  1. well a some stuff is a bit iffy, like the matrimonials and stuff, but i only go on there to listen to the kirtan - gurbani archives. and you don't have to sign up for that or anything
  2. also i suppose taking amrit is something for a person to experience for themselves rather than watching others taking amrit and in a way experiencing it through them. ie oh that looks incredible, must be so peaceful.etc. please don't take that the wrong way like saying 'oh why can't someone watch and admire and be inspired by it' because first you must be ready and inspired to get to that ultimate stage, rather than being inspired by that alone. i guess others who aren't taking amrit can't see because it's like, metaphorically, an initiation into a 'cult', if you a will, a secret society - lol, sorry. ermm a person should take amrit when they themselves are ready to give their head and seeing the ceremony is not so important, the important thing is being part of it. and really i guess, well to protect the sacredness, sort of, of taking amrit. oh wait also when people go pesh, it's very important that only they and the panj piyare ( i think) hear what their kurehit was and give adequate punishment. if the room was not enclosed and you went to a amrit sanchar and you saw a chardi kala singh, that you knew, taking amrit again, you might start speculating and saying things. but that should only stay within that room so i guess that's one of the main reasons. forgive me if i said anything wrong and i, like everyone else i'm sure, am only rying to help
  3. hey relax, i'm sure people are trying to help, just when writing things might not sound as they would when spoken.
  4. the tabla sounds wicked. variation of kehrwa yeah they're both down for some reason???
  5. http://www.sikhnet.com/Gurbani browse by musician - harjinder singh. 9th on list. i can't remember the other site i used to listen from might be ektaone
  6. lol fell over the top of my bike once going over a speed bump my leg got caught under the pedal and the bike flipped, i went over the front and landed on my head. but it was so cool cause i had my pagh on and it didn't hurt at all. the bike was totally mashed though so i had to carry it home.
  7. maybe it's probably to do with, well in keeping with history. like when the panj piyare were given amrit. and other thingsas well, i guess but i should thats the main idea.
  8. good post. not much else to add really, i think prabhjoyt singh said it all if people like me were to be more humble and understanding when posting on this forum, other users may post more, and give their opinions. if people were nicer to each other on the whole, some people may not be afraid to say something even though it might be 'wrong', or they don't understand something fully, which can then be explained to them. but as i said before ideally you just want people to do the basics of sikhi, nitnem and rehit. but when there is debate, or doubt, or differentiation as to what the basics are then it becomes a very difficult situation my friends. if people won't agree simply out of faith and they don't show the logic to figure out what's right and wrong and manmut takes over then they divide themselves. Also certain issues are not allowed to be discussed on this forum and when they are discussed, occasionally, those who will not debate and will only argue that they are correct, there is no point in trying to reason with them and this happens everywhere. so even if you provide concrete proof they will still refute(been tryin to get that word in all day for some reason :umm: @ ) it and division still exists because of manmat. forgive me .. but until we say that we know nothing and therefore we can only learn and until we become humble, understanding and prepared to talk and debate rather than argue divide will exist. forgive me if i've said anything wrong vaheguru ji ka khalsa vaheguru ji ki fateh.
  9. is it ok to stay up for amritvela. ie stay up till 12/1 then do ishnaan and nitnem etc. then go to sleep.
  10. good stuff. if you, like me, can't really understand guru sahib ji's updesh then listen to katha and people like this who convey guru ji updesh at your level and language of understanding. honestly just watch it the 9 mins fly past and there is pyaar in the message and in the delivery. :umm:
  11. vaheguru ji ka khalsa vaheguru ji kee fateh i dont know if i can help but i'll try in this post and it sounds like you want to find true satsangat and i hope you do. well i don't know maybe you need to get to the root of the problem really figure out/think long and hard about whats holding you back or bringing you down and then think of how to sort it out and maybe you need to leave behind the places and the people you know. Make a fresh start if/when you're old enough because sometimes even if you change your life those things still hold you back, maybe you ned to be independent and commit to something. maybe, hopefully commit to taking amrit, give yourself to guru ji and when you're able to do that there's no doubt you will find peace and meaning in life. maybe well hopefully when you get through it and maybe take amrit, take your experiences and help others who are finding life difficult like you. and i know this sounds cruel and it maybe wrong to say i don't know but maybe you need to find and listen to some people who are worse off or had a similar yet much worse experience sometimes it can give you perspective. i'm really sorry but i have a habit of well digging and saying blunt stuff - often quite true but incompassionate and unhelpful and i hope you can forgive me and maybe understand what i'm saying but i think that maybe you need good discipline to then bring commitment and stuff. well it's either discipline or independence and confidence that you need .. maybe :umm: . i know its hard to find anyone you can tell something and be able to trust them with it in fact i reckon almost impossible you can only trust vaheguru, well he knows everything about you already. so you have to learn from your mistakes and i guess not tell people things and and try for the future to make your life better. and hopefully you will get through this and make your life better and maybe take amrit and find peace. IF YOU DON'T WANT TO READ MY LONG, BORING AND UNHELPFUL POST I EMPLORE YOU READ THIS ANG OF BANI (GURMUKHI AND ENGLISH MEANINGS) http://www.srigranth.org/servlet/gurbani.g...amp;p=0&k=0
