  1. Sure. As a precaution. But I don't think that would a major concern because you can easily tell the use of new paper and new ink and rebinding.
  2. Are you serious? Can you post a link to that? Amazing that people are willing to buy and sell such portions of our heritage. I don't know who is worse, the seller or the buyer. Was it stolen? What about the buyer? People who would spend money to keep something that they are not entitled to (as opposed to things that Guru ji themselves gifted to various families) and then keep them in secret as talismans of a sort or good-luck charms for their families.
  3. Where did you get that he wants to make someone's life a living hell? He specifically wants a compatible, Amritdhari girl in order not to make her life a hell. He could just marry some random non-Amritdhari girl, he could marry a girl from Canada, but, no, he's trying to get a compatible girl. What's wrong with that? Wow, what's wrong with you? Leave out the "dozens" and insulting phrasing rephrase as: "Life is not only about producing children" Wrong. That's ALL life is about. That's the reason you're here today. The reason the West's population is decreasing is because they've forgotten that. So horrible that Sikhs are aping Westerners in this regard. I do agree that you should dedicate your life to Sikhism, but our religion explicitly is a religion for householders and does not encourage celibacy.
  4. woah..these are dangerous words bro - theres a reason why genuine amritdhari couples revolve themselves around guruji, not each other, four times during anand karaj.. a lot of apne, amritdhari or not, still think like this and end up being controlled and manipulated for the rest of their married lives - might as well see themselves as a little dog on a leash.. imo a so called 'singh' can be tamed by their so called 'kaur'..in good times and bad..but they should never be controlled by them. There's a funny story in the Sau Sakhi where Guru Gobind Singh ji asks some Sikh where his Sikhni is, and then he asks the woman where her Sikh is. Thereby demonstrating that the man is a Sikh (follower) of the woman. And vice versa. So, point taken.
  5. Don't be a gora. It's common for Punjabis to refer to male matches as "boys" and female matches as "girls". Your prefrontal cortex is not even fully developed until age 25. Traditional cultures intuitively know that. Westerners don't know it until they have a 100 scientific studies. The fact is that both boys and girls need the guidance of their parents or in-laws in the time after marriage.
  6. Wow, that's a lot of work by Tejkaran Kaur. I have to say, though 1) it's a bit presumptuous for a 20-year old to claim one's own opinions as being "A little deeper", implying that Prof. Sahib Singh was completely superficial. I say that even though I'm not a blind fan of his translation. A little humility is in order, both for traditionalists commenting on Prof. Sahib Singh, and for missionaries commenting on Taksali/Nirmala works. "A little deeper" would be inappropriate even if she had put in a lifetime of learning, teaching, and practicing of Sikhism, which she certainly hasn't. "My thoughts" or "Some more vichaar" would have been better. 2) People should avoid thinking that Prof. Sahib Singh's commentary is the one and only commentary on Guru Granth Sahib. New learners should read other commentaries, too. Good effort, of course.
  7. No, there isn't, in the way they mean it. Granted, Gurbani says you need a guru. But that the Radha Swamis give the wrong meaning of that to say you need a "living" guru. Of course, though, our Guru is living. What they mean is a Guru made of flesh and bones. If they are saying the meaning of this is that there is a Satguru in every age (jug), then there still is a Satguru ... Guru Granth Sahib ji. It's fine to say that there is still Satguru. Where in Gurbani do they get that Satguru's name is Gurinder Singh Dhillon (the current Radha Swami guru)? Yeah. Tell them, so? You can't find God without a guru. But the only guru worth having is the Satguru (true guru). Gurinder Singh Dhillon is definitely not it. "Without the True Guru, there is not another Guru, and the one without the Guru has a bad name." p434 Ask them to prove that Gurinder Singh Dhillon is the Satguru.
  8. Read Guru Granth Sahib bani Read Dasam Bani Practice Gatka or develop physical strength
  9. Read it. I agree that every historical event has multiple causes. And Chandu was the immediate cause of Guru ji's Shaheedi. It was by his immediate hand or command that the Shaheedi happened. At the same time, it wouldn't do to absolve Jahangir or the Muslim kazis who encouraged Jahangir. Especially given Jahangir's own testimony written by himself.
