We read this everyday but fail to follow or understand it.

O Singha, please read Gurbani carefully. The above lines talk about the beginning of the creation which no one knows but Sangraand is considered first day of the new month. The lines above have nothing to do with Sangraand. Whatever it may be I don't care but if people go to Gurdwaras just because of this day then I respect that. At least people go to Gurdwaras to do satsang. This day actually helps them get closer to Guru Ji. Would Guru Ji actually say "Your satsang means nothing since you did it on sangraand which is not Gurmat"? Slowly people will start to like satsang and forget these days. More satsang the better. Only educating people will do the job. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh

In my view, there must be spiritual significance regarding "poranmaschi" because Guru Nanak Dev Nirankar was born in poranmaschi as Guru Avtar ..thats when foundation of khalsa was put as seeds.

you can call it bipran kee reet all you want but fact remains -Guru Avtar in kalyug was born on poranmaschi to spread Naam bani and to break duality in people.

And besides,

Here is another example: gurdwara committee arranges special programm on sundays now a day. why? because people come on these days in big number, so we use this opportunity to do parchaar. "same is with sangraand and pooranmaasi"

everyone likes parchar, don't they??

sangraand and pooranmaasi have not been made by brahmans..... it was made by god itself...so how could it be bipran keet reet??? ...sangraand first day of every month which is called sangraand and pooran means 'complete'

maas means month.

maasi : means that particular day

pooran masi is the day, on which 'chandar mahina' ends. pooranmaasi is night of full moon.

I think we should assign "khalsa fauji" as next jathedar of sgpc so he can fullfill all his dreams and live in naam simran and be shant forever  .. ...(note: sarcasm) :e:

come on man,

stop being soo parnoid about everything.

you calling everything and anything bipran kee reet(reet of bhramans) which does not suit your mind set of beleifs... whereas sangrand and pornasmchi was not created by bhramins at all just like how sunday was not created by christians..lol

G'day mate ! :T:

It's recorded fact in various granths (Sooraj Prakash, PAnth Prakash) that Guru ji used various days to have large sangat gatherings. Sangrands, Pooranmashis, Vaisakhis, Holis, have been all days that Guru ji used to have large sangat gatherings. The point was not to worship the actual days, but to use them to have large sangat gatherings.

We do similar things even today. Say for example having a New Years Gurdwara programme, or having large sangat gatherings on Sunday. The point is not to worship Sunday or worship New Years day, but to use them as an excuse to congregate with gursikhs.

So don't worry too much about having "sangraand" day at the gurdwara, no one is going to tell you to worship the moon on that day, you'll be just in the company of sangat and read from gurbani.

Guru ji has written Bani specific to months....not to make us worship the months, but just to serve as reminders. Just like doing "Nitnem" we get a daily reminder. Just like doing Naam Simran all day we get a constant reminder. Similarly, we get a reminder once a year when we decide to spend New Years Eve at the gurdwara instead of partying with friends.

Bijli Singh Ji! I understand what you are trying to say. The reason I used the quote was:

The sun passes through 12 Raasas. When it reaches a new Raas, a new month is started. The days that go up and down according to the lunar calculations, are called thitts. The Sanskrit word is tithe. According to lunar system, a month has 2 parts. light side and dark side. After Masseaa, when it is all dark, the light side starts as moon becomes more visible each day untilPooranmashi. On pooranmashi, the moon is totally visible. That is why it is called pooranmashi. After that day, the moon starts decreasing, according to our visible eye. This side is called dark side. Then on massea, we can't see the moon again.

Sangrand is a thit. I know that Shabad is for those who tell about when the planet was created and what the season was, etc. etc.

I believe this can be used for preaching against people who believe sangrands, poornmashis, amaavasseas, etc. are holy days. No day is holy. If you have Akaal and Guru in your heart and are following rehat, everyday is holy. Else if you are into wrong things, then no day is holy.

