Akaaall!!

what do you think about a photo competition for sikhs? like all shots to do with sikhi.........doesn't even have to be anything specific to sikhi.......but it should have some connotation to sikhism! the closing date im thinking is 1st may, so all hola mohalla shots and vaisakhi shots will be added, and the people that add shots to the pool will be in charge of judging and deciding who is the winner (1st, 2nd, 3rd prizes).......as well as me =D

what do you think?

btw this is gna be on flickr so if u haven't got an account........join it =p

i'm thinking maybe maximum 5 photos allowed to be added to the group......but i don't know about prizes =s

3rd prize

Rules for this month's competition:

All photographs must be related to Vaisakhi, or the month of Vaisakh (including the variety of different occasions within this month).

From Wikipedia - Vaisakh is a second month in the Nanakshahi calendar. This month coincides with April and May in the Gregorian calendar and is when the crop is harvested in Punjab. Vaisakhi is the most important festival in the Sikh calendar and it takes place on the first lunar month of Vaisakh, which falls on April 14 each year. On this day the Khalsa was created and much celebration takes place worldwide in the form of Samagams, Nagar Kirtan, Gatka exhibitions, Akand Paths, and so on.

Also during this month, the second son of Guru Gobind Singh, Sahibzada Jujhar Singh was born on 9 April 1691. On the 18th, the Sikhs celebrate the birthday of Guru Angad Dev, the second Sikh Guru and Guru Tegh Bahadur the ninth Sikh Guru.

On the 16th of this month, Guru Angad and Guru Har Krishan took leave for their higher abode and passed the Guruship to Guru Amar Das and Guru Tegh Bahadur respectively.

April

April 14 (1 Vaisakh) - Vaisakhi

April 16 (3 Vaisakh) - Joti Jot of Guru Angad Dev

April 16 (3 Vaisakh) - Gur Gadi of Guru Amar Das Ji

April 16 (3 Vaisakh) - Joti Jot Guru Har Krishan Ji

April 16 (3 Vaisakh) - Gur Gadi of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji

April 18 (5 Vaisakh) - Birth of Guru Angad Dev Ji

April 18 (5 Vaisakh) - Birth of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji

and thats the only rule lol!!

the main reason for starting this competition was to get more people attending functions, such as kirtan darbars, workshops, nagar kirtans etc. so start finding out when the different events are taking place.......even post a date up in this discussion thread, so we can all attend!

please tell everyone about this competition and get everyone involved!

The Sikh Photography Competition – update

A wonderful suggestion from teraroop11 penji, for all photos submitted for The Sikh Photography Competition to be posted in a small/medium size in the discussions section according to which month's competition they belong to. It will help us organise each of the competitions, and it will be clear which pictures were submitted for which month.

Also add the photographs to the group pool aswell, as the threads will be deleted at the end of each monthly competition to prevent further posts.

All photographs have to be entered by 11.59pm on the last day of each month, so we can judge them and give out prizes!

Enjoy =D

Wjkk Wjkf!

Loving the pictures so far everyone - you're all so talented!

The topic for this month is: .... "Sikh's at work"

This can be any sort of work; an actual job, school, or even engaging in a passionate hobby

Be imaginative, we have so many skills among us, I'm sure we can show the many creative sides as well as our participation in the secular world - we can't hide well after all =)

Enjoy!
