A change in the Morning Banias?

On reading on a few Sakhias of Sikh Saints (FTR they followed SGGS and Tenth Guru's bachan to the core by the reads of it) I learned the morning Nitnem is different. Why the change? We're not talking one biography only but 3-4 sakhia of Saints pre 80's time. The Bania are Japji, Shabd Hazare, Asa D Vaar, Sukhmani sahib and Anand Sahib full. Wheras today the Mandatory it's Japji, Jaap, Tav Prasad, Chaupai and Anand Sahib full. So what caused the changes?

Listening to nitnem instead due to sickness

Waheguru ji ka khalsa Waheguru ji ke fateh I always get up amritvela and do my nitnem. But latley i havent. i have been sick. I got the flu. My throat hurts. I usually like reciting nitnem out loud, so i can hear myself. Waking up amritvela is great. I love it. But....... Due to the medications i am unable to get up early .... and i sleep in. Instead of sitting, reciting and focusing on my nitnem, i am now listening to nitnem. I can't focus when im listening to nitnem on way to work. I feel like im missing out. I prefer sitting in my room and reciting it. I feel down all day because i didnt wake up for amritvela. Will this hurt my rehat? I will do ardaas and ask for forgiveness, i will do ardaas and ask guru ji to make me stronger at times like this. I feel like there is no excuse. I shouldve got up. I hope guru ji forgives me Waheguru ji ka khalsa Waheguru ji ke fateh

Having listened to some katha over time, I understand that we should all try to do the 5 Bani in morning, and Rehraas in evening and Kirtan Sohila before sleep. All the Bani have to some extent (but not exclusively), their own purpose/meaning for why we should do them I understand Chaupai Sahib helps with 'protection' throughout the day; that Anand Sahib helps for peace of mind; Kirtan Sohila is for protection overnight and for protection when we die. Can anyone summarise more about why we should do the other Bani, and what we would lack in our lives if we missed any of the individual Bani in our routine?
  6. i use a nootropic supplement people use for the gym to keep them focused during workouts during my nitnem because it is VERY VERY long and i start to lose focus and run out of energy about half way through. nootropics are supps that help with mental focus. i don't use crazy stuff like modafinil and ritalin and stuff - that's on the verge of harmful drugs. what i'm using is basically like people who take mass gainers to put on weight during bulking in the gym. is there anything wrong with using this to keep my mind focused during nitnem? thanks

Hello, I am new to Sikhism and have been learning and practicing to the best of my ability for the past 4 months. I have been doing Nitnem, but I think I am somewhat unorthodox in my approach - while I think it works for me and thus I will keep doing it this way (at least for now), I wanted to get opinions from the group and maybe some advice on how I could make my Nitnem more effective. I usually wake around 4-430. In order to fit Nitnem into my morning I listen to the morning banis while I am getting ready in the morning - usually while I work out (I work out at home and it is very quiet and peaceful) and eat breakfast. I follow that with Simran before going to work. In the evening I listed Rehras Sahib during my commute home and before bed I listen to Kirtan Sohila (usually do Simran again after dinner). In the beginning I used to listen to the english translation of the banis and read the english Kirtan Sohila, but now I list to the Gurmukhi of all the banis. For now, I think it works for me as it fills me with peace and calm while I listen and my thoughts are on Waheguru while I listen. I would like to know what people thought of this and if this seems appropriate. Ultimately I would like to be able to memorize the banis in their Gurmukhi, as well as the meaning without having to utilize the english translation in my Nitnem prayer book (I am already starting by learning Mul Mantra and also following along with the Gurmukhi romanized script while I listen to Kirtan Sohila). At the moment I am finishing a veterinary residency program and am a new father, so I am trying my best with a busy schedule - but looking forward to devoting more time to practice when I finish my residency in 5 months! Thank you for taking the time to reading and replying (if you do). Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh. - I

    Nitnem of gursikhs/sants

Hey guys, I've searched everywhere but can not find nitnem of famous Sikhs. Could you guys put the nitnem of, Bhai Sahib Randhir Singh Ji, Sant Harnam Singh ji and other gursikhs/sants, also put in how long they did naam simran, or mool mantra.
  9. Does any gurmukh pyaara know the full nihang amritvela nitnem? (Based on the budhadal or tarnadal rehat)
  10. I forgot my account password and email lol so I have to make this here. I am personally gonna follow this (as soon as I learn how to read gurmukhi properly) This is just an idea but I think everyone should follow this, this is mainly for weekends because then you wont be able to get enough sleep. 2:30am to 3am - Waheguru or Mool Mantar( Not required but its good to do) 3 am to 4 am - 5 banis, Japji Sahib, Jaap Sahib, Tav Prasad Saveya and Chaupi Sahib, this includes (kirpa kiree ham par jag mata) 4am to 4:15 - Shabad Hazaree and Shabad Hazaree Patshai 10 (Do Both) 4:15 am to 5:30 am - Akal Ustad (Takes around 1 hour 10 min to do so you can do Brahm Kavach (32 times)) or any other Dasam Granth Bani (Like Chandi Di Vaar). Must be Dasam Granth Bani though..... 5:30 am to 6:45 am - Sukhmani Sahib Then do ardas And if you have time 6:45 am to 7:30 - Asa di vaar Then in the evening 5 pm to 5:15- Rehras Sahib (Including Chaupi Sahib (including kirpa kiree ham par jag mata) and Anand Sahib (the short one)) 5:15pm to 5:25pm - Aarti paath 5:25pm to 6:40pm - Sukhmani Sahib Then ardas Then at night Kirtan Sohila I put Akal Ustad because I have heard it is equal to 16000 Waheguru Jaaps can someone confirm? What do you guys think about this? and dont start a Dasam Granth Bani argument.

