    Navratri

I do apologise for bumping this really old thread, however this is one of the top results appearing in Google when searching for sikh navratri. Therefore I am posting this reply in case someone comes across this topic using Google (or perhaps other search engines):
  2. Just posting this up to make it easier for sikhs to find out about how we are meant to celebrate Navratri and Dusshera. There is actually something similar for Diwali as well where Dasvin 10th Patshah actually uses the word 'Diwali'! Hopefully I will find it before Diwali. https://www.facebook.com/652447751445011/photos/navratri-and-dushera-are-days-to-do-shastra-puja-the-nine-nights-of-naurate-star/995158367173946/ Since this post contains content objectionable to some jathe, I guess you will need to lock this. However please at least leave this post up so sikhs know how to celebrate Navratri and Dusshera, and can see the historical quotes.
  3. I just wanted to provide historical context for food. I know that sometimes when there were food shortages, Singhs had to attack enemies eating Muslim langar and sometimes the food even had halal meat, so they would do bhog of the food with kard to be able to eat it. Actually, first time Singhs were forced to do bhog of halal meat was when Guru Gobind Singh dressed as Uch Ka Pir. Guru ji was able to avoid the halal meat by saying they were fasting, however the sikhs who were dressed as the disciples didn't have any choice but to accept the halal offering. This is where Guru ji explained to his sikhs to do bhog on the halal meat to make it acceptable to eat. In conclusion, I am trying to explain that it's probably best you do bhog of whatever food you are offered in the army... With regards to gutka, it would probably be best to take a gutka which contains das Granthi banis since you will require these banis as they are geared for warriors! Since you will be in the army, it's probably a good idea to add at least Chandi Charitar Ustat, Chandi Di Vaar, Ugardanti and ShastarnaamMala 1 into your morning nitnem. Also read a warrior style Rehraas and Warrior style Aarti Aarta in the evening. Since Nihang Singhs from Budha Dal Tarna Dal already live a military lifestyle, they are the best to ask when it comes to which banis to read and how Singhs lived historically during battles etc...
  4. I think one thing that is important is you get as much chance as possible to chat to the girl, and also talk to the vicholay as well. Make sure you are not pushed into getting engaged, as families in India can be pushy!
  5. I mean if we look in our families in Punjab, India and even the west, we have guys within families who are skinny or a bit feminine looking, does't mean they become gay? These guys just take the mick, with their creepy exaggerated joker smiles and exaggerated feminine dancing in the video! Just bare creepiness.... Also if you go to Sundeep's insta account, you will also see their videos and photos of their gay south indian wedding in the first Spotlight thingy! The dad looks like he has just given up! That Sundeep fella doesn't have many insta followers, and hasn't hidden his profile. Is he trying to get attention and followers? oh I see, good detective work lol!
  6. I used to be part of a site called sikhpal https://www.sikhiwiki.org/index.php/SikhPal.com , which was a sikhi forum but was also good for socialising with other sikhs. Then someone created something very similar called sikhportal. None of those exist anymore, but I think sites like those were really good for sikhs to get to know one another on a global scale and maybe even help with matrimony!
  7. How do you know that, I have no idea how to tell that? Is it from the weird expressions they are making in the pics and videos? Isn't a boy going to have mental trauma from being raped by older men who are supposed to be their mentors or tutors?
  8. also on the other hand, how would a guy find a "good" white girl and explain to her that he doesn't want to 'date' her in the modern sense, ie doesn't want to get into a partnership before marriage? I mean I think a white girl would be expecting to be picked up before marriage right, and not expect to wait until marriage to have a partnership? I mean there could be white girls that might understand, but I think there would be a lot of explaining required ?!?!
  9. How do you find white girls without baggage of ex boyfriends, I think you normally have to find a teenager to find decent white girls? Prove me wrong... How does one find a "good" white girl who doesn't have any ex-boyfriends from dating? there is a difference between looking at social media and posting lots of pictures and videos of yourself, a huge difference Just going to ask again, how does one find decent white girls who aren't into dating and don't have ex boyfriends? Also doesn't do glassy?...
  10. lol if there was a man sitting on another's lap in India like in the pic, it might just mean they are friends lol But I do understand, I mean if being deeply in love is about showing the world pictures of getting physical such as sitting on your partner's lap, then I really have to question their mindset about love and marriage.... I mean I can't take it seriously, the facial expressions the couple make in the photos and videos make it looks like some kind of comedy show, like they are a bunch of jokers!
  11. I wonder what is going on through his mind, he's one of their father right? Also the pic above, I mean if that is what they are going to look like in real life, then WAHEGURU why do they need to dress up with pagh and do Anand Karaj? I mean seriously, I think we also need to start looking at who is wearing sikh turban, not just Anand Karaj. Should we seriously look at people who only wear turban once in their lives just for Anand Karaj, especially if they misrepresent like the guys above? TO be honest I have always been worried about people wearing turban at Anand Karaj when they don't understand what the turban is about, gay or not! EDIT: just a thought - just look at their expressions in the pics and videos on their insta, especially some of the expressions when they pose for photos and also when dancing, it's like a comedy show- just can't take them seriously because their expressions make them look like jokers!
  12. wjkk wj ki Fateh oh no... Would he be willing to learn gurmukhi? Also what is the reason for not sitting in sangat? Also find out more why he is keeping kesh, he still seems respectful towards sikhi ?! You need to find out if he kept kesh with his own decision, or maybe he has one of those fathers who want their children to keep kesh???!!! What is alarming he doesn't know any bani. Find out if he knows mool Mantar, also I think it is important to know Japji Sahib at least. IS he open to listening to gurbani? Is he into learning about sikh history? PAss him Basics of Sikhi YouTube channel and he must attend WhyGuru course on that channel! In many NRI families, even where children keep kesh, gurmukhi was not always passed down as parents were too busy working and making money! I have seen some Kenya sikh families in the UK where the children were given Khanday dee Pahul at 6 years age, and then even at university they cannot read gurmukhi although they do know some bani, emphasis on only some bani! Please be careful!
  13. do you mean keeping Raag keertan alive? lol Because I think that is what they are doing? Seen quite a bit of it on Mardana Project Youtube channel
  14. I have not seen this situation as yet. At the moment things are a mess and males have been with different females and have many exes, and same with females having been with different males and having exes as well. And both males and females become really angry and upset when they are 'cheated' on within these casual partnerships, so they want these casual relationships to be monogamous?!?!
  15. lol keeping 'old tunes' alive? I think they are doing much more than that!
  16. I mean that is why people are orientated to going into casual partnerships such as boyfriend-girlfriend. In our culture and in sikhi, grihast jeevan is a 'civilised' way in the age of kalyug to be in a partnership, and it seems this was is the case in many other cultures as well. this girlfriend-boyfriend stuff is a step toward becoming uncivilised.

