I think the Hajoor Sahib sikh families are a great example of Singhs settling in the area by marrying girls not from Singh families, actually from hindu families, and those women becoming sikhnis! And at the the same time, they are really good at preserving rehit whereas punjabi sikhs are currently poor at keeping rehit including those who call themselves as amrit-dharis or gursikhs!

expensive amazing horses of punjab!
ipledgeblue replied to shastarSingh's topic in WHAT'S HAPPENING?
really the Singhs or Khalsa is supposed to keep horses. How many people in India who call themselves amrit-dhari or gursikh keep horses now??? -
people grow into Love. Instead of just getting someone you fancy and calling that Love!

oh yeh in Harmandir Sahib they have issues with Benti Chaupai and always seem to skip a few lines before Arril, they have been having this issue for around a century now believe it or not! Hopefully someone will see sense one day, and start respecting the bani!

have you listened to Hajoor Sahib Sodar Rehras on Youtube, uploaded daily. Your comment reminded me of this, as I often watch their paat on Youtube.

I remember a Kenya Singh at uni, and he said he was Amrit-dhari, I think he was one of those KEnya sikh families that take Pahul at 6 years old. One day in the Students Union bar area, saw his friend messing about with his girlfriend with her sitting on his lap etc and he just mentioned it to him, and he said there's nothing wrong with it. Then he told me he himself had 2 girlfriends in the past, just had a further discussion with him and he couldn't see anything wrong with taking women like this, I wasn't clued up about grihast jeevan in those days. I know another Kenya sikh, and him and his Uncles seem to be ok going to strip clubs. Me and another sardar have even mentioned this, and he doesn't seem to care. Also he doesn't care when we say don't eat halal meat and makes stupid excuses. But from this thread it and some talk about Kenya sikhs being more liberal, I think due to being close to the British colonial masters, the Kenya sikhs follow sikhi in a more religious/ritualistic manner as opposed to sikhs linked to India being more dharmik, regardless of keeping kesh or not. Being dharmik you are less likely to lose traditions and less likely to do things like this dating mentality, whereas for religious people since it doesn't fit in the religion box they can do stuff like that after losing touch with culture. sikhi as dharam, as opposed to religion, helps preserve some traditions and culture as well. -
online I saw some Hospital Doctor Singhs showing to tie a cloth like a thatha over the regular face mask or protector/

well why are they doing this boyfriend nonsense in the first place? IT is good to see some families have enough respect to understand this is disruptive behaviour, and helps those who get caught up in it to understand! I was at that age once, and I know the younger you are the more you are attracted to looks than to personality and other traits. That is why when elders used to arranged marriages young, it meant that those youngsters could grow up together and have good traits, instead of just trying to look good!

With regards to this topic, I wanted to discuss something about myself and a sikhni I used to chat to in the past. I used to chat to her on MSN Messenger, and then I had her number so I must have texted her a few times. I think she was from Midlands. At first, I thought maybe she is a girl I can marry or something. Anyway, as I kept chatting to her, I found out she not only had 1 but 2 ex boyfriends. And she used to tell me in a roundabout way that they may not have been sikhs. Anyway eventually she texts me one day that in the past I think 1 or both of those ex boyfriends had raped her! Also they had pretended to be sikhs and may have been muslims, I can't remember it was time ago?? Also she posted this on a forum, I think it was a sikhi forum but may have been a punjabi discussion forum, I don't think it was sikhsangat forum. So I think she wrote on the forum that she was raped and then she has taken Pahul, and I think she found a Singh who she married, I am sure I remember seeing the Singh's photo posted as well somewhere. This was about 10 or more years ago so memory is a bit fuzzy. Anyway, the 2 ex-boyfriends thing was enough for me and the rape was an additional SHOCK! I think in the middle of my undergrad career I had talked to enough apney from mostly midlands area online (there used to be a desi chat run by punjabi midlanders back then and it was really popular), to completely keep the girls, who are into dating mentality and have ex-boyfriends, at arm's length when it came for looking for grihast-marriage partner. Even though being a Londoner myself. I am sure that if i Married a girl with ex boyfriend it would probably ruin at least my marital life, and by extension, my actual life! I was actually shocked when I started finding out Khalsas, or in those days sikhs who called themselves "Amrit-Dharis", were doing dating and making boyfriend-girlfriend instead of having grihast jeevan! And I was young and hadn't been around too many desis before going to uni For the OP, the only way you will survive is if your wife gets out of this casual dating mentality and looks at you as a grihast life partner. If she is stuck in 'thinking of men as temporary boyfriend partner' mentality then you may need to get out of there, just don't know how.... I mean ok, if this works, then good for you, but if it does not and you may need to marry a girl in India for example, at least the India sikh girls understand girlfriend-boyfriend is not right (definetly the village ones still do), regardless of the reputation india girls are getting as well!

lol I remember in my undergrad uni days. I had an dumalla wearing "Singhni" on my MSN messenger. She asked me to come to one of these rehnsbais, and yeh she was definitely interested in me. She had not even take Pahul / Amrit, but she liked wearing dumalla. Actually asking further questions she told me she had an ex boyfriend as well! During my undergrad life I came across another keski wearing Singhni in Canada who had ran off with a mona boyfriend, again this was an MSN messenger contact. And at uni sikh society and other London unis there were Singhnis wearing dumallas or keski, and I am sure some of them had some kind of rep, even if just making boyfriends but still...

I just saw the comments on falling asleep and just couldn't stop remembering these sakhis and pictures of Guru jis so just had to post:

lol trust me though, just because things are 'worldy entertainment', they aren't going to stop me from wanting to fall asleep! ?

I'm really poor at getting up for amritvela time. When I was commuting to work I usually listened to paat on my headphones or in my car stereo. If I had any banis left maybe even listen to them at the start of shift. Also would try and start to listen before I left home. Another thing you can try is to get a nap or sleep early, and then at least you can get up for amritvela and then maybe take another nap or sleep. Read up about biphasic sleep, it used to be normal in the past.

I guess it's the 'kar-sewaks' that are ruining them. Look at the area around Kesgarh Sahib Anandpur Sahib, what it used to look like.

I was in Guru Nanak School Hayes, some sewadaars only used to give the wajay to those who could already play keertan, and put others on the side, maybe give tabla to them.

Read Chaupai Sahib, Read Chandi Charitar Ustat and Chandi Di Vaar. Add Ugardanti to nitnem if you can. Listen to katha about Guru Hargobind and Guru Gobind Singh I like listening to katha from Suraj Prakash
-
probably ask this page if you want to take Khanday dee Pahul from Singhs with proper rehit and to learn rehit:

lol tell him to stop behaving like a gora and a coconut. Serious, we can talk about football as much as we want, the football teams are still going to be racist and not let apney play, serious wast of time. Maybe he needs to hear some katha about warriors fighting and becoming shaheed. That will bring the men in! Just some interesting aspect of history! There is katha about Guru Hargobind, Guru Gobind Singh, history about sikh misls, and the world wars! Also so much sikh history about colonial times!
-
the fact that you use the term hinduism, even though the colonial hindu"ism" term is quite recent, makes me question the abrahamic lens you see the subcontinent in.

watch this video and follow the channel to learn about real keertan: too many so-called keertanis these days are just people who haven't learnt much and just started performing in gurdwaras!
