Im totally confused after reading these 2 articles because it seems like the point they are trying to get across is that education is a waste of time as this time could be used to jap naam but isn't it all about balance??

Guru Nanak taught his way of life:

Nam Japa - To get up each day before sunrise, to clean the body, meditate on God’s Name and recite the Guru’s hymns to clean the mind. Throughout the day, continuously remember God’s Name with every breath.

Dharam di Kirat Karni - To work and earn by the sweat of the brow, to live a family way of life, and practice truthfulness and honesty in all dealings.

Vand Ke Chakna - To share the fruits of one’s labor with others before considering oneself. Thus, to live as an inspiration and a support to the entire community.

as sikhs we are learners... i'm sure our Guru's would be very proud of us if we were very well educated people... i'm sure our Guru's would want us to be as educated as possible..

the 3 things taught by Guru Nanak Dev Jee (kirat karna, vand shakna, naam japna) are the 3 main things for ur spirituality... yes.. life is all about balance... which includes work, school, famliy, friends, etc...

Phen jee,

What the 2 gursikhs have said in their blog is true.

Also you have to take note,

IN our time, in order to do KIRT DE KAMEE, we need to get ourselves educated to get a proper job with a safe income. These are a MUST DO duties of a Gursikh.

but some waste their life earning 3-4 degrees, 2 master..and so on.

Do only what is IMPOTANT and Necessary to earn a living, and don' over do it which will cause us to get detached from Naam.

A gursikh only does 2 thing in their life:

1.Prema BHagti, Naam Abhiyaas.

2.When a Gursikh is not doing as above, then he'she is doing their compulsory duties as GRISTHI Jeewan.

A gursikh only involves himself in the 2 things above, and doesn't waste time on mundane an unimportant activities.

as sikhs we are learners... i'm sure our Guru's would be very proud of us if we were very well educated people... i'm sure our Guru's would want us to be as educated as possible..

Guru Sahib is proud of us when we butcher our haumei and do abhiyass 24/7.

People should never forget that Guru Gobind Singh Ji was highly educated. He was provided with the best education of the time.

So how is Sikhi against education?

Dhan Dhan Sahib Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji Maharaaj created the philosophy of Miri and Piri (temporal and spiritual respectively). The above article just focuses on the Piri side of Sikhi.

Guru Ji taught us to live lives as a householder. Be a worldy person but.. as Sahib Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji puts it: "Man he Maahe Udasa" - Be an udasi but IN UR MIND. No point in running away to forests/running away from normal life to do "tap" etc - That's exactly what Dhan Dhan Sahib Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji Aap Nirankaar Saroop Maharaaj told the Yogis NOT to do.

How can Education take you away from Naam? The Shabad that Bhai Sahib used from Asa Di //:

http://www.sikhitothemax.com/page.asp?ShabadID=1711 does NOT talk against Education - Rather it said that just reading about stuff won't get you mukti you have to ACT upon it and follow the Nirmal Panth (pure path).

If Education was such a taboo in Sikhi, why would Kalgidhar Pita Sahib-e-Kamaal Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji send out Singhs to learn vidya??? "Inhi Ke Parsaad So Bidiya Layee.."

Bhagat Prahlaad was sent to school to learn and he replied that he only wants to learn about Akaal Purakh - What does that tell you? That tells me that he was like that from day 1. ie: He had this Bakhshish from Akaal Purakh Sahib Ji from the Day Go.

We try to copy Bhagats/Sants in many ways, but we never end up being the same as them - We turn out to be a not-so-good version of them.. We don't have that inner goodness that they had.

Eg: Some Gursikhs have so much Pyaar for their Kakaars that they would not eat if one of them is missing (like on the plane) but people try copying that and say "ur not meant to eat when your kakaars are off" see the difference?

Baba Nand Singh Ji and other Sant Mahapurashs from the Nanaksar Jathebandi didn't have Lobh+Moh for money - Nanaksari's try to follow that by not putting a golak infront of Guru Granth Sahib ji - but instead some take money behind people's backs.

Bhai Sahib Bhai Randheer Singh ji and some other Mahapurashs, when doing Naam Simran lose control of their bodies and move around in "mast". However, people of the jatha try to copy that by moving during Naam Simran thinking its the way to go..

It's not all good just trying to copy Gursikhs - it's about getting to their avastha and then all the outward things (such as not finding taste in any songs/music except for keertan) will come naturally.

    • Umm, that's totally irrational, bro. There are plenty of prakash-dara Singhs in Punjab (less than we'd like, but still plenty). No one cares that you are sabat soorat. It isn't 1986. You can walk around in chola, kurta-pajama, or jeans. Whatever. If you want the look @dallysingh101 is referring to, just go into a cheap clothing shop (not a Western-style mall) and buy some shirts for 250 rupees or a track suit for 2000 rupees. You'll get the cheap stuff made in some sweatshop in Bombay.
    • The Mind is Jyot Saroop (Waheguru), but the mind is under the influence of five evils… Through Naam Simran( Rememberance), the mind will begin to detach from evil, and get back to its original form ( MANN TU JYOT SAROOP HEH)… Until the mind breaks free from the five evils, one will go through the cycle of paap and punn….which leads to Karma… Naam Simran destroys past karma, and prevents new karma coming into fruition… I did this, I did that… This non realisation of the Jyot Saroop gives rise to paap and Punn, which in turn gives birth to suffering and misery…
    • I agree we're not born with sin like the Christians think. Also I agree we have effects of karma. But Gurbani does state that the body contains both sin and charity (goodness): ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪਾਪੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਦੁਇ ਭਾਈ ॥ Within the body are the two brothers sin and virtue. p126 Actually, we do need to be saved. Gurbani calls this "udhaar" (uplift). Without Satguru, souls are liable to spiritual death: ਜਿਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਸੇ ਭਾਗਹੀਣ ਵਸਿ ਕਾਲ ॥ p40 Those who have not met Satguru Purakh are unfortunate and liable to death. So, yeah, we do need to be saved, and Guru ji does the saving. The reason Satguru is the one to save is because God has given Satguru the "key" (kunji): ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹਥਿ ਕੁੰਜੀ ਹੋਰਤੁ ਦਰੁ ਖੁਲੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥ In the True Guru's hand is the key. None else can open the door. By perfect good fortune the Guru is met. p124
    • That's unfortunate to hear. Could you give any more information? Who was this "baba"? He just disappeared with people's money? Obviously, you should donate your money to known institutions or poor people that you can verify the need of through friends and family in Punjab.
    • Sangat ji,  I know a family who went Sevewal to do seva sometimes end of 2019. They returned last year in great dismay and heart broken.  To repent for their mistakes they approached panj pyaare. The Panj gave them their punishment / order to how t make it up which, with Kirpa, they fulfilled.  They were listening to a fake Baba who, in the end, took all the "Donations " and fled sometime over a year ago. For nearly 4 years this family (who are great Gursikhs once u get to know them) wasted time and effort for this fake Baba. NOT ONLY this one fam. But many, many did worldwide and they took their fam to do seva, in village Sevewal, city Jaitho in Punjab. In the end many families lost money in thousands being behind this Baba. The family, on return, had to get in touch with all the participants and told them to stop.  I am stating this here to create awareness and we need to learn from whom we follow and believe. It's no easy but if we follow the 3 S (Sangat, Simran and Seva) we will be shown the light. As I am writing this the family in question have been doing the same since 2008 onwards and they fell for this Baba... it is unbelievable and shocking.  This am writing in a nutshell as am at work on my break so not lengthy but it deserves a great length.  Especially the family in question, who shed light on youngsters about Sikhi 20 plus years!!
