Another ultra held in Barnala

KZF, IKF, PPG plotted to revive militancy

JAMMU, June 5: Khalistan Zindabad Force (KZF), Neeta group, ‘Iknoor Khalsa Fauj’ and ‘Panj Pardhani Group’ had jointly hatched a plot to revive militancy in Punjab and Jammu for which they were strengthening their cadre in the two States.

A number of more arrests and recoveries were on the cards in Jammu and Punjab following sustained joint interrogation of three militants from Barnala district in Punjab by Jammu and Punjab Police teams at Safe House in Trikuta Nagar. The trio were arrested by police from Kanachak in an Indica car when they were returning to Barnala after taking an arms consignment from a Neeta group’s border smuggler along Chenab river in Akhnoor sector yesterday.

Makhan Singh, a close associate of Malkeet Singh, who was ring leader of three captured militants, was arrested from Barnala late last night after his name surfaced during interrogation of the ultras. Makhan was arrested by Barnala police from a hide-out where he had escaped after getting information about the arrest of his associates.

Houses and offices of other cadre of ‘Panj Pardhani Group’ and ‘Iknoor Khalsa Fauj’ were also raided by Barnala police but all of them had gone into hiding.

"Police of both States were investigating the case vigorously. Punjab Police teams have reached here. Police from the two States were sharing whatever information was available with them in the case. Hopefully, network of the militants will be smashed", IGP Jammu K Rajendra, who was monitoring investigations, told the Excelsior.

According to official sources, ‘Iknoor Khalsa Fauj’ and ‘Panj Pardhani Group’ had been floated by former militants of Punjab few months back after a row had erupted between supporters and opponents of Baba Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh. Besides Ram Rahim Singh, the two groups had also kept Pyara Singh Baniyarawale as their main target.

The two groups had sought the support of KZF supremo Ranjeet Singh Neeta, a resident of Jammu presently operating from Pakistan, to supply them arms and ammunition besides activate his erstwhile cadre in the two States.

Sources said Neeta had agreed to supply consignment of arms to the Punjab based groups with the condition that in addition to striking at their targets the groups will also revive militancy in Jammu and Punjab.

According to them, a border smuggler, who had provided the consignment of arms and ammunition to the three militants along Chenab river in Akhnoor sector, was also part of Neeta group and was absconding. Neeta had promised more consignments of arms to the two groups.

Newly formed groups had also established contacts with some former militants, who had agreed to help them, sources said. They added that all three arrested militants were very hardcore and they frequently keep on changing their statements apparently in a bid to give their cadre enough time to escape.

Sources confirmed that some youths have also gone underground in Jammu as they too were in touch with the newly formed groups and feared that captured ultras might disclose their identity. More arrests and recoveries were on cards in the two States, they said.

They added that Punjab Police has also taken the bid to revive militancy very seriously and that is why 15 senior police officers from Ludhiana and Barnala have been camping here for interrogation of arrested militants. Barnala police team is headed by SP (Headquarters) Barnala, Mr Parmar.

Police today secured remand of all three militants upto Saturday and will seek extension of their remand after Saturday. There is no proposal to hand over militants to Punjab Police but the latter are welcome to interrogate them here as long as they want, sources said.

Makhan Singh is being quizzed in Barnala. He could be brought here for cross questioning along with his three associates, they added.

As reported today, Malkeet Singh, Surjeet Singh and Harbans Singh, all residents of Barnala, Punjab were arrested by police and Army from Malpur Dumi at Kanachak late Tuesday night when they were returning to Barnala after taking consignment of arms and ammunition from the border smuggler of Neeta group.
