We are not getting offended, just pointin out the fact that people rather ignore this facts and try to fit in wit society. Then stand up for themselves and others and i am not defendin these ppl, Guru made us stand out and told us to defend others and not stand down.

It's everywhere. I was standing there, doing seva at a public function, giving out pamphlets and explaining the history and general principles of Sikhi, and this cop came up. I asked him what the official position was on sri sahib, and this guy, a Lt., had never even heard of it, let alone knew that all amritdhari are supposed to have them. So he starts buggin', and the guy I'm standing there with goes, "Oh, it isn't sharp, it isn't sharp!"

Excuse me? It should be.

Yeah, it's just everywhere. People are in this "go along to get along" mode, trying to make us more palatable. Sorry if I look a little scary, but that doesn't translate into a right to oppress me, much less that I should be any less a Sikh and back down every time somebody doesn't know what I am or supposes that I'm something that I'm not.

We need to educate non-Sikhs, but at the same time we need to remember what is expected of us by Guruji. Acting like wimps ain't it.

Sangat Ji. Don't you think its about time that we stop crying foul, and start defending ourselves. I mean everywhere you look you see a story about a Sikh getting assaulted, or beaten. Even in Punjab, in every fight against the DSS followers, the Sikhs got their butts whooped. Even in England, there no longer a Shere Punjab. Now the Muslims usually just beat on the Sikhs without any retaliation. Our Guru's taught us not to start any attack, but also not to back down. I am ashamed at some of the stories I see. Only place where Sikhs hold any sort of respect for being tough is probably in Vancouver, but most of those guys are drug dealers. What is going on here. We were once people had enough nerve to fight 125,000 vs. 1. We use to defend the Hindus who did not have enough courage to fight against the moguls. Now I think we need to ask for some help. I may be wrong here, but most of the tough Sikhs I see now don't wear turbans. Most of them wear earring and have tattoos. Don't think I am one of those, this is from my personal experience.

Our gurus taught us something else before picking up the sword. And that is to read bani. First we must me sants and then worry about sipahi. You cant just defend sikhy without having it inside of you. Thats wy the word sant comes before sipahi. Its because one is a sant which makes him a sipahi. everybody wants to kick some <admin-profanity filter activated>, but nobody wants to sit down and atually read bani. And those "tough sikhs" you speak of that have no turbans are not sikh buddy. Anybody can eat meat and lift some weights and get big, but that does not make them tough. Just because you got big muscles dont mean anything. We wanna be tough, well there is a way, and that way is bani, our answer to every problem we face in life. Sikh without bani is not a sikh but just some ordaniary person. And let me say that sikh koum is not your ordinary koum. We have to change our jeevans first before we change anything else.

Somewhere along the line the fighters where eclipsed by the cowards in our society. They are ones who pull out every excuse to avoid confrontations and deflect the martial side of Sikhism by going on about the spiritual side and avoiding the other bit completely........they are like hippies

when times comes to be the lion, yea you be the lion, but let me tell you. lions dont go around the jungles and attacking prey just becasue their lions.

its the spiritual side which gave birth to the martial side buddy.

Sorry if I look a little scary

You don't and neither does any other Singh/Singhnee or any other human being, for that matter, on this planet. We are all the Lord's children and the Lord doesn't make mistakes and has given each of us a unique look. We should be proud of it and keep our heads held up high even if the face of adversity no matter how tough it might be at times.

No one is disputing that. But if you can't see that the "Singh" reputation for physical bravery and prowess is diminishing you must be blind. You talk about attacking prey (which lions do actually do - watch a documentary) but I'm talking about "Singhs" who wont/can't fight.

There was a reason why the martial side was introduced dude, it was because spirituality on its own can lead to cowardice. You need both to be a Singh.
