Why do we take medecine when we get sick?

We are ‘kaljugi jeev’ who are engrossed in the worldly responsibilities and pleasures. We even treat ‘Nitnem’ as one of the bullets on the daily ‘to do list’.

Intellectually we know the advantage of ‘Naam Simran’ but worldly ‘Maya’ is too powerful to make us believe that ‘honest living’ is enough. We live our lives ‘doing good’ for the family, friends and society in general. Unlike we save money for rainy days, we do not deposit anything in the 'account of Naam Simran' that can help us when we need it.

When we have little health problem like ‘headache’ which may be a simple symbol of something serious, or simply ‘crappy mood’ which is related to undue stress in our lives; we ignore it and take medicine and carry on with our lives.

If we do not take ‘time off’ to do naam Simran for these simple ‘dukh’ moments, why would we even bother to sit down and do naam Simran while we are completely healthy?

Well, when we are actually sick or old, we can’t do Naam Simran because by that time our body does not allow us to do so, so ultimately we rely on medicines.

Sri Guru Teg Bahadur ji says on Page 1428 of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji

hmmm this is an interesting topic. :T:

I've often wondered about taking medicines etc and whether it's right in accordance with Bani. After all Guru Ji says

"maira baed guru gobinda"

my physician is God

But then I read that Guru Har Rai Sahib jee used to have a dispensary and actually cured Dara Shikhon using medicines.

I know that that is probably to do with the power of Bani - Maharaj can cure ANYTHING! but i've come to the conclusion that taking medicines is fine, so long as Simran/path is done as well. It's a bit like praying to Guru Jee to make the medicines work!

I'm not sure if any of that actuallly make sense :T: , but just my two cents!

hmmmmm....interesting points.

so basically at this point i wanna know if Naam is the cure for our spiritual illnesses or our physical illnesses (like flu, cancer, etc) as well.

If anyone meets a gyani at a lecture/discussion or at the gurdwara or somewhere else, plz, PLZ find out bout this!

SSA at CSUS had a lecture/discussion once....I wish I had thought of this question that time!

naam gets rid of pain both ways, flu and emotional pain.

one who remembers god (naam) is never inflicted by dukh.

and even if dukh is there (which is rare) maharaj removes it instantly.

thats why the gurus wanted naam.
