it eradicates the three qualities, and attunes the consciousness to the fourth state.

O Nanak, subduing egotism, one is absorbed into God. ||8||4||

The second time it appears is again reproduced below:

sbid mnu rMigAw ilv lwie ] (233-1, gauVI, mÚ 3)

The mind is attuned to the Word of the Shabad; it is lovingly attuned to the Lord.

inj Gir visAw pRB kI rjwie ]1] (233-1, gauVI, mÚ 3)

It abides within its own home, in harmony with the Lord's Will. ||1||

The third Time it appears is as follows:

ris pRyim imlI jIau sbid suhwvY ] (243-4, gauVI, mÚ 1)

Tasting His Love, she meets Him, through the Beautiful Word of His Shabad.

sbdy suhwvY qw piq pwvY dIpk dyh aujwrY ] (243-5, gauVI, mÚ 1)

Adorned with the Shabad, she obtains her Husband, and her body is illuminated with the lamp of spiritual wisdom.

I shall be garteful if you can kindly explain the meaning of the colored lines.Esp.

1.Poore satgur 'sabad' sunaya. What is this 'sabad'? Is it the sabad of sabad Keertan as is employed for the praise of lord or does it mean something else.These kinds of lines appear at many places and being new I cannot make out the meaning.

2. What are the tri-gunas and how these are removed?

3.What is the meaning Of 'Mind is attuned to the 'word of sabad'. [as per the second set of lines]The translator has used 'word Of sabad'.

4. What is the 'Fourth state'

It should have been 'sabad' in normal course.

Kindly explain ? I shall be very grateful.

For this reason, anything done under these three gunns keeps us in this world and brings us back to this world through reincarnation. The only way to get out of this cycle is if we do what is beyond these 3 gunns. Only Naam Abhyaas and Gurbani Paath are beyond these three gunns.

As for examples of each gunn, here is what I can think of:

Tamo – Under this gunn, a person does all the bad things like atrocities, cruelties, murders, rapes etc.

Rajo – Under this Gunn, a person has aspirations for worldly gains. A person working to become a CFO of a company or manager of a firm is driven by Rajo Gunn. Such people are not bad people but they have aspirations for worldly gains. They are house-holders who want to attain materialistic things. They don’t commit atrocities, cruelties, murders etc. as a person under Tamo gunn does. It is possible for a person living under Rajo Gunn to transform into one living under Tamo Gunn. Some times to attain their material goals, the Rajo people start doing unethical and immoral acts and gradually this leads them to become Tamo people.

Sato – Under this gunn, people do good deeds and don’t have too many materialistic aspirations. They do charity work, feed the poor, help the needy, perform religious rituals like pilgrimages and other such good deeds. Most of the acts of the world religions fall under this gunn. Gurmat Matt or Dharam is the only one that offers its followers something above the Sato Gunn.

A gursikh follows some aspects of Sato Gunn e.g. helping the needy, feeding the poor etc. but it does not condone empty religious Sato rituals that don’t help in Naam Abhyaas. Same way Gurmat also preaches some Rajo Gunns (qualities) e.g. earning decent living, try to establish the righteous kingdom in this world etc.

A gursikh may follow some Tamo gunn too e.g. employing some martial skills in the battle for Dharma. But again, these actions may only seem like Tamo but the intent behind doing such actions like fighting in the battlefield are not driven by Tamo Gunn. A Gursikh always stays in the Chautha Padd i.e. the state above these 3 gunns.

It seems that Guru Saheb when Guru Saheb refers to katha/Shabad it means Gurbani. I don't think it matters whether the Gurbani is being sung as kirtan or recited as Paath or just contemplated on. They are the divine words of Akaal Purakh Himself and can only ever have a positive effect on you.

The other questions you have about the Triguns and fourth state have already been answered above and in your other topics.
