"Sat Sri Akaal" is taken from the Jangee Naraa (War Cry). Sat Sri Akaal is not a greeting between Sikhs. Remembering the Khalsa, it's creator (Vaheguru) and remaining in high spirits is what the Fatheh was given for and why it is the necessary greeting. Most people changed it to "Sat Sri Akaal" because they did not want to take Amrit and hence the world "Khalsa" did not feel appropriate for them. Ask any older person why the Fatheh has faded. It is simply because people drifted away from the basic Rehat of taking Amrit.

Anyone can say Fateh to anyone else. The reason for saying the Fateh was so that it brought you into high spirits and reminded you of Vaheguru and the Khalsa. If you are not Amritdharee it should also ring a few bells!! And no, it is not just for men. Singh is used in the Rehatnama to represent a Sikh of the Guru.

Sat siri akaal is part of puratan mangal charan, its totally unbeleivable sikhs are against their own mangal charan and discriminate two vahiguroojikkhalsavahiguroojikifateh with sat siri akaal and vice versa.. in case you wish to know sat siri akaal may be war cry but has very deep meaning behind it sat(truth) siri(sargun-shud maya vich) akaal(nirgun). Its different if its trend among people to say sat siri akaal without knowning the meaning but that doesnot devalue the meaning of such pavitar word- sat siri akaal.

its extremely saddening to know there are sikhs who can even think that by saying sat siri akaal instead of vahiguroojikakhalsavahiguroojikifateh it implies there are people who don't want to take amrit or you are away rehat of taking amrit.

The fact is many sant mahapursh go in moment of bliss when they say sat siri akaal and vahiguroojikakhalsavahiguroojikifateh is proof you cannot discriminate between mangal charan- both mangal charan does upma of sargun and nirgun cannot be compared with each other, they are both unique in their own ways...!

anyways, wen we receive amrit what do we say everytime it is given to us by each of the panj piayre, VAHIGURU JI KA KHALSA, VAHIGURU JI KI FATEH. this is the first thing we said once we received amrit, everytime we greet a khalsa, we say fateh. its very powerful.

Whenever i say fateh to older people who arent amritdhari they never say fateh back, they say 'sat sri akal' so i dunno.

I think fateh is how we should greet each other, but i guess its minor.
