Kabīr jih dar āvat jāthiahu hatkai nāhī koė.

Kabeer, that door, through which people never stop coming and going -

So dar kaisė chodīai jo dar aisā hoė.

how can I leave such a door as that?

We have probably all been through millions of life-forms before taking up our place here on Earth. The vast majority of people in this play of Maharaj's don't realise that there's anything more to life except being born/having a good time/raising a family/retiring/dieing etc. We continue through the door of transmigration, travelling through many different forms we can't even remember. The sheer number of souls involved and the scale of this concept should make it clear to us a) that it takes willpower to break the mould and b) how lucky we are to have the steps needed to do so laid out for us through Gurbani/Naam.

Perhaps it is excusable for those who are ignorant of this knowledge, or who have not been in a Godly-ish atmosphere in life at all. For those people, how will they ever know better? But for others like us who know that Gurbani tells us the path of the Truth, can there ever really be a legitimate reason to ignore it? Deep down we probably all know this yet still we think it's okay to leave Sikhi for another day. Day after day it can get left, but why shouldn't we make it our top priority? We still think that there's no need to be too 'religious', but a Gursikh's life (and possibly death) should be dedicated to Akaal Purakh - every breath, every step, every action. Instead of picking and choosing the bits of the Truth which suit us, we must try to learn to integrate that Truth into every second of our lives.

The reference to the door in this Salok could either mean the above (door by which everyone gets reborn/dies) or it could refer to Guru Sahib's refuge. The door where we could be at peace, immersed in nothing but His light. Imagine such a door - why would anyone want to leave that place? So maybe Bhagat Ji could be saying that he never wants to leave Guru Ji's charan, although personally I think the birth/death theory makes more sense.

Kabīr dūbā thā pai ubrio gun kī lahar jhabak.

Kabeer, I was drowning, but the waves of virtue saved me in an instant.

Jab dėkhio bėrhā jarjarā tab uthar pario hao farak.

When I saw that my boat was rotten, then I immediately got out.

ਡੂਬਾ = drown; ਉਬਰਿਓ = leaving, dying; ਗੁਨ = virtue; ਲਹਰਿ ਝਬਕਿ = surge of the waves; ਦੇਖਿਓ = see; ਬੇੜਾ = raft; ਜਰਜਰਾ = rotten, flimsy etc; ਉਤਰਿ = out; ਪਰਿਓ = realisation; ਫਰਕਿ = difference.

So how to break free of the bondage which ties up so many? By using the magic waves which Guru Saheb blesses us with. An ocean is fathomless, full of mysteries and wonders. The colourful marine life is mesmerising, distracting and can entrance enthusiasts for hours on end. In other parts there is complete darkness, with only very weird creatures living there (some of whom use neon lights in their body, which is cool) but the point is that the world we are in like now is full to the brim of distractions and lovely things which we mistake to be the truth. Every day we discover more and more, just like the scientists who send down little robot thingies everyday to take pictures of the fish no human diver can find.

We can lose ourselves in here, and many of us do so constantly. But Guru Sahib is here as our guide, our Captain, our lifeboat and our safety net. In this case we are the creatures who do need rescuing from the sea. Only by using Guru Ji's knowledge can we be free of the things which torment us every day - the worries, the regrets, bad memories of the past, the anxiety of whether Iceland is going to melt tomorrow. If we had a bit of faith in the entity so much bigger than us, then we might be blessed enough to realise that ultimately nothing can really go wrong as the Puppet-Master is Supreme. He can see in the past/present/future and beyond, we are plankton in the greater scheme of things. Bhagat Ji says that only Guru Sahib can really save us, no matter how much we rely on other humans or pleasures to take our mind off our issues.

Sooooo we should all ask our beautiful King to help us in trying to realise this goal, so that we maybe can catch a glimpse of Him when the time is right. The vessels which carry us are in desperate need of cleansing and repairing, but only when we truly realise the extent of the crisis will the prayers really go out to Maharaj in full faith. There is a better boat out there people.

Yeh so do a few others. Shows you what I know.

Just goes to show that English translations can be misleading.

Like it usually says at the end, I'm stupid.

(Today it doesn't say that because admin seem to have done something with the 'i'm stupid' smiley so that it comes up as the confused one. Talikhaak - something for you to fix.)

Yeah its the english translation in this case ... Prof. Sahib Singh has a diff. meaning for ਹਟਕੈ ਨਾਹੀ = no one stops you, koi rokda nahi.

Deep down we probably all know this yet still we think it's okay to leave Sikhi for another day. Day after day it can get left, but why shouldn't we make it our top priority?

even knowing the truth, we still run to falsehood:

Kabeer, the mortal knows everything, and knowing, he still makes mistakes.

We still think that there's no need to be too 'religious', but a Gursikh's life (and possibly death) should be dedicated to Akaal Purakh - every breath, every step, every action.

definitely death should be dedicated to Akaal Purakh! Maharaj ji says:

BUT

we can't just leave it to the last breath. doing simran at the last breath will only come if its already ingrained into our swaas.

the anxiety of whether Iceland is going to melt tomorrow.

i've heard that Iceland is really grass, whoever discovered it didnt want others to invade so he named it Iceland.. and Greenland is really ice... tongue.gif

hmm.. i see i have just demonstrated the kinds of thoughts you are talking about above. :imstupid:

Iceland is a meeting-place of the forces of nature which conjure up contrasts with a variety and ingenuity that almost defy belief. Active volcanoes and boiling geothermal springs coexist side by side with glaciers, and dramatic eruptions even burst forth from beneath the surface of Europe's largest ice cap. Today, Icelanders have harnessed the natural warmth of the Earth's water to heat their homes and the outdoor swimming pools that are used all year round.
