  1. That's a fantastic and informative explanation !! We are not complete without it.
  2. People have made them into rituals. They request for them to be done and themselves don't follow through or listen through it.
  3. Can you please explain exactly what Guru Panth is?, as I'm under the impression we only have ONE Guru.
  4. Miri Piri academy is a prestigous place that produces some very gurmat sikhs. We should not be making assumptions and associating them with manmat practices. You don't have to be 3HO to send your kids there, any one from anywhere is welcome as long as the fees are covered. We should envy such an establishment because I certainly wish that I could have been educated there.
  5. Well this is all we need, the pakis are just to be considered as other regular offenders. The fact is that the pakistani men that pick young non-muslim girls are in every major town. They are normally taxi drivers or work in a restaurant and their fellow workers will be into the same thing. If it were a mixture of eastern men with pakistsani muslim, punjabi sikh and hindu's, then in all fairness they could claim that they are regular offenders which exist in every community, BUT these are offenders quite heavy in the muslim community only!!! Just because the goverment needs the pakistani votes, then they shouldn't be sympathetic to them.
  6. It's both the boys and girls, but it just hurts more when we physically see a girl with a hindu or gora. I blame the parents becuse they are either too busy making money for no one, because it only gets abused later, OR they are just too busy watching crappy indian tv channels and lose contact with reality. Don't blame the kids, blame the parents and blame ourselves. This is definitely going to get worse and will be on the rise with future generations to come. I can easily see that in 3 generations there will hardly be any true sikh families, where both parents, kids and grandkids all practice sikhi.
  7. Bhagat kabir explains the way of the world on page 1161 Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji. This is the only one mention of Baba Adam, the father of mankind. So, yes the Adam of the bible is not denied. ਮੋ ॥ Mo garīb kī ko gujrāvai. I am meek and poor - what chance do I have of being heard there? ਮਜਲਸਿ ॥ Majlas ḏūr mahal ko pāvai. ||1|| rahā▫o. 8. Where did the op say that she wants to wear it for fashion ? She just wants to start by wearing it a few days in the week. She obviously feels that she belongs to sikhism and then we are just making her unwelcome. How many paki girls do you see wearing hijabs and advertising islam ?? Isn't it better that the same paki girl then sees a sikh girl with a turban ? It doesn't matter if she's amritdhari or not. She will still be telling and showing everyone that sikh girls can wear turban as well.
  9. I have a question. Now, I was not born in india and have to learn about it from others. Is the sikh anand karaj ceremony formal enough to entitle you to a marriage certificate there OR do you end up with an 'indian or hindu' cerificate that stipulates the hindu marriage act of whatever year ? Is there a sikh marriage act ??
  10. I totally agree. She has every right to wear it if she feels like it. We can't have different rules for boys and different for girls. Some of the guys on here sound sexist, which is not gurmat philosophy at all. We have to remember that you can walk into plenty of pubs and bars there in UK and find turbaned singhs drinking and smoking. Do we tell them to take their turbans off ???? NEVER. - we just tut tut and then ignore them. You can go to any punjabi wedding on the weekend and you will find same turbaned singhs completely p****ed on liquor, does anyone say take your phag off ??? Then why do we make an exception for a girl who wants to just try and wear it casually and hoping that it can help lead the way for her ??? I suggest she go ahead and wear it as planned and then ask the lord for strength to help her move further on the path. Why the hell are we not encouraging some one who is 'TRYING' to come on the Guru's path ?? Too many hypocrites, that's what !!!!!
  11. I don't think it is 14 months because 14 months is actually the missing time period from documentation. Because between 1617 and 1619 (14 months in between somewhere), they know of other events and that he was also in prison some time within that period. Because 14 months is the time that can't be accounted for exactly by date, some have assumed that he was in prison all that time. This isn't actually correct because there were numerous other accounts that took place outside of prison within that time scale.