  10. I have no idea what this video is even supposed to be about. That a few Pakistanis look better than some Indians? Funny enough, one of the examples they give is actor Shah Rukh Khan for Indian. (He's a light-skinned Muslim.)
  11. Do know that everything that Bhai Kahn Singh Nabha writes should not be taken as the absolute truth. Even more so in translation. Then you have no idea what is even being referenced.
  12. Wow, Mahankosh is available in English now? That's great, thanks a lot for the links. Two niggles: 1) the scan by Sikh Book Club is very low resolution. If they were going to scan it, why not just scan at higher resolution? The problem is when you have to increase the zoom to read some words, you can't make out some of the vowel markings. The higher resolution, the easier it is to read letters (whether on the screen or on paper). 2) for some reason the typesetting at Punjabi University wasn't proofread so where they give quotations from Gurbani, in some places they are not Gurbani, but rather the English letters that would correspond to the font.
  13. No, I think it can and should always be under scrutiny. In fact whitewashing your name by donating to religion is a time-honored way for people with ill-gotten gains to absolve themselves of their sins. (Not saying he has ill-gotten gains.) Of course that's a good thing. Yet we all know that there are bad people with beards, too. (Badal & company, for example.)
  14. Sucks. Horrible. In fact, I think it would be better to do something for our brothers and sisters in Pakistan than to destroy the Gurdwaras and rebuild them with marble.
  15. Yeah, if someone wants to spend their own money, whatever. But don't ask the Sangat to marble the floors of the Gurdwaras in Pakistan. I actually rather like the charm of the old-style construction.
  16. They'll probably raise it by guilt trips on Sikhs who don't regularly go to Gurdwara.
  17. So I would like the SGPC to produce those manuscripts. Where are they? Did they sell them off surreptitiously?
  18. Exactly. Destroy the centuries old buildings that sangat has been having darshan of. Spend money and funnel $$$ to Pakistani stone dealers and contractors. In the end for it to be taken over by the Muslim neighbors of the Gurdwara. Brilliant how apne think.
  19. So sad. Sikhs were not forcing our religion on the Muslims. What's their problem with us?
  20. Right. And also, thinking that some writing will upset the applecart may be a problem if we uncritically accept documents. Just because someone (whether a Moghul or Sikh) wrote something does not make it true, certainly not the level of Gurbani. Humans always write with their own flaws, limitations, and also agendas. This is true whether we're talking about Sikh history or Japanese, Chinese, Russian, or whatever history.
  21. Maybe, maybe not. It's hard to know for sure exactly what every single Sikh thought. But it's hard for me to believe that the sudden and forceful change that was brought about in the Sikh panth by Guru Hargobind ji could be ascribed to a mere personal dispute. If the sangat truly thought that Guru ji's shaheedi was merely due to a personal grudge, it's hard to see the sangat supporting Guru ji's military direction. It would have been seen as a wild overreaction. I think that elders (remember, Guru ji was very young at that time) would have counseled caution, just as some people tried to during the first Khanda-Amrit ceremony. In reality, objections, if any, did not stop militarization because people realized that the Mughals were out to get us. Granted, we didn't have excerpts from Jahangir's memoirs to pass around on social media, but somehow or another, word got around. You don't think that no news ever got passed around then, do you? On the other hand, I do see it as plausible that the Chandu story might have been played up by misinformed preachers after Guru Gobind Singh ji. Just as a whole bunch of other problems and wrong thought cropped up during the Sikh Raj, British Raj, and post-1947 India.
  22. This entire debate is pointless, regarding which places are clean and which aren't. Originally, Anand Karaj's were held by doing parikarma around Guru Sahib themselves. Guru Sahib did not go to people; people came to Guru Sahib. Later, at some point, people started bringing Guru Granth Sahib to their homes to perform weddings. Recently, people starting taking Guru Granth Sahib to hotels and such, which was considered a step too far. So it was collectively decided that if you want to be married, you have to Guru Sahib, not make Guru Sahib come to you. It simply does not matter what the parts per million pollution is in the air where you want to have your "destination wedding." If you want to have a "destination wedding," have the wedding in a Gurdwara, then have the reception at the beach. Problem solved.
  23. Agreed. The problem in the West is that they have started to worship the Artist. Art was meant to uplift people's thoughts and hearts. Now, it's entirely meaningless and pointless.
