When reffering to yoga - is that literally mean yoga or does it mean yoga in the spritual sense (Japping Naam)

Please do a search on Patanjali who lived some 2000 odd years ago, and taught a way of meditative living.

His philosophies make up the 6 schools of thought that are described in the Kirtan Sohila,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yoga_Sutras_of_Patanjali

They refer to Raj Yoga, that is the Raj over ones mind.

These forms of Yoga are actually about Penance of the Mind.

For example: "Yama refers to the five abstentions."

The works of Patanjali have been revived in the west with New Age ideologies such as those made famous by Wayne Dyer and others.

It does include meditation,

"The focus is on the mind; the second sutra defines Yoga - it is the cessation of all mental fluctuations, all wandering thoughts cease and the mind is focused on a single thought"

"In contrast to the focus on the mind in the Yoga sutras, later traditions of Yoga such as the Hatha yoga focus on more complex asanas or body postures."

So in essence, Patanjali, as described by Bhai Gurdaas, had original teachings that people had modified over time and thus he describes how people should:

"The jiv should cultivate the nature of rememberance of God, charity and ablution (internal and external)."
