  2. On reading on a few Sakhias of Sikh Saints (FTR they followed SGGS and Tenth Guru's bachan to the core by the reads of it) I learned the morning Nitnem is different. Why the change? We're not talking one biography only but 3-4 sakhia of Saints pre 80's time. The Bania are Japji, Shabd Hazare, Asa D Vaar, Sukhmani sahib and Anand Sahib full. Wheras today the Mandatory it's Japji, Jaap, Tav Prasad, Chaupai and Anand Sahib full. So what caused the changes?

    Night shift workers

Can anyone advice what do you do in terms of nitnem as in timings when you work night shifts. when do you read your amritvela banis , and when do you read reheras sahib and Kirtan Sohila?
  4. Nanaksar Nitnem The seva is dedicated to Baba Ishar Singh Nanaksar Kaleran & Baba Ishar Singh Nanaksar Kaleran.
  5. I forgot my account password and email lol so I have to make this here. I am personally gonna follow this (as soon as I learn how to read gurmukhi properly) This is just an idea but I think everyone should follow this, this is mainly for weekends because then you wont be able to get enough sleep. 2:30am to 3am - Waheguru or Mool Mantar( Not required but its good to do) 3 am to 4 am - 5 banis, Japji Sahib, Jaap Sahib, Tav Prasad Saveya and Chaupi Sahib, this includes (kirpa kiree ham par jag mata) 4am to 4:15 - Shabad Hazaree and Shabad Hazaree Patshai 10 (Do Both) 4:15 am to 5:30 am - Akal Ustad (Takes around 1 hour 10 min to do so you can do Brahm Kavach (32 times)) or any other Dasam Granth Bani (Like Chandi Di Vaar). Must be Dasam Granth Bani though..... 5:30 am to 6:45 am - Sukhmani Sahib Then do ardas And if you have time 6:45 am to 7:30 - Asa di vaar Then in the evening 5 pm to 5:15- Rehras Sahib (Including Chaupi Sahib (including kirpa kiree ham par jag mata) and Anand Sahib (the short one)) 5:15pm to 5:25pm - Aarti paath 5:25pm to 6:40pm - Sukhmani Sahib Then ardas Then at night Kirtan Sohila I put Akal Ustad because I have heard it is equal to 16000 Waheguru Jaaps can someone confirm? What do you guys think about this? and dont start a Dasam Granth Bani argument.
  6. WJKK WJKF, thought it would be beautiful if we all could ANONYMOUSLY share the banis we have added to nitnem or how much abhyaas we have, to inspire and be inspired! Feel free to keep identity gupt
  7. Hi daas ki benti is that your nitnem should look like this. You may ask why so much path it is because we are in the deepest time of kaljug and we need to get out of this. Not by arguing over what path is real but coming together to do path. I recommend you also learn santhiya. And after covid we need to do lots of parchar. Wake up at 2 am after shower and everything probably is 2 20 Ardas 2 20 to 3 00 naam simrin (this should be 24/7) Japji sahib Shabad hazare Jaap Sahib Shabad hazare pt 10 Tav parsad savyie 33 savyie Bent choupi sahib (long) Anand Sahib Khalsa mool mantar (this is a must for amridhars) Naam simrin Akal ustat (Somedays do bachitar natak insted of akal ustat) Chandi di vaar Ugardanti Shastar naam mala Naam simrin Anand Sahib Hukamnama Asa di vaar kirtan Sukhmani Sahib Anand sahib Salok mehla 9 dhora mehla 10 Sidh ghost Anand sahib Naam simrin Reharas sahib Anand sahib Ardas Japji sahib Jaap sahib Arti arta Anand Sahib Dukh banjnee sahib Kirtan sohila Naam simrin Daas is trying his best to follow this. You may add bani or remove bani. For cahndi di vaar shastar naam mala and ugardanti maryda read my other post.
  8. Vaheguru ji ka khalsa Vaheguru ji ki fateh ki fateh ji I have been doing the hazuri gutka sohila sahib for about a year and a half now and because I have more time, I want to add more bani's to read before rakheya de shabad and kirtan sohila sahib, are there any banis or shabads that I can add? Bhul chuk maaf Vaheguru ji ka khalsa Vaheguru ji ki fateh ji

  12. I tie a taksali dumala, but i am wondering what is the history behind it. Apparently the singhs in guru jis time used to wear nihang dumala and used used to wear chakars on them. When was the taksali dumala style made? who made it? is there a reason why taksalis wear this dumala?

