Waheguru ji ka Khalsa!!!!

Waheguru ji ki Fateh!!!!

Saadh sangat ji,

main aap ji de sahmne apna ik sawaal rakh reha haan.

Main eh janna chahnda haan ke Karaah Parshaad di sikh dharam vich ki mahatata hai??? te har jagah te Karaah Parshaad as basic Parshaad kyun vartaaya janda hai?? ate hor kujh as Parshaad kyon nahi vartaya janda.

My question is as to what is the significance of "Karaah Parshaad" in Sikhism???

i.e. Why "Karaah Parshaad" is served as the BASIC Parshaad n anything else is an add on....???

its heavy because if your hungry, that quenches your hunger,

so no real excuse why you cant concentrate on simran and sewa. when the kirpan is not made to cut the prashad, it remains as karah, but the reason why we have the kirpaan to cut it is because kirpaan is a symbol of shaakti, so by eating karah prashaad, you will get shaakti.

however, by having a whole load of karah prashaad shoved down ones gob does not have any real benefits, karah prashad di true shakti can be seen if a little bit is eaten.

im not sure but was karah prahshad served back in the gurus days also?

if thats the case, it could well explain why we normally have karah prahshaad.

yh also.. ive read that the name PRASHAAD has come from the Word: Gur PRASAAD (dont confuse the 2!!), as in Guru Ji's blessings. And you will only get this blessing through Kara Prashaad IF you eat only a little, not big massive chunks..

But a manmukh that i am.. when i was young, I used to love the taste of Prashaad and would ask for more n more blush.gif

ahhh thank you bhenji, i was running after where we got the name prashad from, but of course my bad enlgih played up and everyone thought i was asking a different question.

so exactly, after a year, i get my answer to where we got the name "prahshad from"

thank you so much!!!

But a manmukh that i am.. when i was young, I used to love the taste of Prashaad and would ask for more n more

seeing my grandad knew all the babi at the gurdwara, they would slop 2 handfuls.

and even at akhand paaths, there would normally be two people giving out karah prashad (i remember this in india, when i was like 5), i went to my mums side where the man gave me a huge chunk of prahshaad nd then id go to the mens side and someone would slop this huge mountain size of karah prashaad.

what i have been told is, if one is supposed to do sewa, one should never eat karah prashaad or consume langar (or if its a must, always have a little bit), something to do with your adding debt to your head or something like that, or removing your own debt (by doing sewa) and then adding someone elses by eating the langar.

im just curious if theres any sakhis to back that up?

lol, i prefer not to even take in prahshad nowadays, you say kinka or swaiye, the sewadars just look at you and give prahshad in the shape of a soccer ball!

maybe its just our local gurdwara that does that? grin.gif

Khalsa Ji

Karah parshad.

When Guru Nanak Dev ji was asked, what is it that a infnat, toddler, teenager, young person, middle age, old age, person can eat. That is where Guru Nanak Dev ji answered with the Karah Parshad that gets served in Gurudwaras.

I think in old times it was known as some other name or i think DEGH.

as we say "DEGH TEGH FATEH"

I will research more and read some more books.

Remeber i have book old from 1900 and some are hand written more older than 1900 but are copies of original.

    • I agree we're not born with sin like the Christians think. Also I agree we have effects of karma. But Gurbani does state that the body contains both sin and charity (goodness): ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪਾਪੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਦੁਇ ਭਾਈ ॥ Within the body are the two brothers sin and virtue. p126 Actually, we do need to be saved. Gurbani calls this "udhaar" (uplift). Without Satguru, souls are liable to spiritual death: ਜਿਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਸੇ ਭਾਗਹੀਣ ਵਸਿ ਕਾਲ ॥ p40 Those who have not met Satguru Purakh are unfortunate and liable to death. So, yeah, we do need to be saved, and Guru ji does the saving. The reason Satguru is the one to save is because God has given Satguru the "key" (kunji): ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹਥਿ ਕੁੰਜੀ ਹੋਰਤੁ ਦਰੁ ਖੁਲੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥ In the True Guru's hand is the key. None else can open the door. By perfect good fortune the Guru is met. p124
    • That's unfortunate to hear. Could you give any more information? Who was this "baba"? He just disappeared with people's money? Obviously, you should donate your money to known institutions or poor people that you can verify the need of through friends and family in Punjab.
    • Sangat ji,  I know a family who went Sevewal to do seva sometimes end of 2019. They returned last year in great dismay and heart broken.  To repent for their mistakes they approached panj pyaare. The Panj gave them their punishment / order to how t make it up which, with Kirpa, they fulfilled.  They were listening to a fake Baba who, in the end, took all the "Donations " and fled sometime over a year ago. For nearly 4 years this family (who are great Gursikhs once u get to know them) wasted time and effort for this fake Baba. NOT ONLY this one fam. But many, many did worldwide and they took their fam to do seva, in village Sevewal, city Jaitho in Punjab. In the end many families lost money in thousands being behind this Baba. The family, on return, had to get in touch with all the participants and told them to stop.  I am stating this here to create awareness and we need to learn from whom we follow and believe. It's no easy but if we follow the 3 S (Sangat, Simran and Seva) we will be shown the light. As I am writing this the family in question have been doing the same since 2008 onwards and they fell for this Baba... it is unbelievable and shocking.  This am writing in a nutshell as am at work on my break so not lengthy but it deserves a great length.  Especially the family in question, who shed light on youngsters about Sikhi 20 plus years!!
    • Giani Kulwant Singh Jawaddi Kalan uses simple Punjabi.
    • Leaving aside Guru ji, the general question of taking afeem (opium) in limited quantities for war/medical wounds is simply unproblematic. When you go to the hospital, they give you morphine. What do you think morphine is? It's an opiate. Even codeine (cough syrup) is an opiate! Ever had a cough? Granted, it is against Gurmat to take opium or other drugs for the fun of it.
