2 us, prasahd is kirpa, blessed by guru ji himself. its a reminder of bani 2 us (sum1 sed 2 me), that if u think about it, prashad is sweet, jus like bani is. its a metaphor basically. 2 a gursikh bani is sweet, but 2 moorakhs like me n u, hu hav no idea about bani prashad is there 2 say b a gursikh n this is wot bani will b like 2 u, sweet.

y muslims dont hav prashad, they prob think it wud distract them frm prayin cuz there sole purpose is 2 pray, but y they dont hav reminders like us. dunno.

bhole chukke muaff if i hav offended ny1.

he told that "we go to mosque ...with ibaadat..to pray and remember Allah...nothing else...y shld there be food serving?"

Guru Nanak dev ji started the practise of Parsad, Its symobolises that every one is equal and should be served the same way, wether in Guru's house or outside.

It also symbolises simplicity of food, that we should eat simple, live simple , dress simple and Remember waheguru always.

Parsad also makes our stomach stop rumbling in the gurdwara blush.gif and distracting us from what we are there for, to be with the Guru and learn from SGGS.

Also i agree with Kandola veer that the naam ras gets into the parsad thats why any food prepared in the Gurudwara tastes better than home cooked meal.

Another reason for parsad is that it symbolises sharing.

Typical muslim answer! rolleyes.gif

Ask em this, when they goto the mosque how do they learn to pray, who's their teacher, or are they lead with no spiritual direction? IF they say the QURAN, then who wrote the Quran, NOT THEIR PROPHET! So how can they possibly learn from something 'someone' wrote, and do 'ibabat' from that, what if they have questions, do they ask their elders, who've also studied from this 'someone'? lol, to me its

just misleading.

Guru Granth Sahib ji maharaj, is a revealed, directed word of our Gurus, who give us guidance, strength, motivation, and spiritual direction. The atmosphere at the Gurdwara is being active, and focusing/concentrating your mind to your Guru, to sewa, sangat. Whereas sitting there, one cannot control his/her thoughts, sure its the same thing where you praise Vaheguroo, but no ordinary "book" won't lead you to HIM. Only the word of the Guru will.

Now, to the karah parshad, as I said above, you must be active, in serving along with praying, which bring into control your thoughts, once you can control your thoughts, by focusing your attention on your Guru or murshad, you will learn more, and you will get higher on the spiritual ladder. Parshad is a blessing, you take something home with you, its food for the hungry, food for thought, and food for the soul, what good is going to a mosque where you can't take home anything, and leave empty handed?

Bhul chuk muaf! ^_^

the previous answer was right on the dot.

personally speaking parshad feels like a physical fulfillment to help me have the sugar and strength for my brain to work and digest what i learned in the gurdwara

you can't really do bhagtee on an empty stomach unless you are a brahmgyani

so langar / parshad helps you this way too but i think the ABOVE post was best

    • I agree we're not born with sin like the Christians think. Also I agree we have effects of karma. But Gurbani does state that the body contains both sin and charity (goodness): ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪਾਪੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਦੁਇ ਭਾਈ ॥ Within the body are the two brothers sin and virtue. p126 Actually, we do need to be saved. Gurbani calls this "udhaar" (uplift). Without Satguru, souls are liable to spiritual death: ਜਿਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਸੇ ਭਾਗਹੀਣ ਵਸਿ ਕਾਲ ॥ p40 Those who have not met Satguru Purakh are unfortunate and liable to death. So, yeah, we do need to be saved, and Guru ji does the saving. The reason Satguru is the one to save is because God has given Satguru the "key" (kunji): ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹਥਿ ਕੁੰਜੀ ਹੋਰਤੁ ਦਰੁ ਖੁਲੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥ In the True Guru's hand is the key. None else can open the door. By perfect good fortune the Guru is met. p124
    • That's unfortunate to hear. Could you give any more information? Who was this "baba"? He just disappeared with people's money? Obviously, you should donate your money to known institutions or poor people that you can verify the need of through friends and family in Punjab.
    • Sangat ji,  I know a family who went Sevewal to do seva sometimes end of 2019. They returned last year in great dismay and heart broken.  To repent for their mistakes they approached panj pyaare. The Panj gave them their punishment / order to how t make it up which, with Kirpa, they fulfilled.  They were listening to a fake Baba who, in the end, took all the "Donations " and fled sometime over a year ago. For nearly 4 years this family (who are great Gursikhs once u get to know them) wasted time and effort for this fake Baba. NOT ONLY this one fam. But many, many did worldwide and they took their fam to do seva, in village Sevewal, city Jaitho in Punjab. In the end many families lost money in thousands being behind this Baba. The family, on return, had to get in touch with all the participants and told them to stop.  I am stating this here to create awareness and we need to learn from whom we follow and believe. It's no easy but if we follow the 3 S (Sangat, Simran and Seva) we will be shown the light. As I am writing this the family in question have been doing the same since 2008 onwards and they fell for this Baba... it is unbelievable and shocking.  This am writing in a nutshell as am at work on my break so not lengthy but it deserves a great length.  Especially the family in question, who shed light on youngsters about Sikhi 20 plus years!!
    • Giani Kulwant Singh Jawaddi Kalan uses simple Punjabi.
    • Leaving aside Guru ji, the general question of taking afeem (opium) in limited quantities for war/medical wounds is simply unproblematic. When you go to the hospital, they give you morphine. What do you think morphine is? It's an opiate. Even codeine (cough syrup) is an opiate! Ever had a cough? Granted, it is against Gurmat to take opium or other drugs for the fun of it.
