  1. Bumping this old thread. Was reading it again - very interesting and informative those who commented before and/or live in W and E London eg @proactive @dallysingh101 @Kau89r8 @ipledgeblue @jkvlondonetc I remember the homelessness issue was quite big at the time. Is the issue basically gone now? And are there less apnian selling themselves? Are there less ‘freshies’ who are coming via ‘donkey’ route? I know many have done over from EU countries once they got their citizenship
  2. Lots of e-books which look interesting https://realsikhissues.co/wp-content/uploads/mybooks/
  3. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-kent-60880587 Priti Patel admits migrant phone seizures were illegal Published 1 hour ago The home secretary has admitted mobile phones were taken illegally from migrants as they arrived in Dover after crossing the Channel on small boats. Three migrants have won a High Court challenge against Priti Patel after they were arrested separately after being intercepted off the Kent coast. They were picked up between April and September 2020 and officials took their phones at Tug Haven in Dover. Judges ruled that the asylum seekers' human rights had been breached. They won their case after Ms Patel admitted their mobile phones were unlawfully seized under a blanket policy targeted at migrants crossing the English Channel. "Her initial stance was that there was no policy of the kind which is now admitted," the judges said. Data had been unlawfully extracted from two of the devices, and the phones were not returned to the migrants for months.
  4. I read it before I posted the link here. I’ve had quite a sheltered life in the suburbs and not been witness to much ‘street’ stuff, lol (or I’ve missed a lot of it under my nose!) ‘Lived’ experience is always a better teacher of lessons than second hand experience . I’m ‘bhola’ naturally, but I think the time I’ve spent on here, especially in the past 6 months has opened my eyes and mind more to the cruel realities of humans and the wider world out there. The Sangat here has taught me a lot. I’ve been aware of many of those issues caused by that ‘other’ community in the Uk towards the Sikh community for many years but reading it on the Net on a regular basis keeps those issues at the front on my mind. But I think there’s many lof our parents’ generation who wouldn’t believe or agree with the views in the e-book unless they or their close ones are affected. And they too easily believe what’s in the media and propaganda. Some of them are opening their eyes and minds up about issues in India/Panjab but not sure they see many of the societal and political issues around them In the West. btw, where do those “fellers who end up walking away because the bakwaas is too strong” go…?! Did you mean they just retire into family life ‘defeated’ by the lack of support/supportive attitudes from the community and Gurdware ?
  5. https://www.unsaiddigital.com/community-angry-schoolboy-hate-crime/ “Deepa Singh, from Sikh Youth UK, said: “We had been contacted by the family after it happened and sat down with all our local volunteers in that area and gurdwara leaders to help address this. “The Sikh-Muslim issues have been ongoing for many years and we have been addressing them as a community. We are starting to stand up and unite, this isn’t the only incident. Sikh females are being exploited and young Sikh boys are being targeted because of the faith we belong to, and as a community group we will continue to support those families who are victimised, and continue to help raise awareness about this because it’s vital that everyone is aware of how serious this is.”

Aleksandra Aukett, 44, claims she has been left with ‘life-changing’ chronic pain following the frightening attack by the youngster, identified only as X, who was described as being ‘big for his age’. Since the incident in March 2017, the assistant has not returned to the classroom at the west London school saying she still suffers from PTSD and depression as a result, and has to prop herself with crutches.
  7. Saw this at Gravesend Gurdwara recently. They have a mini gallery of Sikhs during the World Wars. My feelings on this are mixed. They also have a much larger gallery in the lobby area of Puratan Shaheeds and more recent Shaheeds from 80s and 90s

