  1. If I am not mistaken, he is one of Anjum Choudry's boys. He should do what Abu Ramaysah did and pack his bags and leave for ISIS lands.
  2. Administrators - I think that it would be best to lock this thread.
  3. Nihal is not that young, he is well into his forties. He is just another coconut, infact most of these "Asian" BBC presenters fit into this criteria. Traditiinal radio is old, we need some Sikh based "podcasts".
  4. Jagsaw The conversation is about Kirtan and the role of Mirasi in Kirtan. Just wondering if Mirasis would be the only muslims that would read Bani.
  5. From what I recall in pre-partition Punjab, there were a group of Muslims that used to read bani at the Gurdwaras. I only know this because there was a partition era drama that used to be on TV about 20 or so years ago. If anyone knows more about this, please post.
  6. JSinghz What I am saying is that Caste consciousness exists in all "castes" not just the Jatt. The example of what I have provided from my observations is the caste issue is one that is overamplified when the reality the vast majority of the sangat in my opinion do not discriminate between caste when entering a gurdwara. The only real issue with caste the way I see it are 2 things: marriage in some cases which is changing now with the younger generation and gurdwara committees.
  7. "If there are issues with Sikhs in the UK Integrating with other Sikhs and being accepted, this is usually to do with the Jat community who dont wish to integrate with other Sikhs. Growing up in London with a big Bhatra community and living alongside a large Ramgharia community we both have got along very well. Infact the main temple that serves our area is very large Ramgharia Gurdwara and Bhats form half the congregation if not more." I have to take exception to the fact Jats do not integrate with other Sikhs. In my local Ramgharia gurdwara there are plenty of Jats that are part of the Sangat. I have seen many Anand Karaj where one spouse is Jatt or both Jatt at the Ramgharia gurdwara. Jatts are used as convenient whipping boys by some non Jatts. If anything some non Jatts are more caste conscious than Jatts are.
  8. Bhatra community it seems is an older Sikh community and it seems that they would arrived by boat. It seems that for this reason they would be based in port based coastal cities and towns. The later Sikhs would have based themselves in more industrial areas. The reason why there are Sikhs in the Southall area is because of a Rubber Factory which was owned by some ex military person who served with many Sikhs. I presume that Birmingham and West Midlands again attracted Siks due to the abundance of factory/assembly work.
  9. Problem with "agnostic" Sikhs is that their view Waheguru from an Abrahamic framework. They have been conditioned by the western mindset, they need to consider things from a Dharmic mindset.
  10. They are not gods but Avatars. I believe that there is acknowlege of them being entities but if you are focused on the Akaal Purakh which is the ultimate reality and force that binds the universe together, you would not be bothered if they existed or not.
  11. Deepmangatsingh Are you able to substantiate that nine out of ten protests are Sikh female-non Sikh male interfaith Anand Karaj. How many weddings in gurdwaras have been disrupted.Has there been any statistic analysis provided to prove that there have been a growing number of disruptions or has this been blown out of proportion by particular vested interests with particular agendas.
  12. Shocking view about Leon Green on the facebook, who is an atheist and wants to go through the Anand Karaj which is contradictory. Nothing stopping them from getting married but it makes a mockery of our traditions. I think somewhere down the line the "Sikhs" that follow this viewpoint are going to come back with their tails between their legs when they come to realise that they are being led down the wrong path.
  13. I fully support this by @sunny_hundal "Why British Sikhs must oppose the ban on inter-faith marriages at Gurdwaras" http://t.co/t0b9oMaDH7 No surprise on the views of Sunny Hundal & Bobby Friction on this matter.
  14. I would encourage all Sikhs to eat more raw vegetables, particularly green leafy vegetables such as Kale and Spinach. I am not talking about Saag, but actually eating it in it's raw form if possible. If you find this difficult, I would suggest investing in a decent blender/juicer such as Vitamix or Blendtec. If you find these too expensive, purchase nutri bullet and make yourself a green smoothie. It does not take too long to make and you feel great afterwards.
  15. Problem is most vegetarian Sikhs are not really vegetarians but are grainatarians.
  16. Will there be a shift towards AAP in Punjab, my understanding is that they had made inroads.
  17. Ghetto Sikh Perhaps the Sikh community in Calgary could invite Bhai Mohan Singh from Sikh Awareness Society.
  18. In 10-20 years,( if this carries on ) it will make people take things into their own hands when push come to shove and the authorities try to brush everything under the carpet. This will mean that the gloves coming off.
  19. The reason this grooming is happening is because it has been ignored by the powers that be. If you look at Rotherham case, there have been 1400 girls that have been groomed ( tip of the iceberg), what has been coming out is that these cases were reported to South Yorkshire police and they did nothing. The social services were also aware and they did nothing. One thing to note is that the girls were from white working class backgrounds.
  20. Why are those Khaki shorts up towards their armpits and they have the skinniest legs.
  21. SSD Sikhs are merely sparrows that became hawks and seem to be reverting back to sparrows again.
  22. This will help to understand a few things: http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Babington_Macaulay,_1st_Baron_Macaulay
  23. In the 50s and 60s, most of the heroines were Muslim such as Meena Kumari and Nargis, nowadays there are few Muslim actresses in Bollywood. In those days, anyone with the name Khan such as Yusuf Khan would call themselves Dilip Kumar. There seems to be a role reversal.
  24. It is all about perception. In the early part of 20th century, boxing was dominated by Jews as well as Basketball. It was theorised in the U.S. that Jews were physically superior like how African Americans are considered now.
