and i think another singh posted a thread about this too. i think it was azaad bhaji's thread.

the jhar sahib incident was with the granthi doing akand path and watching movie on cell phone......right???

2 different events, 2 different guru ghars......?????

This is indeed very alarming. There was a thread in the gupt section about some granthi singh apparently having porn links on his laptop, then the news about a granthi singh watching porn while 'doing' path and now this. Judging from what is coming out in the public, it seems like granthi singhs are taking sangat for a ride. Fair enough, we all suffer from vikaars, but it is totally unacceptable when it is about our conduct when we are in front of Guruji. Granthi singhs are supposed to be Guruji's voice, how can they do that? Don't they fear anything? I do feel some sort of panthic level action has to be taken against this issue. SGPC is useless, otherwise I was going to say they could form some sort of 'task force' who would go randomly to different Guru Ghars and check the conduct and characters of granthi singhs there (in a non-offensive way of course). Maybe this is slightly off-topic but many a times we see granthi singhs mumbling away throughout akhand path sahibs, which is so annoying personally speaking. I mean you sit in front of our Guruji, hoping to listen to the wise words He has to say, but all you hear is a bee humming in the microphone. Do they not realise they cease to be 'granthi singhs' when doing path - they become voice of the Guruji! Sorry for the off-topic rant, but this, amongst the major issues said above, are really very disappointing!

The problem is that some people become Granthi Singhs because they don't finish school or can't find other jobs etc, rather than for a love of Sikhi. Some Granthis haven't even had santhiya and many aren't even Amritdhari.

Gurudwara committees should provide good wages and decent accommodation but insist on qualified Singhs (ie Santhiya, knowledge of ithihaas, katha etc) for the job rather than trying to get the cheapest labour they can find.

Stuff like this happens but its unusual that we see it in these circumstances.Back when i was in india about 2003 there was amritdhari singh and singhni having affair it was the talk of the village. Anyway the singh ended up dumping singhni whos now pregnant for her sister who he later got pregnant aswell. But the biggest shock these were amritdhari families which later try to kill each other.

Its neither shocking for me, it happens alot, but the trend is very alarming. I mean so many people caught in such a short span of time...

We should make some uni for Granthis. Without that particular certificate (which u get after showing gurbani pronounciation skills, itihas knowledge, katha etc) you won't get a job. There should be a system like this... Matheen veerji has a good point, many Granthis in Punjab are just granthis because they couldn't finish their education, and not because of some love for Sikhi...
