Fitting In Uni/Work

I come from quite a well off area nothing special really. But I'm use to being around well educated and well spoken people. But Ive started a University course in quite a not so well off area. Im from Chigwell in essex but work and study in East london in an area called Stratford.

I dont know if its me. Or my background. But Im finding it hard to fit into my new course and workplace. Most of the people talk in a kind of slang ghetto accent and alot different to the people I'm use. I find many to be quite rude they way they talk also. And I find it hard to relate to people here. I actually feel that I dont fit in and that Im the odd one out. I wouldnt say Im ultr posh or anything like that. But I feel more comfortable in the area im in.

Is this normal or should I be able to fit into this new enviroment? Maybe I think maybe it got nothing to do with my background and that I just need to try harder??

It's about time you entered the real world! lol

Take it as an opportunity to learn a bunch of new stuff about life and people in addition to your course. Broaden your horizons - it's what university is meant to be for.

well I am trying my best. But there are times when i feel like an outsider.I mean I seem to be able and get on more with white people. Maybe because I was raised in white area. Im not with the slang and all this kinda wagwan1 stuff.

but maybe thats because im getting older. My main problem is getting on with black people. I just dont find I have anything in common with these people and then there are those asians who act like black people and become their poodles. which I dont like.