  18. Jaap Sahib is the morning prayer of the Sikhs. The Prayer or Bani was composed by the tenth Sikh Master, Guru Gobind Singh. This Bani is one of 5 Banis that a Sikh must recite everyday and is recited by the Panj Pyare while preparing Amrit on the occasion of Amrit Sanchar (initiation), a ceremony held to admit initiates into the Khalsa. The Jaap Sahib is chronologically the first Bani (holy hymn of Guru) in the Dasam Granth, which is said to have been compiled by Bhai Mani Singh around the year 1734. The Jaap Sahib is reminiscent of Japji Sahib, and is chronologically recited at second, in the daily morning prayer of a Sikh. ਕਿ ਆਗੰਜ ਕਰਮੈ ॥ ਕਿ ਆਭੰਜ ਭਰਮੈ ॥੧੦੩॥ Ki Aaganja Karami ॥ Ki Aabhaanja Bharami ॥103॥ कि आगंज करमै ॥ कि आभंज भरमै ॥१०३॥ That Thou art beyond impact of Karmas. That Thou art free from doubts.103.

Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ke Fateh I've spoken about me wanting to take Amrit at some point soon before in a previous post. I just wanted to know as I do 8am to 8pm is there anyone who does these kind of odd shifts and how do you do the Nitnem, especially around Amritvela. Do you guys feel tired? how so you cope? Also I need to lose weight as well so need to start exercising a bit cos I need to go Gurudwara and don't want to say Waheguru followed by ' OH GODAI DUKTDAI'.(Kknees are hurting) Because with shame, i used to avoid going at all cost and know I feel i need to be in sangat more often. Final Question what is the closest Gurudwara near the City (Bank, Tower hill etc) anyone go near here at all?

  22. Hi, After trying to get an app for Android to show nitnem prayers, I was very dissapointed to see some apps showing advertisements with prayers. This is very distracting for me and most likely other persons. I created apps for Android and Firefox mobile devices which can be found here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.malton.nitnem&hl=en https://marketplace.firefox.com/app/nitnem-sikh-prayers?src=search Furthermore, because the firefox app is web based, I also deployed the website http://www.nitnem.net with the same texts. All texts are shown in similar format with gurmukhi, then transliteration and then translation. These texts are based on those found on http://fateh.sikhnet.com/s/DownloadBanis and http://www.gurbanifiles.org/pocket_pc/index.htm and required formatting to a text and then coding of java code to make it html based as well as javascript to render correctly with options such as Larger/Smaller Text and Night Reading Mode. Note that there are no advertisements or never will be any advertisements or any cost whatsoever. I am doing this completely for free. The texts included so far are the following: - Japjee Saahib (Japji Sahib) - Shabad Hazaaray (Shabad Hazare) - Jaapu Saahib (Jaap Sahib) - Tav Parsaad Svaye - Kabyo Bach Baynti Chaupai - Anand Saahib (Anand Sahib) - Rehraas Saahib (Rehras Sahib) - Ardas - Sohilaa (Sohila) - Baareh Maahaa - Sukhmani Sahib - Assa Dee Vaar (Asa Ki Vaar) - Sidh Gost - Artee - Lawa Please do advise your opinions on this matter. Also advise if any further texts should be included or any other improvements that could occur.

    Schedule Of A Gursikh

WJKK WJKF, I am 14 years old, trying to become a real Sikh. I just wanted to know how other Gursikhs spend their day on Sikhi, such as the time they wake up and the banis they do and when they sleep and everything that happens in your day. I just wanted to see if I can model it. Please also provide the times, so that I know how much time it takes for each part of the schedule. Bul Chuk Maaf Kareo. Thank you very much.
  24. Hello, I wanted to ask how exactly does Nitnem change you? I used to feel something when I did paht, but now I don't feel like I have that experience anymore, I'm feeling discouraged.
  25. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Kee Fateh, Sorry for any of my mistakes. I am only 14 years old and I hear a lot about how simran is important and it helps us attain waheguru. But I don't know how to do it. Whenever I hear a katha, they always explain why we should do it, not how ot do it. Please tell me what I need to do. I tried listening many times to Bhai Harjinder Singh Ji Sri Nagar Wale's Waheguru jaap kirtan because I like it but the problem is that after doing it, I don't feel anything. I don't even get that feeling like I did something. Please help me. Thank you very much.
