Types Of Darshan

I have a question about Chitar Darshan/Tasveer Darshan. Because shouldn’t you really rely on pictures of the Gurus, as that is what they may not of looked liked? The person who created paintings and pictures of the Gurus is a man called Soba Singh, he himself said that this is just what he imagined the Gurus would look like. And shouldn’t you really be looking at the Jyot of Guru, and not there physical appearance? Didn’t Guru Gobind Singh Jee say if you call him God you will go to Hell?

Am i just getting things confused here? Can someone please guide me to what they mean by Chitar Darshan/Tasveer Darshan please :waheguru:

I totally understand the route of your question jee. I can only give u my own interpretation of it..here it goes:

For me personally,Darshan is more of a presence than visually being able to see... If u feel that presence then that can be seen as Darshan... For example sometimes at amritvela keertan at the gurdwara,ones hairs may stand on end,one may feel a breeze of wind...or something else..with regards to pictures which are ones interpretation of what someone may have looked like, when one looks at a photo or painting of guru Nanak Dev Ji, and gets a feeling like whet I mentioned above..I would say that is Darshan...it's all about ones sharda to see and meet their guru. Theres a lot more to it than what a papi like me can say but just trying to explain my understanding of it...

The whole reason for the adoption of the Charittars is so when you do have darshan your isht will adopt a form that pleases you, take a look at the lives of the bhagats namely Bhagat Dhanna and Namdev, Waheguru adopted the sargun forms that mentally and physically pleased them. You can also see examples of this through the life of Mira Bhai and many others.

I am not a gaini i am a moorakh,but still i think that watching photos of guru is like idol worship,which is against the principal of Guru Nanak Dev ji,also if you want to see darshan of Guru,have darshan of Guru Granth Sahib ji our current Guru.sorry for mistakes,waheguru ji ki fateh

That is fine i understand what you are saying about having darshan of the Guru and make that of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. I have no issue with that, however if you are to close your eyes and focus in your mind i am sure you can picture Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. This in itself is Charittar Darshan and is the same as anyone adopting a sargun forms. The Sikhs of the Gurus during the period of 1469 - 1708 all adopted the form of the Guru in their heart, When the Surti becomes stable and Brahm replaces all then all you see is the isht in the form of the Charittar that was adopted in your heart, an example of this in Sikhi is Bhai Ghanaiya Ji.

This in no way forms or follows any sort of Idol worship.

If you believe it to be Idol woship then can i please ask how you think this fits into the idol worship. (I'm not having a go, just trying to clarify on what points you define idol worship)