    Laziness is killing me

Waheguru ji ka Khalsa Waheguru ji ki Fateh! Sangat ji i need some help. I don't wake up at Amrit Vela even though I'm at home these days. I started with Japji Sahib and then built up to include Jaap Sahib in my morning nitnem. But once I wake up late, I keep procrastinating my morning nitnem through the day, and end up not even doing Rehras Sahib! Idk I'm just really lazy?. Does it mean I don't love Guru Maharaj enough? Can I do something about it? After a good few months my graph is going down. I am clueless. Why is it happening so? And what should I do? Thanking you in anticipation for the support that you always extend. Waheguru ji ka Khalsa Waheguru ji ki Fateh!
  14. Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Vaheguru Ji Ki Fateh! I wanted to know if it's ever ok to just listen to Nitnem without physically doing it due to some reason? Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Vaheguru Ji Ki Fateh!
  15. Waheguru ji ka khalsa Waheguru ji ke fateh I always get up amritvela and do my nitnem. But latley i havent. i have been sick. I got the flu. My throat hurts. I usually like reciting nitnem out loud, so i can hear myself. Waking up amritvela is great. I love it. But....... Due to the medications i am unable to get up early .... and i sleep in. Instead of sitting, reciting and focusing on my nitnem, i am now listening to nitnem. I can't focus when im listening to nitnem on way to work. I feel like im missing out. I prefer sitting in my room and reciting it. I feel down all day because i didnt wake up for amritvela. Will this hurt my rehat? I will do ardaas and ask for forgiveness, i will do ardaas and ask guru ji to make me stronger at times like this. I feel like there is no excuse. I shouldve got up. I hope guru ji forgives me Waheguru ji ka khalsa Waheguru ji ke fateh
  16. Having listened to some katha over time, I understand that we should all try to do the 5 Bani in morning, and Rehraas in evening and Kirtan Sohila before sleep. All the Bani have to some extent (but not exclusively), their own purpose/meaning for why we should do them I understand Chaupai Sahib helps with 'protection' throughout the day; that Anand Sahib helps for peace of mind; Kirtan Sohila is for protection overnight and for protection when we die. Can anyone summarise more about why we should do the other Bani, and what we would lack in our lives if we missed any of the individual Bani in our routine?

    nootropic use to help paath

i use a nootropic supplement people use for the gym to keep them focused during workouts during my nitnem because it is VERY VERY long and i start to lose focus and run out of energy about half way through. nootropics are supps that help with mental focus. i don't use crazy stuff like modafinil and ritalin and stuff - that's on the verge of harmful drugs. what i'm using is basically like people who take mass gainers to put on weight during bulking in the gym. is there anything wrong with using this to keep my mind focused during nitnem? thanks

    Nitnem

Hello, I am new to Sikhism and have been learning and practicing to the best of my ability for the past 4 months. I have been doing Nitnem, but I think I am somewhat unorthodox in my approach - while I think it works for me and thus I will keep doing it this way (at least for now), I wanted to get opinions from the group and maybe some advice on how I could make my Nitnem more effective. I usually wake around 4-430. In order to fit Nitnem into my morning I listen to the morning banis while I am getting ready in the morning - usually while I work out (I work out at home and it is very quiet and peaceful) and eat breakfast. I follow that with Simran before going to work. In the evening I listed Rehras Sahib during my commute home and before bed I listen to Kirtan Sohila (usually do Simran again after dinner). In the beginning I used to listen to the english translation of the banis and read the english Kirtan Sohila, but now I list to the Gurmukhi of all the banis. For now, I think it works for me as it fills me with peace and calm while I listen and my thoughts are on Waheguru while I listen. I would like to know what people thought of this and if this seems appropriate. Ultimately I would like to be able to memorize the banis in their Gurmukhi, as well as the meaning without having to utilize the english translation in my Nitnem prayer book (I am already starting by learning Mul Mantra and also following along with the Gurmukhi romanized script while I listen to Kirtan Sohila). At the moment I am finishing a veterinary residency program and am a new father, so I am trying my best with a busy schedule - but looking forward to devoting more time to practice when I finish my residency in 5 months! Thank you for taking the time to reading and replying (if you do). Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh. - I
