Wjkk wjkf, I personally don’t think these ‘small’ things matter, in the end. When you go to gurdwara, you should be concenrtrating on gurbani, on the guru’s shabad, not on if its okay to wear socks. It’s the love that matter jeeo!

its seena baseena rehit, that when you do paath you take of your socks. and theres no way you can do chaur sahib di sewa or keertan sewa or a sewa like that with your socks on. Its one of the first things you learn from elder learned Gursikhs.

when you come to the gurdwara, take of your shoes and your socks. wash your hands your face and your feet (panj ishnaana) , than go in darbar sahib. thats the way its done.

further...socks tend to get dirty... ialso agree it doesn't matter, but on occasions, it DOES matter.

you do seva with your feet, by walking around... if you're wearing socks and doing seva, your socks get dirty..... then you take those dirty socks and they go all over the floors (which are usually covered by sheets...hence dirtyying the sheets)

the difference with not wearing socks is that you can wash your feet with soap...but once your socks are dirty, you can't jus toss em in a washing machine, and throw em back on in a matter of seconds.

this is why it matters.

in the old school days, or even in current day india, socks are prohibited for this reason. There's so much dust in the air that if you're sweeping the floors, or you're doing anything, really, your socks are going to pick up dust that's lying on the floor. This is also why gurdwaray in India have "foot sinks" right before entrance, so that you can wash your feet before entering, thus getting them as clean as possible.

It's only common sense...just to keep guruji's darbar clean.
