vaheguru ji ka khalsa vaheguru ji ki fateh

I don't have much time, so this'll be a short one.

The swans are like Gurmukhs/Guru Saheb's saints. They live in this world, (the little pool of salty water) but they don't get entranced by the Maya which is in it (the salt). The swans don't drink the saltwater, the Gurmukhs don't roll in the dirt of the world. They don't get their satisfaction from the temporary pleasures which so many of us rely on for so-called happiness.

Have a look at the next one considering the above (65) and see if that one makes sense.

that makes sense, thankyou

ive read the next 2 tuks and they also seem to make more sense

just a couple more questions...how do you know what represents what?? the swan, water, salt etc

also, danjh means thirst right? does that mean that the gurmukhs have a thirst for maya, but refrain from getting entangled in it?

how do you know what represents what??

Because I looked it up :) .

I think understanding Gurbani takes a mixture of things. Using Guru Saheb's blessings, determination, learning from others (including Steeks etc), discussing with others. All this helps you to get a feel for Gurbani and the metaphors and things which the individual Gurus/Bhagats etc use.

If you're like me, you'll just look it up somewhere. There is no self-knowledge.

I don't think Gurmukhs would have a thirst for Maya. The phrase 'testing the waters' comes to mind. They're on a continuous hunt for their Guru. From afar how do the swans know that the water is salty? It's only when they reach the pool that they realise and leave.

Vaheguroo Jee Ka Khalsaa! Vaheguroo Jee Ki Fatheh!

2 pence worth:

In the first tukk Guru Jee says burnt crop simply cannot blossom, no matter how much they are watered. Applying this imagery to the second tukk, we can say that:

Crop = Soul-bride/manukh

Burning = Mayaa/thoughts which take us away from Guru Jee

Bloom/Blossom = Spiritual progression

Water = Guru Jee/Naam/Gurbani/Sangat

So even whilst on the path of Guru Jee, we are still afflicted with pain and remain separated, simply because of our burning in mayaa, and not being able to detach our minds from it. Regardless of how much we place ourselves in water, we will not be able to blossom and merge with Vaheguroo. By claiming to follow the path of the Guru, and still remaining attached to mayaa, we are just contradicting ourselves, and are the root cause of the pain and separation we suffer.

The solution to this is simple:

ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਸਭੁ ਸਉਪਿ ਗੁਰ ਕਉ ਹੁਕਮਿ ਮੰਨਿਐ ਪਾਈਐ

Surrender body, mind, wealth, and everything to the Guru; obey the Order of His Will, and you will find Him.

Simple solution, but ever so hard to follow and implement. It will only happen with effort from our own behalf and Guru Jee's Grace.

Bhul chukh maafi.

Vaheguroo Jee Ka Khalsaa! Vaheguroo Jee Ki Fatheh!
