Waheguroo Ji Ka Khalsa

Wahegroo Ji Ki Fateh

Today people are going around to Sikh youth saying form isnt important, they say we need to concentrate on the formless.

Anyone is a Sikh, who ever goes and does meth teka to Guroo Granth Sahib ji is a Sikh. These people go on to say that, certain sects in India have guroo Mahraj in there house, but yet they do not keep Sikhi saroop, etc they are all Sikhs, and you cant say they arent because they do keertan, gurbani Ucharan, etc.

So now my question is simple.

Does Form not matter in Sikhi? grin.gif

As you answer this question please keep one this in mind:

"Reath pyari mujko, Sikh pyara Ni"

Guroo Rakha

Waheguroo Ji Ka Khalsa

Wahegroo Ji Ki Fateh

"jeeahu nirumul baahuruhu nirumul

Inwardly pure, and outwardly pure.

baahuruhu th nirumul jeeahu nirumul sathigur thae kurunee kumaanee

Those who are outwardly pure and also pure within, through the Guru, perform good deeds.

koorr kee soe puhuchai naahee munusaa sach sumaanee

Not even an iota of falsehood touches them; their hopes are absorbed in the Truth.

junum ruthun jinee khattiaa bhulae sae vunujaarae

Those who earn the jewel of this human life, are the most excellent of merchants.

kehai naanuk jin munn nirumul sudhaa rehehi gur naalae

Says Nanak, those whose minds are pure, abide with the Guru forever. ||20||"

"Guru Jee I will do everything you say... I love you and will do anything you require of me....

BUT....

1) I want to cut my hair (irrespective of the Laws of Nature and that Waheguru has blessed humans with hair as a tool, gift and spiritual/practical mechanism)

2) I want to pierce my nose and ears (irrespective that piercing one's ears and noses are signs of slavery, which in India dates back to Mughal era who used to thread wire/string through women's nose and ears in a huge line so that women don't escape............ So Guru Ji I know you got us out of slavery and me realise that I am a lion/brave princess but it looks cool [to look like a slave])

3) I don't want to wear a Kirpan because it looks out of place (irrespective of that fact that the Kirpan is the manifestion of Akaal Purkh (Sri Bhagautee - the Divine Sword) - who destroys negativity/tyrants. I know that a Sikh is a king, queen, soveriegn, indepedent, and that he reprents Justice and protects the weak however do I have to carry a Kirpan (hand of mercy) which reminds me of my duty and beauty)

4) I don't want t wear the Turban - its not Western!!! (irrespective that its my spiritual crown that was put on my head by my Father Guru Gobind Singh Ji - it is my crown of soveriegnty, royalty, and indepedence... it protects my brain, keeps my hair clean and tidy and keeps me spiritually intuned)

5) I don't want to observe the 4 Kurehats/Prohibitions (irrespecitve of the fact that sex outside of marriage has exposed people to AIDS, HIV and STDs, irrespecitve that tabacco gives people cancer and affects future children's health, irrespective that dishonouring one's hair is defying nature, leading to vanity and denying oneself of a spirtiual & practical tool, & irrespective that the food I eat becomes part of my body and effects our mind and soul, i still wish to eat animals killed in a cruel way).

WHO ARE YOU KIDDING??

Don’t hide your faith and idenity, share it with the world.

Don’t be ashamed of who you truly are, walk with your head held high.

Remember brothers and sisters your image is the manifestation of Guru Gobind Singh Singh Ji & Mata Sahib Kaur.

so sikh sukhaa bundhup hai bhaaee j gur kae bhaanae vich aavai

He alone is a Sikh, a friend, a relative and a sibling, who walks in the Way of the Guru's Will.

aapunai bhaanai jo chulai bhaaee vishurr chottaa khaavai

One who walks according to his own will, O Siblings of Destiny, suffers separation from the Lord, and shall be punished.

bin sathigur sukh kudhae n paavai bhaaee fir fir pushothaavai

Without the True Guru, peace is never obtained, O Siblings of Destiny; again and again, he regrets and repents. ||1||

rsingh ji, just because one does keertan, katha, gurbaanee this does not make them a sikh. If a sheep puts on the coat of a Lion it does not become a lion, it is still a sheep.

Guroo Saahib Himself defines a Guroo Kaa Sikh.

Fourth Mehl:

One who calls himself a Sikh of the Guru, the True Guru, shall rise in the early morning hours and meditate on the Lord's Name.

Upon arising early in the morning, he is to bathe, and cleanse himself in the pool of nectar.

