Gurbilas Patshai 6

Recommended Posts

You may find this interesting. I am looking for the book as we speak!

http://www.sikhrevie.../bookreview.htm

GS Kala afghana is a notorious sikh baiter. He is a middle class educated whose medium of study was Urdu.He had very

scant knowledge of Punjabi. It is believed that books in his name are written by some others. In other words his

name has been used.

It is regretted that a magazine like The sikh review is allowing its pages to be used for anti sikh propaganda.

I thought Mr. Vedanti's book was withdrawn from circulation?

The following is from Indian Express, 12 August 2003

Vedanti defends Gurbilas, Calcutta backs him

S.P. Singh

CHANDIGARH AUGUST 12

BREAKING Months-long silence in the face of severe criticism of his edited work Gurbilas Patshahi 6, Akal Takht Jathedar Joginder Singh vedanti has now strongly defended his intellectual labour, told his detractors to understand the difference between authored and edited works and said the work is the richest source material on the life and times of sixth Sikh Guru.

Vedanti’s defence comes close on the heels if the latest book of controversial cop-turned- Sikhism preacher Gurbaksh Singh Kala Afghana which castigated Vedanti for editing and propagating and allegedly anti -Sikh book.

"We took upon ourselves the difficult job of comparing and correcting the available texts with the old hand-written manuscripts--We also wrote a detailed preface and make it clear that this is a source about the many important events connected with the life of Guru-Hargobindje, like the creation of Akal Takht," Vedanti told community journal Sant Sipahi in a tape-recorded interview, transcript of which were made available to The Indian Express.

The SGPC, under is new dispensation, also seemed to be backing Vedanti tip the hills and SGPC Secretary Manjit Singh Calcutta said Gurbilas was published by him during his earlier stint at the same job and SGPC would take note of those destroying the Sikh ethos by criticizing Akal Takht.

Vedanti, who denied that Kala-Afghana was excommunicated due to any personal ani mosity, as alleged by the Canada-based author, had so far maintained scene about his own work Kala Afghana, before his ex-communication last month, was summoned repeatedly by the community’s top temporal seat but cited health and other reasons for not appearing.

"The Siks should be cautious about these people whose motive is to deprive the Sikhs of all source material published after 1718, including all the Gurbilas, Suraj Praksh, Mahima Praksh, Panth Praksh, Rahitnama etc. Which book would we the depend upon to write our history? Will we go to the government to seek our history?" Vedanti said, He said there was "no ban on Gurbilas and this will be available from the book-stalls of SGPC and elsewhere."

Calcutta, praising Vedanti’s book said, " if this book is not there, then we do not have any other book about the life and times of Guru Hargobindji. The SGPC will continue its job of bringing out further research materials."

Vedanti said except for Gurbilas, no other book has the mention of creation of Akal Takht.

" I and Bhai Amarjit Singh, who was then professor at Shaheed Sikh Missionary College Amritsar, were given the job of editing this main source book on the occasion of the sixth Guru’s 400 birth anniversary--. My job was to edit the already available book which had been published many times including thrice by the Languages Department," Vedanti said.

He said Bhai Santokh Singh had also written momentum works like Guru Partap Suraj Granth, Guru Nanak Partap etc and these were edited by Bhai Vir Singh. "Certain points which are being raised about Gurbilas also figure verbatim in Gur Partap Suraj Granth and other book of Bhai Santokh Singh edited by Bhai Vir Singh," the Akal Takht jathedar said, Vedanti made it clear that he planned to take head-on Kala Afghana supporters. "We are closely watching the activites of those collaborating with him and I assure they will be taken to jusice. No one is above the Hukamnama and no one will be allowed to cross his limits."

What does a policeman, who joined Punjab Police as a constable and rose to become a thanedar after serving all his life, know about

the significance of literature and history.

The main intention of such bigots is to discredit sikh historical resources.he does not know head and tail about the books that are written

in his name.

    • I agree we're not born with sin like the Christians think. Also I agree we have effects of karma. But Gurbani does state that the body contains both sin and charity (goodness): ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪਾਪੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਦੁਇ ਭਾਈ ॥ Within the body are the two brothers sin and virtue. p126 Actually, we do need to be saved. Gurbani calls this "udhaar" (uplift). Without Satguru, souls are liable to spiritual death: ਜਿਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਸੇ ਭਾਗਹੀਣ ਵਸਿ ਕਾਲ ॥ p40 Those who have not met Satguru Purakh are unfortunate and liable to death. So, yeah, we do need to be saved, and Guru ji does the saving. The reason Satguru is the one to save is because God has given Satguru the "key" (kunji): ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹਥਿ ਕੁੰਜੀ ਹੋਰਤੁ ਦਰੁ ਖੁਲੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥ In the True Guru's hand is the key. None else can open the door. By perfect good fortune the Guru is met. p124
    • That's unfortunate to hear. Could you give any more information? Who was this "baba"? He just disappeared with people's money? Obviously, you should donate your money to known institutions or poor people that you can verify the need of through friends and family in Punjab.
    • Sangat ji,  I know a family who went Sevewal to do seva sometimes end of 2019. They returned last year in great dismay and heart broken.  To repent for their mistakes they approached panj pyaare. The Panj gave them their punishment / order to how t make it up which, with Kirpa, they fulfilled.  They were listening to a fake Baba who, in the end, took all the "Donations " and fled sometime over a year ago. For nearly 4 years this family (who are great Gursikhs once u get to know them) wasted time and effort for this fake Baba. NOT ONLY this one fam. But many, many did worldwide and they took their fam to do seva, in village Sevewal, city Jaitho in Punjab. In the end many families lost money in thousands being behind this Baba. The family, on return, had to get in touch with all the participants and told them to stop.  I am stating this here to create awareness and we need to learn from whom we follow and believe. It's no easy but if we follow the 3 S (Sangat, Simran and Seva) we will be shown the light. As I am writing this the family in question have been doing the same since 2008 onwards and they fell for this Baba... it is unbelievable and shocking.  This am writing in a nutshell as am at work on my break so not lengthy but it deserves a great length.  Especially the family in question, who shed light on youngsters about Sikhi 20 plus years!!
    • Giani Kulwant Singh Jawaddi Kalan uses simple Punjabi.
    • Leaving aside Guru ji, the general question of taking afeem (opium) in limited quantities for war/medical wounds is simply unproblematic. When you go to the hospital, they give you morphine. What do you think morphine is? It's an opiate. Even codeine (cough syrup) is an opiate! Ever had a cough? Granted, it is against Gurmat to take opium or other drugs for the fun of it.