    Tankah

why will they be angry, what did you commit which will make them so angry????
  18. wjkk wjkf can you please mention any differences in gurbani and gurmukhi so we can help more? Also you didn't mention if you have taken Pahul? And what is your definition of gursikh, even someone who has taken khanday dee pahul is not automatically gursikh...!
  19. ipledgeblue

    Scared

please get out of these veham (superstition) and either try and do your nitnem, or at least put it on audio to listen. Don't be scared, read or listen to Chaupai Sahib and Chandi Di Vaar. It is your own mind which is limiting you! .... also why are you eating in restaurant during Coronavirus Pandemic???!!!
  20. wow so your Dad can't even eat langar type food once in a while? Is there nothing spiritual, do they. not listen to, or watch any sikhi related tv or radio stations? Some of these have impacted apnay that were too much into their drinking... Why don't you change your landline number, most people have mobile phones now anyway? My mother won't let us change ours as she says most people have the current number, but we don't get weird calls at night. My mum's bro was an alcoholic who caused trouble, however he then took pahul and even stands in panj pyarai at Nagar Keertan, although still hasn't changed totally into a trustworthy person!
  21. why do you think Guru Sahib told sikhs to wear panj kaprey, which includes Hajooria? We can cover our mouths with Hajooria when trying to be hygienic when serving langar or prasad, or covering while reading bani, or even to stop dust or keep our faces and beards clean! How do you think you caught it, were you out in public somewhere with lots of other people around?
  22. yeh, I mean I sometimes fall asleep listening to Rakhiya de Shabad and Keertan Sohila, usually on a phone speaker. Often I am late listening to Aarti, so I sometimes have Aarti Aarta queued up to play first and may just fall asleep listening to Aarti.
  23. I listen to paat more than reading. But most times my nitnem is: --morning-- Japji (also occasionally might listen to Asa Di Vaar beforehand) Shabad Hazare Jaap Shabad Hazare patshahi 10 Tav Prasad Swaiye Tav Prasad Swaiye (Deenan ki Pratipal) Tav Prasad Chaupai (Akal Ustat) Chaupai Sahib (Mahakal and including Arril) Anand Sahib Chandi Charitar Ustat Chandi Di Vaar Ugardanti ShastarNaamMala (1) --evening-- Sodar Rehras (Hazoor Sahib or Budha Dal) Aarti Aarta (Normally Budha Dal/Tarna Dal starting Lop Chandika, and in the end including last pauri of Chandi Di Vaar, and a part of Salok Mahalla 9 - however I alternatively listen to Hazoor Sahib Waddi and Chotti Aarti) Keertan Sohila and Rakhiya De Shabad SORRY I FORGOT TO BE ANONYMOUS. did not see that part of the post and I hope that is ok? lol
