Shradhs And Navratras

Sat Sri Akal to all my friends here.

Well I am very much confused regarding the rituals of shradhs and navratras which are performed by majority of people belonging to hindu culture (includes sihs as well). At my home as well, my family is verty much engaged in these rituals. They stop me from doing various things during shradhs like buying something, going through any bussiness or general transaction, even stopped me to go through a minor surgery on my eye as they believe that during shradhs it may go wrong or wont provide desired results.

Further, they say there sshould not be any non vegetarian item consumed during navratras and they even held "kanjakans"... at our place...they opted for fasts for one or two days...!

My sincere question to my friends here "IS there any benefit of performing above tasks...like not consuming non-veg during navratas and free to consume after that, not purchasing anything in sgradhs or going through any medical treatment during navratras for fear of it being going wrong"...I am confused liuke anything. I used to live abroad and never used to indulge in these things. Now I am back at my place I see lot of such stuff going around me and when I say something I ve got so many people around me whom I cant authorise as they are all elders. Kindly help me and if You can provide me quotes from Gurbani...

What is the significance of Shardh's and Navratri's? Why are they done? with what purpose?

There are what I think are superstitions in my house as well. For example, my mom throws a fit if I wash my hair on Tuesday or Thursday. I'm told even animals don't put water on their heads on these two days, and if I do, it's bad for my brother

Sharaadh is against GURMAT bcoz GURBANI tells us:-

"JEEVAT PITAR NA MAANE KOU MUE SARAADH KARAHI"

Generally we people ignore our living old parents

(and leave them on destiny and helpless where as

they deserve and badly need SEVAA) but after their

death we do sharaadh which is useless for them.

KANJAKAN POOJAN IN NAVARATRAS may be a pious

ritual for our HINDU BROTHERS but SIKHISM has

no relation with it becoz pooja of any DEVI/DEVTA/

MOORTI/MARHI(grave) is prohibited in Sikhism.

"KACHHU PAHAN ME PARMESAR NAAHI"

and

"Jis Pahan ko Pati Tore so Pahan Nirjio"

and

"PAKHAAN POOJAHOU NAHI"

and

"MAHAA MAAEE KEE POOJA KAREH,

NAR TEY NAAR HOE AUTARE"

And so many such quotes can be narrated to support

your point of view.

Waheguru ji ka Khalsa Waheguru ji ki Fateh