Bhul Chuk Maaf. Bhulla Galti Maaf Kurnee.

This is a common myth but Guru Nanak Dev Ji appeared in this world in vaisakh. I personally don’t believe in avtar theory. read Karam Singh historian's book "Katak Ke Vaisakh". Bhai Bala's janamsakhi written more than 200 years after Guru Nanak Dev Ji really messed up people's minds. celebrating these days might be bipran ki reet but going to satsang on these days is not. only the time when I remember my Guru Ji is holy otherwise everyday, every minute and every second sucks. Sat Sri Akal:

Ugh, for God's sake!! Pooranmashi and Sangrand...why you say? Cause people did not have calendars, but the moon has been ever-visible. So when the moon achieves its Pooranmashi, Sikhs knew to gather at the Gurudwara for Sangat.

Only that day is special in which one remembers the Almighty says the Guru Granth Sahib.

We are Sikhs, not werewolves darn it!

    • Definitely the Guru Sahibs would be a heavier Scriptures to handle. Dasam Granth is more towards Bir Rass, Guru Gobind Singh showed his Greatness (of course, they would never say this) by separating his own Baania.  And the BIGGEST test of all?? Do we try and read Dasam Granth, Understand n show respect like we do to SGGS? Or... Do we QUESTION it? Guru Gobind Singh Ji is testing us.
    • My wife will be going for an MRI scan next week but her Kara won’t physically come off.  Is there any way the mri scan can be done with the Kara still on?  The alternative is we will have to try to saw it off before the scan.
    • was researching this and came back to this thread. Also found an older thread:
    • Net pay after taxes. If you don't agree, think about this: If you were a trader and started off in China with silk that cost 100 rupees and came to India, and you had to pay total 800 rupees taxes at every small kingdom along the way, and then sold your goods for 1000 rupees, you'd have 100 rupees left, right? If your daswandh is on the gross, that's 100 rupees, meaning you have nothing left. Obviously, you owe only 10% of 100, not 10% of 1000. No, it's 10% before bills and other expenses. These expenses are not your expenses to earn money. They are consumption. If you are a business owner, you take out all expenses, including rent, shop electricity, cost of goods sold, advertising, and government taxes. Whatever is left is your profit and you owe 10% of that.  If you are an employee, you are also entitled to deduct the cost of earning money. That would be government taxes. Everything else is consumption.
    • No, bro, it's simply not true that no one talks about Simran. Where did you hear that? Swingdon? The entire Sikh world talks about doing Simran, whether it's Maskeen ji, Giani Pinderpal Singh, Giani Kulwant Singh Jawaddi, or Sants. So what are you talking about? Agreed. Agreed. Well, if every bani were exactly the same, then why would Guru ji even write anything after writing Japji Sahib? We should all enjoy all the banis. No, Gurbani tells you to do Simran, but it's not just "the manual". Gurbani itself also has cleansing powers. I'm not saying not to do Simran. Do it. But Gurbani is not merely "the manual". Reading and singing Gurbani is spiritually helpful: ਪ੍ਰਭ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਬਦੁ ਸੁਭਾਖਿਆ ॥  ਗਾਵਹੁ ਸੁਣਹੁ ਪੜਹੁ ਨਿਤ ਭਾਈ ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੈ ਤੂ ਰਾਖਿਆ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ The Lord's Bani and the words are the best utterances. Ever sing hear and recite them, O brother and the Perfect Guru shall save thee. Pause. p611 Here Guru ji shows the importance of both Bani and Naam: ਆਇਓ ਸੁਨਨ ਪੜਨ ਕਉ ਬਾਣੀ ॥ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿ ਲਗਹਿ ਅਨ ਲਾਲਚਿ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਪਰਾਣੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ The mortal has come to hear and utter Bani. Forgetting the Name thou attached thyself to other desires. Vain is thy life, O mortal. Pause. p1219 Are there any house manuals that say to read and sing the house manual?