  12. bhai harjinder singh sri nagar: aise preet karo man mere mehima sadhu sangh ki - tabla tune is wicked- and whole of that tape(satsangat mile su tarya/bhin bhagan satsang na labhae AND LOADS MORE BHAI HARJINDER SINGH (gave me his number when he done kirtan at our gurdwara. were like X now (not really lol but got his number though RIGHT NOW following playlist on http://www.sikhnet.com/Gurbani bhai niranjan singh javadi kalan: Tum Milte Mera Man Jio Tu Mero Piyaro Sabhe Ghaat Ram Bole Sajan Tere Charn Ki Nirgun Rakh Liya Meharvan Sahib Meharvan Mere Man Naam Amrit Pio Mith Bolra Ji Har Milney Nu Man Lochda CLASSIC Har Ras Peevai I was going to highlight a few which are awesome but i can't pick they're all wicked no overstatement http://www.sikhnet.com/Gurbani
  13. ^^^ coz you're around That's not really fair to say. Sorry i wouldnt've thought so either a while back but if you learn a bit more about their relgion you'll see it's actually part of thir religion to try and convert people, which we believe is wrong
  14. Vaheguru ji ka khalsa Vaheguru ji ki fateh just quickly looked at the site and the work that they're doing is good. but what's with most of the pictures on the brochure. You can have a go or call me petty, which i probably am, and forgive me if i offend anyone due to my small mindedness but the first picture on their a very happy sikh family where the bibian both do not have their kes covered. Even small things like this do tend to annoy me when people are advertising sikhi, spreading the word and yet it may as well be just punjabi people dressed as sikhs, and not even properly dressed. honestly it just looks like the modern indian business man rather than the modern sikh.
  15. AGES ago can't remember how long at least 7 yrs - went to my massi's house and was playing with my cousins model boat on his pond and i fell in . had a shower then had to borrow cousins clothes. oh and when you're doing kirtan and you mess up :TH:

  18. the sarbloh kara symbolises us. We are not pure and unreactive to the world around us, like gold. We should be like iron, everyday when we become dirty we must cleanse ourselves with naam as we cleanse the kara of rust. (basically - im sure theres probably sakhian to go with it)
  19. i'm still undecided between mehta and usa
  20. Here you are the fifth guru, guru arjan dev ji maharaj features bhagat kabeer ji's bani(scriptures) in their own because the same bani was sent to guru ji from god and as bhagat kabeer ji had writen the same before, out of respect the guru ji put the bhagats name when 'signing off' the prayer, as was the will of god. All the gurus after guru nanak dev ji (1st guru) used guru nanak dev ji's name to sign off and in some cases other predecessors, out of respect, but NEVER THEIR OWN as they were all one and the same. Here they are showing us that it doesn't mater who has written the bani(scripture) IN GURU GRANTH SAHIB JI because it has come from god himself and those who have become one with god - like the gurus and the bhagats - their bani teaches the same thing and is from god. I do not keep fasts, nor do I observe the month of Ramadaan. I serve only the One, who will protect me in the end. The One Lord, the Lord of the World, is my God Allah. He administers justice to both Hindus and Muslims. I do not make pilgrimages to Mecca, nor do I worship at Hindu sacred shrines. I serve the One Lord, and not any other. I do not perform Hindu worship services, nor do I offer the Muslim prayers. I have taken the One Formless Lord into my heart; I humbly worship Him there. I am not a Hindu, nor am I a Muslim. My body and breath of life belong to Allah - to Raam - the God of both. Says Kabeer, this is what I say: ਗੁਰ ਪੀਰ ਮਿਲਿ ਖੁਦਿ ਖਸਮੁ ਪਛਾਨਾ ॥੫॥੩॥ meeting with the Guru, my Spiritual Teacher, I realize God, my Lord and Master. ||5||3||
  21. Dear guest, here are some quotes from sri guru granth sahib ji. Read them and you will see in escence everyone aims to become a sikh. the hindus and muslim started worshiping things which lead to god and not god, the creator himself. Sikhism tries to teach people to be good people, just people and says there is ONLY ONE GOD, FOR EVERYONE. Sikhism is a universal religion. The Muslim knows the Muslim way of life; the Hindu knows the Vedas and Puraanas. To instruct their minds, people ought to study some sort of spiritual wisdom. I know only the One, the Universal Creator, the Primal Being. I do not believe in anyone whom the Lord writes and erases. If someone knows the One, the Universal Creator, he shall not perish, since he knows Him. Where have the Hindus and Muslims come from? Who put them on their different paths? Think of this, and contemplate it within your mind, O men of evil intentions. Who will go to heaven and hell? One who knows the Lord here, realizes Him there as well. Others, whether Hindu or Muslim, are just babbling. Everyone's account is read in the Court of the Lord; without the karma of good actions, no one crosses over. One who speaks the True Name of the True Lord, O Nanak, is not called to account hereafter. ||2||