  12. I think this is the best response so far !! I don't think any source knows for sure BUTwhat they do know is that it was inbetweeen the years 1617 and 1619 and the period was NOT days or years but a matter of months which could be anything from 2 to 5. What matters is the significance and not how long he were there.
  13. Bir ras is has the foundation of 'Love' as it is practiced for the love of dharm, truth and rightousness. Whereas krodh has the foundation of hate mixed with ego and is rarely on the path of rightousness.
  14. This is an insult to the bitches, cows, goats and buffaloes. We can't insult the rest of creation because of some dikshit.
  15. Does not anyone think that Guru Gobind Singh Ji did NOT include his writings as in dasam granth into the SGGS out of humility. Maybe he felt that his writings were more for the practical khalsa warrior and would be out of place in the more spiritual Nanak based SGGS. Hence, he went further to say 'Guru maneyo granth' for the SGGS as this also contained the jyot that started at Guru Nanak. Because of this order by the guru, we shouldn't give such equivalent status to dasam granth but it still has the Guru''s bani and this should be respected in a high value accordingly by not undermining the SGGS. Therefore prakash can be done if one feels obliged but guru worship status should still be for SGGS.
  16. Nothing is wasted ever. If you think you have wasted your life chasing some false rainbows then you have in fact been learning all along. We move with the factor of time across this world ocean and we can ONLY GAIN as we porgress along. Even if we swim in the wrong direction, we are still gainiing and not losing. The lord does not punish or judge you differently in the way you experience your swim across.
  17. Good fair points and We should make the effort in resourcing the milk from more natural and humane sources. You mention that the eggs, no matter if fertilised or not contain animal proteins.- AND YES, this is a sort of cannibalism if we look at it in this manner BUT milk also contains the same animal nutrients, so we can't just ignore and make different rules for that can we ?
  18. I know it's difficult to see it like that because we have become conditioned into thinking this way. Yes the muslim and fish story is a joke,,because in non halal environments they go as veggie with fish !! That's their issue and I'm not going to debate here. However there are no goreh that follow this exception. A real vegan will NOT eat fish either. In my case, I feel guilty if I drink the mass produced milk from supermarkets where the animals have gone through cruelty. To overcome this I started getting fresh farm milk where the cow has not been pumped up to produce. A little like back in punjab. The problem is that I ended up with a few severe infections because of this risk, so what do I do ? Well it's safer for me to have the treated milk back in the store, but then again I'm cotnributing to the further cruelty. Bottom line is that it is better NOT to have milk and eggs if we really care. However, chaa and coffee is difficult to abandon, so it may be better to just have milk, ie.. to help cause harm to the cows only rather than cows and chicks if you were to take eggs as well. We should have a guilt factor for the milk consumption, if we don't then that is simply ignorace.
  19. I am one of those past students. I was trying to keep it all simple so that everyone can understand. On a scientific level, I can assure that as much cruelty goes in to milk supplying as goes in to getting your eggs. So I can't endorse eating eggs either but don't get the wrong impression that drinking milk is any better than eating eggs. Because this is the real misconception among us indians, alot of us falsely believe we are doing nature favours by drinking milk and not having eggs- This is wrong, and the damage is equivalent in both. Which is why many white and goras laugh at us when we say we are veggies that eat dairy !! We come across as half way picky people, who make our own rules on what we class as animal cruelty and what not. This is the real point to address and like I say it was white and gora folk that informed me of our crazy indian egg/milk myths !!
  20. It can't be fertilised once it's out. The egg comes out regardless. If a rooster is present then the egg will be ferilised if not then the same egg is simply eaten by the chicks and hens because it is nutritous. The real reason why we don't eat them is because of old hindu and indian veggie beliefs whereby milk and other dairy is allowed but not eggs. A real vegan does not have any animal products, so no cheese, milk, eggs, yoghurt..etc.. This is why we have this extra veggie term called 'HINDU VEG' when we order flight meals and in some restaurants. It simply means NO MEAT and NO EGG - but other animal products are OK. Do we just blame brahmin and vedic contributions for this ignorance or do we move forward and learn ?
