  1. what's the difference b/w booking online and booking over the phone??? i think if we're gonna petition against this we should also petition againt selling akhand paats to people who aren't even going to be there!! people who are sitting in canada getting an akhand paat done at darbar sahib....that's ridiculous... why not petition against the MAIN issue...which is commercialization of the akhand paats which has been going on for such a long time... in reality..there's no difference b/w online selling..or doing it over the phone...both are stupid stupid stupid....
  2. there's nothing wrong with having a gora name.. the meaning of the name is what is important i believe.... so if someone finds a name from a different culture, but conveys the meaning they want to convey, then by all means they should do it...
  3. bhennay... ever hear the saying..."little knowledge can be a dangerous thing" ? i think that applies.. do you guys think there's not enough Sikhi parchar going on?...if we actually look around..there's a TONNE of sikhi parchar going on..there are many organizations doing parchar in india AND abroad...plus we have all these websites and stuff.. YET.. we feel sikhi isn't spreading...which is true...but its not due to a lack of parchar...it's due to the fact that we have HALF BAKED ideas of what sikhi is...our parchar is lacking because we don't have the jeevans...our rehni and our kehni are not one and the same... none of us (or few..there might be some gurmukhs out there reading)...have even tasted the rus of naam...yes we all go to samagams, rehnsabaiees...but we don't have poora giyaan of bani, of sikhi...and that won't come with doing more research..because our intellect can only get us to the outer limits of the spiritual realm...ONLY simran, sharda, seva, and GURPARSAD will let us enter the spiritual realm...where all knowledge is absolute...where there's no foka, adhura, incomplete giyaan... yes...it is good to educate others... but what happens when people ask us questions we don't know about?...what happens when they ask you about the higher planes of spirituality...how can we answer that if we haven't experienced it... or how about if they ask us the meaning of "hukmay andhar sabh ko bahar hukam na koi" or any other tuk...have we lived those tuks yet? to be able to explain them? or will we just give the sahib singh definition...and hope that that satisfies them...as of yet..those definitions haven't satisfied me..and i hope they dont satisfy any of us..cuz if they did..our khoj would end right there...sahib singh ji has done a great job..but those translations can only take us so far..the rest will come from experiencing gurbani... if you try to convince me that pineapple juice is to die for... and then you yourself haven't tasted pineapple juice..how convincing do you think you're gonna be? now if someone else comes by and is drinking pineapple juice and is going nutz over it..the happiness of drinking juice is radiating...damn..i'm gonna wanna try that juice..hehe....
  4. how does everyone know that roses smell amazing... does the rose go and advertise about it's beauty? does it advertise it's fragrance? no...it just follows god's hukam and acts accordingly...it remains beautiful even among a garden of weeds and (my favourite part) gives of it's intoxicating fragrance freely to all, without discrimination...it gives the inherent fragrance gifted to it by God to a poor person, a rich person, black, white, brown, yellow, a good person, or a bad person...everyone gets to enjoy the divine fragrance of the rose....everyone gets to walk away feeling "oh what fortune to be a rose, oh what a gift from the Divine" similarly...if we look at the jeevans of True Gurmukhs...be it Bhai randhir singh ji, baba jarnail singh ji, sant attar singh ji, Bhai Jaswant singh ji (Bauji), prof puran singh ji, bhai vir singh ji...take your pick... yes..they all did a lot of parchar...from doing katha to building hospitals, to building schools...to writing books of divine inspiration... HOWEVER.. even without all that...these gems of guru ji...lived and breathed sikhi...their jeevans were soo immaculate...the guru nanak love shone in their faces, in their eyes...the divine presence surrounded them, permeated them, reflected off them, was absorbed by them... i know that when i used to go meet mahapursh...he wouldn't have to say "do this do this...this is what sikhi is"...seeing his smile..looking in the eyes of a gurmukh, we would be inspired that sikhi is a living religion, a divine religion, a religion of Shabad....we would be in awe of such a jeevan...and then realize that such a jeevan was made possible through SIKHI..the SIKHI that was started by Akal purkh when he came to the world as Guru nanak... and 9 more times in body, before giving us the gift of His presence till the end of time in the form of Guru Granth sahib ji, our shabad guru...we realize all this upon meeting a gursikh of Guru ji...for only a man of god can radiate divine love, divine inspiration.. how can we spread sikhi? well...for me the answer is.. to do sangat of Guru ji (reading bani, doing gurbani vichar), doing sangat of gurmukhs/mahapurshes/realized souls...whether it be physically doing sangat with them in presence of guru ji or reading their inspired writings or listening to their kathas, doing simran, seva, sangat with like minded individuals... keeping our thoughts in chardi kala...monitoring our panj vikaars..doing ardas to guru ji constantly to protect us from them... then... i am confident...once a strong jeevan is built up... parchar goes without saying...it happens automatically...a diamond sitting among a pile of rocks will always shine through..and be recognized ...likewise..a gursikh's aura will shine through and be recognized..and people will be drawn and ask how did he become that way? then parchar can happen...
  5. i'm against heera's house... too many pangay everytiime i go there... last time...i had to shower in pure freezing cold water...
  6. i'd love to come out... just can't commit yet...schedules a little wierd right now...