  10. Yes, I thought the name looked Sindhi The accused needs an interpreter apparently. What ?! So they had a relationship and he cannot speak/understand English ?! https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-60821181 A man has appeared in court charged with the murder of 19-year-old Sabita Thanwani at her central London student accommodation. Maher Maaroufe, 22, who is also accused of attacking a police officer, appeared at Highbury Corner Magistrates' Court.... Mr Maaroufe, who is a Tunisian national, was asked by the magistrate if he understood proceedings. Mr Maaroufe shook his head. Mohammed Zeb, defending, told the court he would explain it to his client after they left the courtroom and that at future hearings "there should be an interpreter for the Tunisian Arabic dialect".
  11. Another one metro.co.uk/2022/03/20/i-realised-id-been-catfished-when-i-flew-to-singapore-and-she-wasnt-there-16274216/amp/ I only realised I’d been catfished when I flew to Singapore and my girlfriend wasn’t there AnonymousSunday 20 Mar 2022 1:00 pm “After five hours of sitting there on my own, the penny finally dropped: this person wasn’t real. I had been catfished” In the end, I had sent at least £20,000. I am still fighting my case to get my money back from the bank who have said they cannot pay me back the thousands I had transferred across. They’ve said that it’s my fault, and that I should have known that the person wasn’t genuine. The whole ordeal left me distraught, mentally broken and with constant, churning stomach pain. My health has suffered, and so have my family, as they felt embarrassed about what the Sikh community would say if they found out. I got myself into debt to help a person who didn’t exist. I changed my life to be with someone who wasn’t real. I was in a bad place for a long time, as a result of what happened to me. Last year, I finally met someone from Canada through the Shaadi dating app. She is Sikh but even after falling in love, I still wasn’t able to trust that it was real until we met in person. After 10 months of dating, I married my now wife. I am happy, but I do still have doubts as she is still in Canada and the process will take some time for her to come to the UK. Being catfished was something that I thought never existed until it happened to me and broke me. I was vulnerable, blind and naive. The world of dating has changed and so many are using dating apps, without a second thought.
  12. Saw her speaking on news yesterday. She looks very well for someone who was in ‘prison’! If it were me, I’d want to rest at home for a couple of weeks.
  13. @kcmidlands is from Leicester and might know more Leicester was the first British city to become majority non -white. theguardian.com/world/2010/jan/02/leicester-minority-immigration-diversity-faith it has been known for a long time as a ‘Gujarati’ area but I think the Sikh community there is old also. I don’t there were many Muslims there pre-2000, but seems that number is increasing.
  14. Nope, they deal with media-related issues
  15. 22 years https://www.sikhiwiki.org/index.php/Chittisinghpura_Massacre Chittisinghpura Massacre The Chittisinghpura Massacre refers to the cold blooded murder of 35 Sikhs, which occurred on the evening of March 20, 2000 at small Jammu and Kashmir village called "Chittisinghpura". The massacre was carried out by about 20 unidentified terrorists, though a member of the Islamic Fundamentalist militant group Lashkar-e-Toiba ("LeT") has confessed to the group's involvement in the massacre. Many people have doubts about the validity of the confession, some wondering if it was obtained under duress. One person recently remarked even the innocent have confessed to crimes when tortured. According to Amnesty International, the massacre was linked to other massacres in the region where the people have doubted the government's account of the story. A link to Amnesty International: 1 Several witnesses have said that about 20 men, clad in olive green combat fatigues, arrived in the village at 7-15 p.m. They told the people that they were Indian soldiers, and ordered the men out to be questioned. The captors spoke Urdu. The village men were lined up in two groups, a few hundred metres from each other. One of the captive men who had been lined up recognised someone among the gunmen. He asked, "Chattiya, tu idhar kya kar raha hai?"("Chattia, What are you doing here?"). The person he spoke to immediately opened fire. At the same time the other captors began firing. As they started firing, the gunmen shouted 'Jai Mata Di' and 'Jai Hind'. In theatrical fashion, one of them took swigs from a bottle of rum even as the killing went on. While leaving, one of the men called out to his associates: "Gopal, chalo hamare saath" ("Gopal, Come with us").
  16. Great topic @SikhKosh I think Equality in Sikhi can be exemplified through: Langar, Khalsa Sajna Divas, Maharajah Ranjt Singh's Darbar treating Hindus and Muslims well and appointing them based on their competence rather than Religion alone. Warrior/Sipahi/Integrity Aspect of Sikhi (too many to mention all) but some that come to mind immediately are : Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji's Shaheedi, various battles fought by Sikh Fauj post Dasam Patshah, rescue of Hindu women from Afghanistan I think the more someone learns of Sikhi, the more they would be impressed

  20. still doesn’t give clear picture for me, but update below www.hindustantimes.com/cities/chandigarh-news/canada-man-behind-kabaddi-player-s-murder-4-held-101647720064831-amp.html Published on Mar 20, 2022 01:31 AM IST ByHT Correspondents Jalandhar/Chandigarh: Five days after an international kabaddi player was shot dead in Jalandhar district, Punjab Police on Saturday arrested four men involved in conspiring the crime. Sandeep Singh Sandhu, alias Sandeep Nangal Ambia, and popularly known as “Gadiator”, was killed by five unidentified assailants during a kabaddi match at Mallian village in Jalandhar on March 14. Police said Sandhu was murdered at the behest of Canada-based Snover Dhillon, who was running the National Kabaddi Federation of Ontario, over professional rivalry.