  21. This is what we are saying- that it's NOT a fetus !! Sounds weird, I know, I only learnt of this within the last year and it got me thinking. You see it's just like the lining that develops in a human female. This lining is every 28 days and if no egg is fertilised then it is just a waste prodeuct that is eliminated ie.. the monthly bleed. So you undertstand that NO fetus is bled or eliminated. In the same way the egg is eliminated from the hen in their cyles which are something like one and a half weeks or similar Only IF a ROOSTER is present can they be fertilised and then will develop into chicks ! The points that a lot of strict vegans and vegetarians make is the cruelty in to keeping these hens for that purpose and just using their eggs for a couple of years and then killing them after,- HENCE, we have 'free range' where these conditons are not imposed. Their argument is that cow cruelty for supllying milk is worse because the milk is never given from mother to baby as nature intends but the mother cow is kept away from it's babies and used to supply us gallons and gallons of milk. After a few years this cow is also killed and used for meat !! So where is the real cruelty worse, the eggs OR milk ? This leads to some true strict gora veggie that claim there is less cruelty in just killing an animal from its natural environment and then eating it compared to rearing and maintaining one to use and abuse for supplying milk and then having a good weight on it for years to later use it for meat. In other words it is only kept healthy so that it can supply us milk and then later some good ounces of meat ! Where does that leave eggs ? Same kind goes on here. They keep these hens and chicks to be free and healthy supplying us their wasted eggs and then they too get killed for the meat !!
  22. If i'm not wrong,I believe that all the eggs available for purchase are non active or not fertilisable. This information was first given to me by some strict gora vegans who couldn't undertstand why I thought milk was fine and eggs were not. I soon learned that the cows are put through much more cruelty and strain in order to give us our daily milk than hens go through with eggs. The eggs on the supermarket shelves are all waste prodcts of the hens cycle as mentioned. The hen naturally produces these no matter what, although I need to check on which ones get induced or stimulated to produce more eggs which would mean tampering with their hormones. I'm not sure what the situation is with that and exactly what 'free range' means, but I will try and learn. Bottom line is don't feel so gulity if you have accidently eaten a cake or cookie with egg product in it because it is not what we make it out to be. However, we should all learn a little more to get a better understanding. If it's more to do with nature just like honey and bees are, then we need to educate ourselves about it.
  23. Yes the eggs we purchase are not embryo's and are not a would be life. They are a by product and are produced as per cycles of the hen. There is nothing cruel about taking them from the hen than taking milk for that matter. The problem is the lack of education and hindu vegan influences whereby eggs are not eaten with the false belief that a life is killed or stopped from producing. No one can justify or explain why you should not have eggs but you can take milk because of the lack of knowledge. What you do is up to you and gurbani does not say either way it is neutral on this issue.
  24. I must say that it is evidential that the yogi and 3HO have helped bring sikhism more mainstream in the west. Remember they have shown a more purer amritdhari front compared to punjabis. What I mean is, when ordinary folk come across the punjabi sikhs they see them in community and working as business owners, taxi drivers, doctors, ..etc..etc.. Now what they see is a complicated mixture because they see many many turbaned singhs drinking and playing cards in the park as well as the very disciplined amritdharies whereas the 3HO are ALL disciplined amritdharies. We have to remember that. But I have to agree with the rest of your post. They have been sidelined by us punjabis and they don't know any better so these statues and garlands turn up and they don't bat an eyelid because they don't think that way. We know very well that in punjabi community such a statue would not come anywhere near the sri Guru Granth Sahib ji, even if it were outside and you wouldn't see an amritdharie offering money to the statue either. We should try and educate each other without being too critical. After all we are ALL sikhs or learners.
