Film criticised for slogans

A new film 'Rang De Basanti' is one of many that uses religious references to help commercialisation. The main title and song is according to its singer Harshdeep, taken from "an extract of Japji Sahib, the Sikh's morning prayer... It is believed that early morning is the time of God and I actually felt God standing next to me and making me sing," tells Harshdeep.

Religious groups believe a line was crossed when an objectionable slogan was placed on the posters of the movie. Both the SGPC and Jathedar of the Sri Damdama Sahib Nandgarh reacted strongly to it.

While the posters show Aamir Khan on a horseback, the other side has the lead actors of the movie embracing each other. However, the sikh organisation have taken exception to what is written in Hindi and Punjabi (in bold letters) at the lower side of the poster - "Raj Karega Khalsa."

SGPC media secretary G.S. Bedi and Jathedaar of the Sri Damdama Sahib Nandgarh (Talwandi), Balwant Singh have called it a matter of great concern and called for a ban on 'Rang De Basanti' as it amounts to an insult of the sikh community .
