband. And her father told us that she got the best husband out of all his daughters..
  17. Laavan ( if you do them everyday, protects u from bhoots, or can't reincarnate as a bhooth) Ramkali Ki Vaar Basant ki vaar Kuchaji ( this bani is only one shabad/pauri long: http://www.sikhiwiki.org/index.php/Kuchajee) Suchaji (can be found on this link http://www.gurmatbibek.com/UserFiles/File/1168Kuchaji,%20Suchaji,%20Gunvanti.pdf) Gunvanti (discussed herehttp://gurmatbibek.com/forum/read.php?3,11274)

  21. No, reading on the phone is not bad. And reading on the tube to work in not disrespectful. As long as ur head's covered.....
  22. Hey...at least India has progressed to 'talking about the problem' instead of just declaring emergency in Punjab and arresting anyone who has an opinion. And they actually managed to 'gather all those concerned with the matter' Now they only need to learn to listen to other people view points. And maybe far (far far far) into the future they will learn how to respect other people's views and the let live concept............
  23. Source: heard it during santhiya session There was a couple. The wife went to work, while husband stayed home. One time the wife came home and the husband heard two sounds of footsteps. He went to see and saw noone but it seemed like the sound of footsteps followed her. He got spooked and started doing Mool Mantar out aloud and when he entered the room, where his wife was. He saw a boy with fire burning around his face. The boy said please keep reciting I find peace. The wife was scared and said who are you, how did u get here? The boy answered, "I was a Sikh like you, but go into bad sangat, got really depressed, and me and some other Sikhs decided to commit suicide together. We jumped off the bridge, and died.(it happened at a bridge famous in canada for commintting suicide.) Ever since then, we've been burning and it is so painful. But ur wife stopped at the bridge and she had this going on in her car. So i followed her to listen to it. It is soothing, it is the only thing that stops the fire. (I forget the ending. I think the Bhooth was exorcised, or its kalyaan was done with sehaj paath, or the story ends there...........don't remember sorry).
