perhaps sangat should start investing in farmland instead of building huge new expensive gurdwaras in the uk. We could then keep our own cows and also grow our own crops for langar. Just an idea for the future perhaps.

From my experience these sort of questions come from those who have taken Amrit recently.

This is the age of Kal Yug. It is very rare to see anything PURE in this world anymore.

That is why we have Gurbani as our weapon to protect our spirituality. It is only by increasing our daily dosage of Bani, Katha, Veechar and naam abhiaas whilst fulfilling our obligations as Gursikhs in the world that we can purify our souls. This is enhanced by watching what we eat and drink, and from whom we receive it, but we MUST STOP getting so tied up in the physical aspects of Sikhi that we lose sight of what we are really meant to be doing?

This doesn't mean that you should not scrutinise the contents of food, to ensure it doesn't contain the foods forbidden by the Panj Pyare, rather don't get so worried if you unknowingly consume something you shouldn't. If you continue down the, pardon me for saying this, the "AKJ" path then you will end up not eating anything nutritional. You have a duty to your body as well as your Spirit.

When it comes to hormones injected into cows etc then in the UK and Europe they are not allowed to do it. I saw a documentry on BBC one about this and this practice only occurs in the USA in privately run dairies.

In India they get the calfs to suckle first before removing it and milking the cow/buffalo. So did the Praatan Sikhs commit a sin?? The issue of Daya is not relevant to this post!!

We should be grateful to Waheguru for everything we have been given to eat and drink because there are people out there who don't have anything to eat.

Well said,, lets just hope that those who dont get enough food as it is, dont become Sikhs, cos they gonna get a lot less to eat.

I think it would require lots of gurdwaras working together to help purchase farming land. It will cost millions. unfortunately i feel that corruption and disunity would hinder the progress of such ventures from the very beginning. Nobody would notice if a few hundred thousand are missing from the millions saved for this. i am also concerned that current committees may feel obliged to turn the gurusfarmland into money making machines. I think drastic reform and unity in uk gurdwaras is needed before this will be possible.

However on a much smaller scale, perhaps future gurdwara projects could incoporate small allotments and shelter for cows into their design.