  7. not to take away from the original subject of this thread...but i really have to be suspicious of the accusation thrown out by sikh soldier that this is a gurdwara being built by the dodra sangat... i find it funny that he would just throw that out without anything to back it up and so early into the thread... could it be a deliberate attempt to cause tensions between people of varying sangats or jathas? it's stupid comments like the one thrown out by sikh soldier that creates rumours, misconceptions, and problems... as clarified by others, this gurdwara has nothing to do with the dodra sangat... the guy making the gurdwara is in no way shape or form connected to the sangat...he attends jatha programs way more than he attends sadh sangat... but i'm sure he's not formally connected to the jatha either...he's just a guy who goes everywhere...
  8. samagam was amazing...
  9. heera get your facts straight... i was there for at least 11 minutes...
  10. i couldn't stay for long but the time i spent there was truly amazing... i hope there's gonna be a next time
  11. it's not the gorays fault..for screwing up our names... it's OUR fault and our parent's fault... how? it's cuz we don't know PHONETICS!!! like my name is jasdeep... but most goray will say JAAZZDEEP but when i told my friend to replace the "a" with a "U"...all of a sudden he was saying jasdeep like a normal punjabi person... we need to smarten up the way we spell our names... my cousin is a smart guy... when he had his first son..before he officially named his baby..he spelt his son's name on a paper and would get random white people in NYC to read it...he had his bellman read it..he had his driver read it..his boss at work..the OB/GYN...everybody...and each time he'd make a change in the spelling to make them say the name properly... his kids name is sajan...which is what typical punjabis would use to spell it...but my cousin spelt it "saaajin"....and his kid has no problems with goray not being able to say it properly...
  12. i love how the bar owners association is represented by manjit SINGH abrol...hahaha oh lord have mercy
  13. thank you for that quote gupt dassan daas... i'd like to call everyone's attention on this quote as we will all notice that no where does it say not to look or talk to members of the opposite sex....it says simply to treat them as you brother or sister and maintain that respect....
  14. i think tarunjeet singh's approach is the most harmful of all... why? because...if people try to avoid people of the opposite sex...the more you try to physically avoid you're gonna find yourself thinking of them more...and that might lead to worse things than two people just being friends... also..i believe that when guys and girls interact in a healthy way, it takes away that whole "wonder" aspect of things and people just realize that guys/girls..its all the same and would lead to less problems.... if you look at countries where their culture is very strict on guys having nothing to do with girls...you'll also see that women's rights are really abused there...you might notice higher rates of rape and murder of women...why is that??? something to think about...
  15. maybe they were just using the yoga as an exercise at the camps...nothing wrong with that at all... are you saying that we should eliminate all other exercise at camps too???
  16. veerji/bhenji... all you really need to be blessed with amrit is the thirst to become guru ji's slave... if you are ready to put your head on your hand and give it to guru ji should he ever ask for it, then you are ready for amrit, if you are prepared to change the focus of your life from outward materialistic pursuits to the inward progression toward your soul and naam, then you are ready for amrit... if you are so in love with guru ji that you can't stop smiling...that you start laughing at random times, that you feel the pangs of separation from your guru...then you are ready for amrit... if you want to become the dust of the earth, if you want to become a flower who spreads the divine fragrance of guru nanak's divine love all over this world unselfishly to all people all times...then you are probably ready to take amrit... as for whatever smart singh said... yes...you'll need five kakaars...BUT your LOVE for guru ji will compel you to wear those punjabi???...no problems....if you LOVE for guru ji is sincere, HE will find a way to communicate with you...(ie..he'll teach you punjabi in no time...actually don't need to know punjabi...rather GURMUKHI)...i'd suggest getting an english gutka and working from there...you'll find that as time passes and you keep doing simran and seva...that when you do paath..the meanings will come to you in your heart....i'm not kidding.. memorizing gurbani....it's not a requirement...but again your LOVE for guru ji and guru ji's bachans will mean that you won't one to be separated from that ilahi (spiritual) treasure of guru bani... if you are ready for khameer da jeevan (a metaphore to the making of yogurt)...as you will receive naam when you take amrit through panj piyaraay...but that naam has to be cultivated through simran, seva, sangat...and by doing so...that small sip of amrit that you receive will transform every molecule of your body into amrit...every pore of your existance will ooze of amrit....if you are ready to cultivate that amrit...then don't wait another second....but if you aren't ready for that amrit...just like if when making yogurt, we don't take the right precautions and steps..the yogurt ends up being sour and spoilt...if we aren't ready for amrit and do not cultivate that naaam given to us by panj piyaraay, then our jeevans instead of becoming the embodiment of nanak love, may become sour themselves....
  17. sorry for cracking the jokes...my bad... my intention wasn't to poke fun at the actual act of doing parkarma...i was just poking fun at the concern of "logistics and rules" of the parkarma... sorry if i offended anyone
  18. word of advice heera singh... don't believe everything you hear...ESPECIALLY if it's about saintly people like mother theresa... don't you guys ever notice that we only hear dumb rumours about people who actually did seva???...it's such an annoying thing...
  19. anjaan... why would you want to torture yourself in that way????
  20. it all started during guru nanak dev ji's time... one time this sikh was doing sooo much simran...that he went into ecstacy and starting running circles around guru ji...then other sikhs thought..oh..that must be naam...so they started to run "naam circles"... through the years, as sikhi evolved, the "naam circles" evolved into a parkarma... (ps..the above was pure made up only for comic relief)
  21. smartsingh... you're talking about the parkarma for advanced level... i was describing the beginner parkarma...
  22. balwinder veerji.. i'm soo happy you're reading gurmukh sikhiya....that was one of the most amazing books i've ever read....
