Operation Bluestar

Brig fears for life, stays away from court

Brigadier Rao did not turn up in the court today on the plea that he felt threat to his life as certain unidentified persons had clicked his pictures in the court premises yesterday. S.S.Sood, lawyer for the complainants, said Brigadier Rao in his application had added that for the next hearing he would come with security from Hyderabad.

Meanwhile, one of the plaintiffs, Jasbir Singh Ghuman, also filed a complaint in the court, accusing Brigadier Rao of stealing files relating to the case and taking them to his lawyer’s chamber. The complaint also accuses him of perjury. The court has given Brigadier Rao notice for February 18, said Sood.

Amritsar, January 11

Brig D.V.Rao (retd), who executed Operation Bluestar in 1984, came on record here yesterday that three tanks had entered the Golden Temple complex, from the entrance near the Langar Hall.

During cross-examination in the court of Harjit Singh Khalsa Civil Judge-cum-Judicial Magistrate (First Class), Brigadier Rao said the tanks entered around 5:15 am and the operation lasted till 6 am. This was in continuation of his earlier statement that heavy arms and ammunition, including hand grenades, were used in the Army operation and the local administration and the SGPC were not consulted before executing the operation.

The Brigadier was also quizzed on why the Army “effectively” fired at the sangat inside the Golden Temple complex without prior warning as devotees holding kirtan could not be blamed for illegal assembly.

Asked why this was done in contravention of the Army rules, Brigadier Rao said he was not in total command of the operation. He said he was only following the directions of his seniors, who gave directions about every move the Army made.

Brigadier Rao told the court that he was in constant touch with his three seniors on his radio set, Gen K.S.Brar, Gen K.Sunderji and Gen R.S.Dyal, who were closely monitoring the activity his troops during the course of the operation on June 5 and the actual operation started at 10 pm.

In June 1984, Brigadier Rao was posted commander, 350 Infantry Brigade in Jalandhar, which was part of the Ninth Infantry Division. He was roped in to assist the civil authorities to flush out terrorists from the Golden Temple complex and recover illegal arms and ammunition. He said though he was aware that there were serais in the complex, he did not have a complete picture about the presence of a number of small gurdwaras within the complex.

In an affidavit earlier submitted to the court, Brigadier Rao had said special instructions were given to the troops that no weapons should be fired at Sri Harmandar Sahib and heavy machine guns should not be carried inside.

The suit has been filed by some Jodhpur detainees, who were taken into custody after the operation, against the Union of India and others for compensation.

mahaan bharat diyaan mahaan kartootaan.

slowly the truth starts leaking out about the massacre, called, Operation Bluestar.

when all is said and done, it may go down in history as one of the most brutal and violent attacks by a nation's armed forces on it's own citizens. and that is why after that day, we realized we are not citizens of that country. if we were considered human even, such an atrocity would never have been committed. like animals, innocent sikh men, women, and children were gunned down, blown to pieces, flesh lying on the parikarma, dead children floating in the sarovar, people drinking water mixed with blood and urine to survive.

when the truth comes out, the once proud martial quam will rise again and finish what the delhi sarkar started. when the history books will be written, they will say the sikhs were beaten, then rose to rule a kingdom. just as they did many times over throughout their blood soaked history.

peace.

it doesn't matter if we are alive to see that day. Sardar Kartar Singh Sarabha did not live to see the British leave India nor did bhagat singh.

the countless sikh women who were imprisoned by mir mannu did not get to see sikh sovereignty reign over the land of five rivers, nor did the mothers who had garlands of their dead children around their necks.

Martin Luther King did not live to see the civil rights movement succeed and triumph.

it's not about us seeing that day. it's about us believing in that day.

peace.

Well said Mann.

There's strength in numbers - I believe if we get the dalits and other downtrodden sections to convert to sikhi and free child laborers and stree children - give them education and invite them to sikhi fold, have3 children per couple rather than 2 and adopt one non sikh child, our numbers will rise .

Once we get to around 100 million from today's 20 million, azaadi will become very realistic.

Second factor would be to have well educated, dedicated leaders at helm and not the uncouth sgpc asses that we have today.

Khalsa raj will come - its not a matter of if but when !

    • I agree we're not born with sin like the Christians think. Also I agree we have effects of karma. But Gurbani does state that the body contains both sin and charity (goodness): ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪਾਪੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਦੁਇ ਭਾਈ ॥ Within the body are the two brothers sin and virtue. p126 Actually, we do need to be saved. Gurbani calls this "udhaar" (uplift). Without Satguru, souls are liable to spiritual death: ਜਿਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਸੇ ਭਾਗਹੀਣ ਵਸਿ ਕਾਲ ॥ p40 Those who have not met Satguru Purakh are unfortunate and liable to death. So, yeah, we do need to be saved, and Guru ji does the saving. The reason Satguru is the one to save is because God has given Satguru the "key" (kunji): ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹਥਿ ਕੁੰਜੀ ਹੋਰਤੁ ਦਰੁ ਖੁਲੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥ In the True Guru's hand is the key. None else can open the door. By perfect good fortune the Guru is met. p124
    • That's unfortunate to hear. Could you give any more information? Who was this "baba"? He just disappeared with people's money? Obviously, you should donate your money to known institutions or poor people that you can verify the need of through friends and family in Punjab.
    • Sangat ji,  I know a family who went Sevewal to do seva sometimes end of 2019. They returned last year in great dismay and heart broken.  To repent for their mistakes they approached panj pyaare. The Panj gave them their punishment / order to how t make it up which, with Kirpa, they fulfilled.  They were listening to a fake Baba who, in the end, took all the "Donations " and fled sometime over a year ago. For nearly 4 years this family (who are great Gursikhs once u get to know them) wasted time and effort for this fake Baba. NOT ONLY this one fam. But many, many did worldwide and they took their fam to do seva, in village Sevewal, city Jaitho in Punjab. In the end many families lost money in thousands being behind this Baba. The family, on return, had to get in touch with all the participants and told them to stop.  I am stating this here to create awareness and we need to learn from whom we follow and believe. It's no easy but if we follow the 3 S (Sangat, Simran and Seva) we will be shown the light. As I am writing this the family in question have been doing the same since 2008 onwards and they fell for this Baba... it is unbelievable and shocking.  This am writing in a nutshell as am at work on my break so not lengthy but it deserves a great length.  Especially the family in question, who shed light on youngsters about Sikhi 20 plus years!!
    • Giani Kulwant Singh Jawaddi Kalan uses simple Punjabi.
    • Leaving aside Guru ji, the general question of taking afeem (opium) in limited quantities for war/medical wounds is simply unproblematic. When you go to the hospital, they give you morphine. What do you think morphine is? It's an opiate. Even codeine (cough syrup) is an opiate! Ever had a cough? Granted, it is against Gurmat to take opium or other drugs for the fun of it.
