Kara

If we analyse the above Shabad properly, we realise Guru ji is NOT against wearing Gold/Silver/Good clothes. Guru Ji were against the ATTACHMENT to them. Keeping this in mind, re-read the 1st line.

Please let us not fall into the trap of undermining Gurbani by literal meanings - It just makes the Ocean of Gurbani look shallow!

the PLEASURE of all this is false. However, its not WRONG to be rich. Remember Guru Gobind Singh ji was rich! When asked by someone "how can you be a true saint you've got so many riches, a wife and children" and Guru ji smiled and replied:

"Daulat Gujraan

Aurat Imaan

Bache Nishaan"

Wealth is just to survive on.. if it leaves you then you shouldn't worry! ACHINT RAHO.

And on the issue of the Gold Kara.. In my opinion Sarabloh Kara helps you health wise. Plus, as well as having spiritual significance, the Kakaars also have siginificance in battlefield. The Kara protects your wrist.

Gold is easily malleable. So Gold sheilds are pretty much useless in battle, becuase they would just get bent with one strike. Sarabloh - Unrefined Steel (Not iron by the way) - is not malleable and can withstand hard blows.

Incase someone says "oh we dont need the kara now for protection" I've personally been saved quite a few times from sustaining an injury to my wrist during Sashter Vidia because of my Kara.

this one katha vaachak once said that if you look at history, our guru's lived like kings. they had a lot of money n wore expensive cloths. so its ok to wear them. but the problem with us is that we wear expensive stuff to show off which boosts our ego.

as guru ji's sipahi said, the idea is not to get attached to them. if you think you can stay detached from this kind of stuff then go ahead and wear it. but be beware, only a puran gursikh will remain detached and thats exactly why gursikhs dont feel the need to wear jewelry of any kind.
