Good question. I often think of things like this too. Usually when I have nothing better to do. Anyway, not the general population in punjab but the Sikh army (except the akalis) wore trousers. The reason for that has nothing to do with the 'British'. The British were in India a hundred years before they got their grubby hands on our Punjab. (don't forget...Punjab wasn't part of India then). All the while the British were in India, the Sikh Kingdom of Punjab was very much under the French sphere of influence. Indeed French was the official language of war of Sikh Punjab. The official uniforms of the Sikh armies etc were the Napoleanonic French trousers etc.

So, in conclusion, its good to have thoughts about trousers, but forget having thoughts about the British. In the Sikh Kingdom of Punjab it was all about France and the French language.

pajama has been around b4 the british. infact the english word pajamas originates from indian word pajama (according to readers digest). whilst on the subject, they prolly got the idea of boxers from kachera too!

chaddara isnt dhoti. chaddara is what babbu maan wears in the ik baba nanak si video.

going slightly offtopic, there was an incident acouple of years back when in pakistan sum pakistani guy was wearin a dhoti, and it somehow accidently fell off, and he had nuthin on underneath. some relitive of his had seen him naked from the waist down, and so some local islamic leaders got together and decided the 2 in question had to marry..... gross i know.
