  1. yes, and I think we should still use the shastar vidiya options that are available, no matter who is teaching.
  2. I don't follow the late Tarmala and PKMC, although their gurdwara is ok. Check Tarmala out on Youtube and you might get shocked! Watch Basics of Sikhi and Nanak Naam.
  3. I think some of the over-zealous mods that over regulate are no longer on the forum. Although the main ADMIN still seems to not hold totally panthic views, and I called him/her out in one thread few months back.
  4. the Nihangs that still know shastar vidiya martial arts are probably gupt. Most seem to practise some form of gatka, although better than some of the other forms of gatka seen.
  5. sgpc can bring people into sikhi. However sgpc just doesn't have the rehit to make people into proper Khalsas. That mission should be taken by Buddha Dal and Tarna Dal. Is this the time to call Nihang Singhs lazy and not doing their duty, carrying out their dharam? etc?
  6. but geographically it's easy to class people as hindu. It's when we get to using the corrupted colonial definition of hindu being a follower of hindu"ism", then it's hard to class people as hindu, but everyone is boxed into this corrupted generic term, even sikhs can be boxed in as well and that is problematic due to so many incompatibilities. During the days of Bhagats Kabir, Ravi Dass, and the 10 Gurus - there was no such thing as HINDUISM", regardless of brahmin influences or not. Hinduism just did not exist back then, just a few centuries back.

Many hindus only do pooja of sarguna saroop, while we have been told nirguna sargun nirankaar. So sikhis is different from nay hindu panths, and distinct in a way. Still, the colonialism complete divorce from hindus is also inaccurate.
  8. I think calling these people as general hindus is not correct, as hindus have so many panths such as kabirpanthis and ravidas-panth, with some that have some philosophies similar to sikhi i.e. following nirguna-sarguna nirankaar and not doing idol worship etc. so calling it hindu-gand isn't correct. previously hindu was just a geographical term. From colonial era it's become a hindu"ism" religion term.
  9. unfortunately, most of the world cuts their hair as a sheep mentality, because everyone else does it. Look at America, USA. the actual natives didn't cut their hair. The European christian invaders did cut their own hairs. You see the pattern? I would say colonialism also influenced people into cutting their hair more. In India/Bharat, many people used to keep turbans, not just sikh. But the gulami/ slave-mentality increased during colonial rule. The Gurus taught sikhs to be self-automonous, to wear turbans on heads like kings, and not be treated as lower castes who were refused turbans. Also to wear double turbans, or dumallas against the rules of the islamic rulers who were banning turbans for non-muslims. A sikh should have a warrior and non-slave mentality. Be non-conformist.
  10. I am sure there is a way to keep details somewhat private?
  11. but modern anand karaj didn't exist before 1699, I am talking about the modern sgpc/nirankari version.
  12. too young, have you seen the alternatives of girlfriend boyfriends? I have seen amrit dharis getting into this disgraceful culture, and also getting stressed out because of it. It's not a fantasy world, but just like puraatan times people are still stuck in maya. Just like puraatan times, in jawani age the kaam vikaar is really high. Please show me how many sikhs and amrit dharis are in control and not in control in their teens and early 20s due to non-marriage? The fact is even if they have arguments, they are young and have parents and in-laws to get involved and be explained to.
  13. shouldn't gurdwara matrimonials promote gurmatt instead of people hating on turbans and beards in there? what are they doing with the golak monies and matrimonial membership fees?
  14. this jatt girl with pardra post, is it posted every year. what the heck is a pardra? A sikh is not "supposed to be with" boys or girls. They are supposed to be in grihast with life partner, ie after marriage. If you're doing this stupid trashy girlfriend boyfriend casual partnership then it doesn't matter which caste or race religion panth, then it's just gand behaviour, manmatt. As a sikh, only look for a life partner. Casual partner and then this exe stuff is just malesh behaviour. Yes, Guru Arjan Dev ji calls Bhagat Dhanna a Jatt.
  15. Most people cannot control their kaam and vikaars and grihast jeevan would greatly help them in their teens. Most people who say they are not ready at 18 are lying, speaking chooth, as they are making casual partners of girlfriend boyfriend. Look at the example of puraatan gursikhs and our Guru jis, and see the ages they married. To get married at your age you have an advantage. Alot of sikhs are causing destructive behaviours within the community due to putting off marriage until late 20s and even much later. The money making mentality has put sikhs away from gurmatt mentality. At your younger age, you will have a chance to grow with your partner into adulthood. Most people these days waste this growing up with casual partners. And those that get married later have grown older and independent minded, causing many women to not gel properly with in-laws, and also just couples having differing viewpoints etc etc
  16. I think after paat you are becoming energised. You need some activity to control this. Grihast jeevan is important, and also practising shastar, or just doing some work or study, keep your mind occupied. Or do some hard exercise, exercise is extremely important to rehit as well. daily nitnem is not an excuse to cut out exercise.
  17. the more you do sikhi, the more likely you will have to become grihasti. your lifestyle is incompatible with grihast. Grihast lifestyle is supposed to help you control the vikaars that you are chasing right now.
  18. I think as long as amrit dharis don't follow rehit properly, such as including the warrior aspects as well as with nitnem, then they are still going to be held back by their families; cultures and tribes/castes etc Some sikhs will be more joined to their sampradaiye, such as some sikh sants and sadhus, and Nihang Singhs etc. As they are less binded by cultures of outside castes and tribes, they are more likely to be in gurmatt. This is the opposite for sikhs following SGPC, and colonial jathebandis and I guess many sant babay as well...
  19. the problem I see from some of the people finding it difficult to keep kesh in this topic - it's the fact they see sikhi as a religion like goray do, instead of being a learner of sikh panth as a dharma. When sikh tradition is done as dharam istead of religion, there is a big change in mentality. Learning from Guru instead of religion. Remember, sikh is a learner. Sikhs don't practise sikhi, they DO sikhi....
  20. maybe take her to a sikhi camp and tell her it's an event or fare or something. IF she is new to the UK surely you can convince her?
  21. ipledgeblue

    sikh women

But please also remember to do shingaar of your dumalla, I mean warrior shingaar of course!

    .

OK, but make it easier for Rajas to be removed, by people and also by the central government. Can't be worse than the corrupt (un)democratic system in India now. I also think Raja system fits more into dharmik and sikhi systems.
  23. I think we can perhaps look at naamdharis as another route to see if they have kept any Laavan rehit as well. I know they don't do prakarma around Adi Gur Granth Sahib for Laavan. I don't know if there are other sampradaiye or sects we can look at as well. Is there any authentic ceremony that Dals have preserved?
  24. I think the modern version (created by the original Nirankaris and Singh Sabha/SGPC) was strictly for Amrit Dharis. There was Anand Viyaah, but this was probably different in some way to modern Anand Karaj. Also Laavan wasn't created until Guru Ram Dass. I hear during Guru Amar Dass period Anand Sahib may have been read.