Following the Instructions of the Guru, he is to chant the Name of the Lord, Har, Har. All sins, misdeeds and negativity shall be erased.

Then, at the rising of the sun, he is to sing Gurbani; whether sitting down or standing up, he is to meditate on the Lord's Name.

One who meditates on my Lord, Har, Har, with every breath and every morsel of food - that GurSikh becomes pleasing to the Guru's Mind.

That person, unto whom my Lord and Master is kind and compassionate - upon that GurSikh, the Guru's Teachings are bestowed.

Servant Nanak begs for the dust of the feet of that GurSikh, who himself chants the Naam, and inspires others to chant it. ||2||

As for your main question on whether Form matters. Guroo Saahib also talks about this...

O my mind, you are the embodiment of the Divine Light - recognize your own origin.

O my mind, the Dear Lord is with you; through the Guru's Teachings, enjoy His Love.

Acknowledge your origin, and then you shall know your Husband Lord, and so understand death and birth.

By Guru's Grace, know the One; then, you shall not love any other.

Peace comes to the mind, and gladness resounds; then, you shall be acclaimed.

Thus says Nanak: O my mind, you are the very image of the Luminous Lord; recognize the true origin of your self. ||5||

If we are in the Form of AKAAL Purakh, then of course it matters!

Veer Ji that is the purpose of the post. you have hit the nail on the head as it were.

Guroo Ji has defined who a Sikh is. So please tell me this. Why are people allowed to go around London UIniversities and do talks where they are allowed to say anti Gurmat things.

I am not saying it is for us to judge who is a sikh and ho isnt but as Taksali Singh Veer said, Guroo Ji Him Self has told us who a Sikh is and who isnt.

    • The Mind is Jyot Saroop (Waheguru), but the mind is under the influence of five evils… Through Naam Simran( Rememberance), the mind will begin to detach from evil, and get back to its original form ( MANN TU JYOT SAROOP HEH)… Until the mind breaks free from the five evils, one will go through the cycle of paap and punn….which leads to Karma… Naam Simran destroys past karma, and prevents new karma coming into fruition… I did this, I did that… This non realisation of the Jyot Saroop gives rise to paap and Punn, which in turn gives birth to suffering and misery…
    • I agree we're not born with sin like the Christians think. Also I agree we have effects of karma. But Gurbani does state that the body contains both sin and charity (goodness): ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪਾਪੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਦੁਇ ਭਾਈ ॥ Within the body are the two brothers sin and virtue. p126 Actually, we do need to be saved. Gurbani calls this "udhaar" (uplift). Without Satguru, souls are liable to spiritual death: ਜਿਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਸੇ ਭਾਗਹੀਣ ਵਸਿ ਕਾਲ ॥ p40 Those who have not met Satguru Purakh are unfortunate and liable to death. So, yeah, we do need to be saved, and Guru ji does the saving. The reason Satguru is the one to save is because God has given Satguru the "key" (kunji): ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹਥਿ ਕੁੰਜੀ ਹੋਰਤੁ ਦਰੁ ਖੁਲੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥ In the True Guru's hand is the key. None else can open the door. By perfect good fortune the Guru is met. p124
    • That's unfortunate to hear. Could you give any more information? Who was this "baba"? He just disappeared with people's money? Obviously, you should donate your money to known institutions or poor people that you can verify the need of through friends and family in Punjab.
    • Sangat ji,  I know a family who went Sevewal to do seva sometimes end of 2019. They returned last year in great dismay and heart broken.  To repent for their mistakes they approached panj pyaare. The Panj gave them their punishment / order to how t make it up which, with Kirpa, they fulfilled.  They were listening to a fake Baba who, in the end, took all the "Donations " and fled sometime over a year ago. For nearly 4 years this family (who are great Gursikhs once u get to know them) wasted time and effort for this fake Baba. NOT ONLY this one fam. But many, many did worldwide and they took their fam to do seva, in village Sevewal, city Jaitho in Punjab. In the end many families lost money in thousands being behind this Baba. The family, on return, had to get in touch with all the participants and told them to stop.  I am stating this here to create awareness and we need to learn from whom we follow and believe. It's no easy but if we follow the 3 S (Sangat, Simran and Seva) we will be shown the light. As I am writing this the family in question have been doing the same since 2008 onwards and they fell for this Baba... it is unbelievable and shocking.  This am writing in a nutshell as am at work on my break so not lengthy but it deserves a great length.  Especially the family in question, who shed light on youngsters about Sikhi 20 plus years!!
