The former chancellor will create new laws to target members of child sex abuse rings and set up emergency task forces in towns and cities where they have taken hold. Writing in today's Daily Mail, he also warns that fears over racism must not deter the fight against grooming gangs, after an inquiry revealed that police failed to tackle widespread abuse by south Asian men in Telford for fear of looking 'politically incorrect'. In a separate move, Mr Sunak will make it a crime for men to take intimate photos of women without their consent. 'Sexual violence against women and girls should be treated as a national emergency until it has been defeated,' he said last night. 'As a father of two girls, I want them to be able to go for a walk in the evening or to a shop at night without any fear of threat.'.....
  2. https://www.spiked-online.com/2022/07/20/stop-calling-them-asian-grooming-gangs/ Stop calling them ‘Asian’ grooming gangs This is just another way of obscuring the truth about the ethnicity of most of the perpetrators. HARDEEP SINGH 20th July 2022 Last week’s landmark report into grooming gangs in Telford made for truly horrifying reading. It revealed that 1,000 mainly white girls had been subjected to horrific sexual abuse by groups of men of mainly Pakistani heritage since at least the 1980s. Share TopicsIDENTITY POLITICSUK Last week’s landmark report into grooming gangs in Telford made for truly horrifying reading. It revealed that 1,000 mainly white girls had been subjected to horrific sexual abuse by groups of men of mainly Pakistani heritage since at least the 1980s. Tom Crowther QC, who chaired the Telford inquiry, said that ‘the overwhelming theme of the evidence has been the appalling suffering of generations of children caused by the utter cruelty of those who committed child sexual exploitation’. He then went on to say that the failure of the authorities to intervene was in part driven by ‘a nervousness that investigating concerns against Asian men, in particular, would inflame racial tensions’. ‘Asian’ men? This is an odd description of the perpetrators. Crowther pulled almost no punches in his summing up. But this was definitely one he did pull. The members of the grooming gangs were not simply ‘Asian’ – by and large, they were Muslim men of Pakistani heritage. This was not a mere slip on Crowther’s part. The report contains nearly 200 or so references to the ‘Asian’ members of grooming gangs. And subsequent media coverage of the report has generally repeated its characterisation of the perpetrators as ‘Asian’. ‘Asian’ is a deliberately vague and non-specific descriptor for men identified as being largely of Pakistani heritage. Referring to these perpetrators of organised child sex abuse as ‘Asian’ is as absurd as referring to the German perpetrators of the Holocaust as ‘European’. It gives the impression that grooming gangs might have been full of men of Chinese, Korean or Japanese heritage. It suggests that members of Britain’s Sikh and Hindu communities might have been heavily involved, too. While grooming-gang victims have tended to be white British girls, the gangs have also sometimes targeted Sikh girls, as they did in Leicester. What’s more, some of the white victims of grooming gangs have told me themselves that the sexual abuse had a racial and religious element. The perpetrators would refer to them as ‘white slags’ and claim that ‘white girls and non-Muslim girls are bad because [they] dress like slags’. Characterising these wicked men only as ‘Asian’ obscures one of the motives for their actions – that, as far as they were concerned, those they were abusing were non-Muslim and therefore fairgame... To describe them as Pakistani is to risk accusations of Islamophobia and racism. Indeed, we need only recall the experience of the Labour MP for Rotherham, Sarah Champion. In 2018, she wrote an op-ed for the Sun addressing the ‘problem [of] British Pakistani men raping white girls’, in reference to the Rotherham grooming-gang scandal. She was subsequently accused of being Islamophobic and was forced to quit the shadow cabinet. Given the treatment of Champion, you can see why many in the public eye opt, in the interests of self-preservation, to describe Pakistani grooming-gang members as ‘Asian’ – if indeed they talk about the issue at all....
  3. I think the Dads might be able to do a reasonable job in protecting their daughters, but it will also require the Mums to be open about the issues that their daughters need to be wary of I'd prefer they don't have to learn the hard way ! 'Freshies' attend the Gurdwara in high numbers, right? Having talks a few times a year to raise awareness would do something at least. Also, how much of the 'them vs us' attitude that 'Freshies' might have is because they are aware that many of the earlier settled generations in the UK, have 'looked down' on them? Maybe we should stop labelling them 'Freshy' and use a more neutral term?
  4. How do you know? maybe it was 'Massard' (Maasi's husband).... assassinating people....?! ?
  5. I agree, these 'freshie' families won't know what has gone on here unless it's made very clear to them, I have said it before
  6. I put the term "low" in speech marks, to show it is not my belief, but just how the labels are used. Why have you mentioned your own 'caste' so many times here ? Why have you also singled out 'chamaars' ?
  7. Sikhs should not be victims often, even if elderly Need to build the street reputation to make others think twice Black folks don’t have this happen to them from other communities much because they are feared
  8. I didn’t say there is no racism in the Uk or that there is no casteism in Panjab. I have family back home involved in politics so I have primary sources for my info as well. I think with all respect, you are the one ‘talking shyte’ here. Again, to address directly the main points of the original post of this thread, it’s not just jatts in high positions and there are already quotas. I agree casteism is a major obstacle for Ekta in the Panjabi Sikh community. But, for example, more qualified people from ‘higher castes’ (including Tarkhans I think) cannot get jobs or university places because they go to the ‘scheduled castes’ first .
  9. Akaal Takht Jathedar is from a ‘low caste’ Same with recent ex-Chief Minister Channi. There have been quotas in place for many years to ensure ‘lower castes’ get many reserved political seats and (from my understanding) the same with senior Religious positions. Same for government jobs and university places in general. You have made a topic and points here which are quite inaccurate and misleading
  10. Is it worth it? Or is it better to keep your head safe unless you really have no other immediate choice ? Also, I just looked on the BBC News India section and this news is not reported ! And, on a slight tangent, why not choose a more ‘humane’ way of killing an ‘enemy’ like stabbing the trunk (like happens a lot in London) or garrotting?

