Veerjee 'gupt lion', i feel that this is more of an opinion question. Unless there are quotes from gurbani stating its wrong to touch meat and or alcohol.

If YOU feel that there is nothing wrong with it and your heart tells YOU its okay than thats good. But If YOU feel that there is something wrong with it, than dont do it.

But like you have seen here based on all the answers from the sangath everyone has their OWN views on it and its not one largely based answer regarding a quote from gurbani.

So in the end if there is no quote from Gurbani, do what YOU feel is right. :|

Not doubting what you said, just wondering: When did Guru Teg Bahadur say that?

Sometime during his life

hahaha I sound smart @$$ huh?

I dont know the exact time. Ill have to research for that answer grin.gif

I read that bedtime story to my daughter sometimes. Guru Gobind Singhs horse would stop in his tracks if he saw tobacco plants. Even his horse knew not to go near it also.post-5391-1151681435.jpg

Even I have heard that Neela (guru gobind singh ji's horse) would not go near a tabacco farm. I've worked in a gas station selling it, but at that time i was not into sikhi. If someone asks me to do it now... I'll rather do something else. Especially for amritdharis who are reflection of guruji (khalsa), should know to stay away from these things.....

To "kurtas":

I think it's more like if you don't think it's a good thing, why would you want to be associated with it.

Or am I wrong? Then could somebody explain why you guys think it's wrong to just place it on shelves, etc, if it's packed? I don't get it wacko.gif

How far do you want to go then ? Do you pull out of your final salary pension scheme because you know money will be invested in firms that profit from anti Gurmat activities ?

Do you put your money under the mattress as banks lend to firms that profit from anti Gurmat activities ?

Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Vaheguru Ji Ki Fateh

Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji Mahraaj Ji's own horse not to go into a tobacco field, so surely we can show some constraint? Parj ji, if your trying to become a Sikh of the Guru then you will have to avoid working with meat and alchohol.

Another sakhi, Bhai Joga Singh, was a Sikh during the time of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji Mahraaj, he left during the middle of his laavan, of his Anand Karaj, because Guru ji sent for him...if Bhai Joga Singh Ji could make that sort of sacrifice, surely we can make a smaller sacrifice of not working in such an environment where we might be called upon to handle such things as meat and alcohol?

But aside from that...do an ardaas to Guru Ji and your answer will be revealed in a magic cloud! jus kidding about the cloud! but Guru Ji will point you in the right direction!

Bhul Chuk Maaf Karna Jeeo, thada sab tho shotaa veer....

Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Vaheguru Ji Ki Fateh

p.s. Daas would love to see, and without doubt Vaheguru Ji would love to see, every post start and end with a full Fateh! Imagine how many times you will read the word Vaheguru while u browse the site!

Waheguru Ji ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji ki FATEH!

I used to on other sites at every post put Gurfateh but nobody else did so I thought nobody else was an Amritdhari, so if you are an A.Dhari from now on use the proper greeting etc. I will

Its easy all you do is type it the first time, copy it and on all your posts just paste it at the end also.

Waheguru Ji ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji ki FATEH!

Whats wrong with putting packs of meat on display ? The meat is not exactly going to jump up and drop in your mouth.

It is wrong to drink alcohol but I have not seen many people in ASDA etc drinking whilst they work.

So just get the job and do good honest work. No one will force you to eat and drink what the place sells.

Restraint.

Food companies make advertisements which you see on TV, most people (let's just say weak-willed or unconcentrating people) will get hungry simply looking at the advertisements. That's the way they get you to buy their products.

If watching something makes you want it, what happens when you touch it? If you touch meat or alcohol you become accustomed to it, someday you'll think "eh, it's not too bad if i even take a sip of this, its not like i'm gonna get drunk, juts a little buzz". There's absolultely nothing wrong with touching meat or alochol, its just that most people wont be able to resist afterwards. Guru jee knew this, so he told us to lay our hands off it, and if we needed even more restraint to not even go near the stuff.

Your senses are a gateway, you touch/smell/hear/see and y ou're gonna wanna taste too eventually.

Do you invest your money in a Las Vegas Casino? Do you invest your money in the bleeping Mafia? No. How is that going too far?

Or do you mean investing money in a gas station that sells meat? Cuz that is a good question that i'd have to think about.

Personally I dont think you should touch the meat or the alcohol, and dont worry about not getting a job. There are LOADS out there, and no offense but a lot of those jobs are more interesting too ohmy.gif

PIYARI SADH SANGAT JI WHAT IS YOUR VIEW ON WORKING WITH MEAT AND ALCHOL LIKE IN SUPERMARKETS LIKE ASDA ETC..??

1) Meat is not an issue for Sikhs...its a personal choice to eat it or not (whether you are amritdhri oe not)...see

http://www.sikhsangat.com/index.php?showtopic=18748

2) My cousin is a strict vegetarian and works in a meat factory.

3) Alcohol is being handled and not consumed....so what is the problem? Alcohol can be used medicinally.......but not as an intoxicant in Sikhism. Many medicines contain alcohol.

4) Stop using caps....it looks like u are shouting.

5) I love that picture you have there. :TH:

1) We could argue that until our deaths...

2) ... ... ... so what? Who in the world is your cousin? What makes whatever he/she does so perfectly right? lol

3) I get what you mean, but I want to point out that medicines contain a minimum of alcohol--you would like die before you got drunk of that crap...

4) I agree

5) Again, I agree :| flipping awesome.
