Revival of terrorism in Punjab

Monday, November 5, 2007 (Ludhiana)

The recent blast in Ludhiana raised fears of the revival of fringe elements from the days of terrorism in Punjab.

Here is a report that reveals that these fears are not entirely unfounded with terrorist outfits revitalizing their funding as well as sources of arms, ammunitions and explosives.

The capabilities of the existing terrorist modules and their supply lines have left the security agencies stunned.

The Khalistan dream is being fanned again in offices in Ludhiana.

Till two years ago Daljit Singh Bittu was in jail. A hardcore terrorist in the late 80s he was implicated in 22 TADA cases. Now out on bail he runs a group promoting Khalistan.

''Sikhs have given vent to their aspirations the name of Khalistan. So that's a beautiful name that denotes the ideals of Khalsa,'' said Daljit Singh Bittu, former terrorist.

Bittu's base is now Ludhiana, a city rocked by an explosion in mid October and the police suspect Khalistani groups were behind it.

All over the state a disturbing trend has emerged in the last two years.

There have been six blasts in Delhi, Chandigarh, Jalandhar and Ludhiana connected to the pro-Khalistan movement.

Pro-Khalistan MMSs are being circulated in colleges in Punjab. More than ten anti-India magazines are being published.

Anniversaries of major terrorist acts, once marked only in jails, are now being celebrated at public events and framed posters of Bhindranwale are making a reappearance in drawing rooms.

Not just a sustained public campaign, the more worrying fact lies in police files interrogation reports of the terrorists arrested during the last couple of years reveal that the terrorist outfits have revitalized their supply lines of money as well as arms, ammunitions and explosives.

The capabilities of the existing terrorist modules and their supply lines have left the security agencies stunned.

Jagtar Singh Hawara the India Chief of the Babbar Khalsa International escaped from Chandigarh jail with two other terrorists in January 2004 but was arrested by the Delhi police 15 months later.

In those months, according to the police interrogation report Hawara was supplied a huge cache of arms and ammunition, including 35 kilograms of RDX and four AK-47 rifles. He also received Rs 21 lakh through Hawala channels.

Dump arms and explosives

More than 100 sympathisers gave him shelter and helped him dump arms and explosives at various hideouts in Punjab.

He is said to have sheltered those behind the blasts in two cinema halls in Delhi and one in Punjab. He raised three active terrorist modules, including two human bombs.

Police say these are ominous signs.

''We have to be very alive to it. We just can't shut our eyes and say it's not there. This has to be monitored and has to be kept under surveillance and the action has to reach in fact to dig out these operative cells,'' said Dinesh Bhatt, SSP Operations, Chandigarh.

The Quick Reaction Team, an elite force of the Chandigrah police is now tackling terrorist activities fuelled and funded by groups abroad.

The Dixie Gurudwara in Canada has been a hub of pro-Khalistan elements for over a decade now.

The support often translating into monetary help for terrorists.

So the whole of Punjab was taken aback when Amarinder Singh on an official visit as Chief Minister in 2005 chose to address a gathering at this gurudwara.

''The whole world knew that terrorists get shelter in that gurdwara and it's being run by terrorists. When Amarinder was delivering his speech there, the slogan Khalistan zindabad was visible in the backdrop. The slogan essentially meant Punjab should be separated from India,'' said M S Bitta, Chairman, All India Anti Terrorist Front.

Up till now there's little to indicate that these groups have much popular support.

And all pro-Khalistani candidates were trounced in last years assembly elections.

Unlike twenty years ago, today the Centre has weakened gurudwaras and the present generation is simply tired of the uncertainties and disruptions of terrorism.

--------------------------

Again, Ridiculous claims, unproven, no evidence, no credability made to fool the illiterate Indian Hindu patriotic masses into thinking Sikhs are terrorists.

Numerous, credible ex-government officials have previously exposed how the indian government has attacked its own people to justify a further clampdown on civil rights for Sikhs and to justify additional arrests and torture of prominent members of the Sikh community. With State run media and puppets like KPS Gill to back them, the blame is passed on to so called "Sikh insurgents".

After decades of police brutality, in recent months Punjabi sikhs have challanged government funded Dera's and slogans such as "khalistan Zindabad" have been heard in Punjab. Fearing that Sikhs may use this as a platform to demand Human & Religious Rights, the Government is now trying to tarnish the Sikh image once again.

I am sure more will follow, and the blame will be passed on to Groups like Babbar Khalsa promptly without any evidence.

The real terrorist is the Indian Government!

revival of sikh nationalism is terrorism to these people.

any sense of sikh nationalism is a threat to these people, thus showing the awkward relationship of the sikhs with India. we can't express our aspirations without being attacked.

can you imagine M.K. gandhi launching a freedom movement in this type of country. even though gandhi launched a non-violent movement, i bet my life that this indian governemnt would have tortured and killed gandhi and would have killed his whole family as well.

in other words, these people are worse than the British. worse than the Mughals even.

peace.

the problem is that a person who is amritdhari, and maybe is known to carry a gun and fights in favor of his or her dharam is classified as a "terriosts" by indian gov. Then outside countries also see them as terriost, obviously if the country you live in calls you a terriost, then other country are bound to do the same. Sikhs still dont get their rights, even after attack on temple, people still see that hindu and sikhs are equal. people just live their lifes as nothing is wrong. and the ones that fight like true khalsa are known as terriost. The police work for money and dont care about doing duty as true police officers, and dont even think about whats right, they only care about themselves.

PUNJAB IS GETTING USED BY INDIAN GOV!!!!!!!!. THATS OBVIOUS. WHY DOESNT INDIA JUST GIVE PUNJAB ITS KHALISTAN, AND THEN MAYBE THEY DONT HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT "TERRIOST"??

OUR PUNJABI LEADERS IN PUNJAB ARE RUINING THE WHOLE STORY. IF THEY FOUGHT IN FAVOR OF KHALISTAN, THEN MAYBE WE WOULD HAVE A CHANCE. AND ESPEICALLY IF OUR SIKH YOUTH WOULD ACUTALLY START KEEPING KESH, READING BANI AND TAKE AMRIT, AND BE WILLING TO SEE WHAT BEING KHALSA IS ALL ABOUT, THEN MAYBE WE WOULD BE GETTING SOMEWHERE!!!!

People all across punjab see Sant ji as a terriosts......Times are only going to get harder. We all need to prepare ourselfes. Listen to katha, read bani, and take amrit.......Our time will come.....lets be ready for it.........