Laurie Kavanagh, 37, watched Chelsea and Manchester United play in the Premier League on November 28 last year. He watched them play out a 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge and then left, but started to become drunk and aggressive. Kavanagh, who has been head of residential sales for estate agents Myddelton & Major in Salisbury since 2020, also threatened to rape a female police officer. Southwark Crown Court heard how the defendant was initially asked to leave the area before police were forced to tackle him to the ground. Kavanagh had shouted: ‘I’ll bring a pack of pikies round your house and rape you.’ He kicked out at officers and shouted at a police sergeant he would ‘send his boys round his house’ to kill the officer and his family. He boasted about his £50,000 a year salary and told officers he paid their wages. When he was put in the back of a police van he then started verbally abusing PC Harjod Premi, calling him ‘the Muslim c*** with a turban’. PC Natalia Burke told the court in a victim impact statement: ‘I was the only female officer on the scene and the verbal abuse was focused on me. ‘It disappointed me that my gender appeared to be at the heart of the issue and was used against me in this way.’ Kavanagh, representing himself, said: ‘I accept that my behaviour was completely unacceptable and I am extremely remorseful. ‘I have made the biggest mistake of my life and I have severely compromised my career. I apologise to you and the police.’
  12. I think we need someone like @Ranjeet01 who knows NY well to give us an opinion. I have no idea , but probably it’s not the only affordable place The article doesn’t say the demographic of the killer
  13. If it was ‘execution style’ killing, then it’s less likely to be race/hate-related. possibly it could be related to criminal rivalry
  14. www.opindia.com/2022/06/sikh-man-shot-dead-execution-style-in-new-york-south-ozone/amp/ Sikh man shot dead ‘execution-style’ in a New York neighbourhood, the area had previously seen hate crimes against Sikhs in April OpIndia Staff | 27 June, 2022 On June 25, a 31-year-old Sikh man was shot dead in New York in the South Ozone Park area. According to media reports, the deceased identified as Satnam Singh was shot ‘execution-style’ while sitting in a jeep near his home on Saturday afternoon. Singh was rushed to the hospital where doctors declared him dead. The New York police informed that the incident happened near the South Ozone Park neighbourhood, next to Richmond Hill where three other Sikh men, in two separate incidents, had been attacked in the month of April. This incident is the fourth such incident of crimes against Sikhs that took place around New York’s Richmond Hill area, in the last three months. Both Richmond Hill and South Ozone Park have large numbers of people of Indian origin. As per media reports, there was a discrepancy between the police and eyewitness accounts of Satnam Singh’s killing. According to the New York police, the shooter came on foot and shot Singh as he sat in the jeep, but a neighbour said the assailant had fired from a car. The neighbour confirmed that her home security camera had captured the incident.

This is the subject of Gurinder Singh Mann’s forthcoming book – ‘The rise of the Sikh soldier: The Sikh warrior through the ages, 1700-1900’. Mann, a London-based historan and director of Sikh Museum Initiative in the United Kingdom, says the reason the book is special is because it doesn’t limit itself to male Sikh soldiers, but lavishes much attention to women warriors as well. Two figures that Mann is particularly fond of are Rani Sada Kaur, head of the Kanhaiya misl, and Sahib Kaur, the prime minister of Patiala…. The book, which will be out in June, also dedicates a chapter to Sahib Kaur, who became the prime minister of Patiala at the age of 22, and went on to lead several battles, including one in which she beat back the Marathas at Ambala in 1794. “So compelling was her persona that she was able to get the support of all misl leaders. She even had people like Baghel Singh, founder of the Karorasinghia Misl, support her,” says Mann.

The upcoming film, which is an Indian adaptation of Tom Hanks’ Forrest Gump is one of the highly anticipated films in the world today. I am very curious to see how Tom Hanks’ reacts after watching the film. He is a wonderful actor”. Interestingly, Aamir Khan had once met Tom Hanks during a meeting with Steven Spielberg. Back in the day, Spielberg was filming a film along with Forrest Gump star Tom Hanks in Germany. Spielberg further introduced Aamir Khan to Tom Hanks and referred to him as “James Cameron of India.” The Jurrasic Park director called him Cameron because Aamir Khan is also known for breaking his own box office records. However, Hanks made it clear that he knows Aamir Khan and is familiar with his work as he revealed he has watched his 2009 film 3 Idiots as many as three times. Laal Singh Chaddha’s slow-witted approach and childlike optimism have created a major impact on the minds of the audience. The Hindi trailer is currently being showered with immense love and affection nationwide.
  19. First question. Is non-Gurbani music against Rehit of being Sikh? Second. What is the ‘proof’ from a Sikhi perspective of this? I personally think listening to most music outside of Gurbani or Dharmic non-Gurbani does more harm than good. Obviously some music is ‘worse’ than others with damage/influence to the Psyche and influence on our thoughts and behaviour But, if I was to explain this from Sikhi perspective to someone challenging me (Sikh or non-Sikh) how would I summarise it?
  20. Not a 'crazy' one, but reminder of how bad the time was. Don't know if they were landowners
