  1. I don't think government marriage means anything, probably more of a disadvantage if you're a guy.
  2. Don’t Brar and Sant Ji share a common ancestor where one of the brothers supported Guru Sahib and the other didn’t?
  3. That could be an excuse if this is the first time her story doesn't seem consistent.
  4. She forgets her story and everyday
  5. You can't attend an amrit sanchar just to witness, when I took Amrit, they didn't even let Amritdharis who weren't there to pesh enter the ceremony.
  6. The problem with the Amritsar Singh Sabha was that they put Mr.Bedi on an equal platform with Dhan Dhan Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji.
  7. Massands existed during Gurus times, Mahants existed from when Sikhs lived in Jungles to the Singh Sabha movement. Theu are considered bad.
  8. Bhai Jugraj Singh was a once in a generation type of guy.
  9. I don’t think it’s the parents, but rather that the difference between a man and a woman is that in general a man is more free-minded and is willing to seek out knowledge from the outside if need be; while on average a woman would accept whatever her parents tell her regardless of whether it’s true or not. If you look at women who come from families where the dad is a pakka Sikh in terms of him keeping a strong Amrit vela, doing sewa at Gurdwara, and overall focused on Gurmat; they tend to follow the dad unless their in the rebellious phase. If you compare that to guys, they tend to on average go towards the direction they want to go to, so even if a kid has Mona parents, he could eventually learn enough through interest and become close to Sikhi without the need for parents.
  10. Sach Gal, but there’s lots of people who wear turbans who don’t know anything about Sikhi, and most of the time, even if someone goes to Gurdwara often; that doesn’t correlate to them having more knowledge than someone who doesn’t go to Gurdwara at all. If we compared that to Muslims, even their lay people know enough about the religion to tell what are some of the common things in their faith.
  11. Most urban areas in Punjab are Hindu majority. Amritsar itself has more Hindus than Sikhs in it.
  12. According to Damdami Taksal's website, Giani Gurbachan Singh had Amrit when he was a baby and retook amrit when he met Sant Sundar Singh, at 18.
  13. I think it matters very little on who actually controls the Gurdwaras if our soch is not ultimately based on Sikhi in the spirit; as most aam Banda will view gurdwaras the same, (eating Langar, showing off clothes, and gossiping about stuff). We could hypothetically have Gurdwaras run completely according to Gurmat, and still have our society be backwards. Even when our Gurdwaras were owned by Hindu Mahants, the Aam Sikh was still more in Sikhi soch than they are today.
  14. For non-Sikhs and people who are not big into caste in the west, it really doesn’t matter if someone is Jatt or Khatri doing putte kam.
  15. We Punjabis are a minority community with a strong dislike to the majority in our world. It’s similar to blacks being minorities. The Hindus and East Asians are both majority cultures.
