ਨੀਕੀ ਕੀਰੀ ਮਹਿ ਕਲ ਰਾਖੈ ॥ ਭਸਮ ਕਰੈ ਲਸਕਰ ਕੋਟਿ ਲਾਖੈ ॥ ਜਿਸ ਕਾ ਸਾਸੁ ਨ ਕਾਢਤ ਆਪਿ ॥ ਤਾ ਕਉ ਰਾਖਤ ਦੇ ਕਰਿ ਹਾਥ ॥ ਮਾਨਸ ਜਤਨ ਕਰਤ ਬਹੁ ਭਾਤਿ ॥ ਤਿਸ ਕੇ ਕਰਤਬ ਬਿਰਥੇ ਜਾਤਿ ॥ ਮਾਰੈ ਨ ਰਾਖੈ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥ ਸਰਬ ਜੀਆ ਕਾ ਰਾਖਾ ਸੋਇ ॥ ਕਾਹੇ ਸੋਚ ਕਰਹਿ ਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ॥ ਜਪਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਅਲਖ ਵਿਡਾਣੀ ॥੫॥ (ANG-285)

He infuses His Power into the tiny ant; it can then reduce the armies of millions to ashes Those whose breath of life He Himself does not take away - He preserves them, and holds out His Hands to protect them. You may make all sorts of efforts, but these attempts are in vain. No one else can kill or preserve - He is the Protector of all beings. So why are you so anxious, O mortal? Meditate, O Nanak, on God, the invisible, the wonderful! ||5||

ਨੀਕੀ = ਨਿੱਕੀ, ਛੋਟੀ। ਕੀਰੀ = ਕੀੜੀ। ਕਲ = ਤਾਕਤ। ਭਸਮ = ਸੁਆਹ। ਕੋਟਿ = ਕਰੋੜ। ਦੇ ਕਰਿ = ਦੇ ਕੇ। ਮਾਨਸ = ਮਨੁੱਖ। ਬਹੁ ਭਾਤਿ = ਬਹੁਤ ਕਿਸਮ ਦੇ। ਕਰਤਬ = ਕੰਮ। ਬਿਰਥੇ = ਵਿਅਰਥ। ਅਵਰੁ = ਹੋਰ। ਸਰਬ = ਸਾਰੇ। ਕਾਹੇ = ਕਿਉਂ? ਕਿਸ ਲਾਭ ਹਿਤ? ਕਰਹਿ = ਤੂੰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ। ਅਲਖ = ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਬਿਆਨ ਨ ਹੋ ਸਕੇ। ਵਿਡਾਣੀ = ਅਚਰਜ।੫।

(ਜਿਸ) ਨਿੱਕੀ ਜਿਹੀ ਕੀੜੀ ਵਿਚ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ) ਤਾਕਤ ਭਰਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਉਹ ਕੀੜੀ) ਲੱਖਾਂ ਕਰੋੜਾਂ ਲਸ਼ਕਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਆਹ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦੀ ਹੈ। ਜਿਸ ਜੀਵ ਦਾ ਸ੍ਵਾਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੱਢਦਾ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਹੱਥ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ। ਮਨੁੱਖ ਕਈ ਕਿਸਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਜਤਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਪਰ ਜੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਨਾਹ ਕਰੇ ਤਾਂ) ਉਸ ਦੇ ਕੰਮ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ। (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਨਾਹ ਕੋਈ ਮਾਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ, ਨਾਹ ਰੱਖ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੇਡਾ) ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ; ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦਾ ਰਾਖਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੈ। ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ! ਤੂੰ ਕਿਉਂ ਫ਼ਿਕਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ? ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਅਲੱਖ ਤੇ ਅਚਰਜ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰ।੫।
